Cushing is a game changer and x-factor plus the Texans LBs suck right now. I mean they are not very good. At least we would have had one great LB

One player does not make a team. If your team fails because of ones absence, they really weren't that good to begin with.
This game, heck the monumental collapse in December, highlights the need for a new HC and a new QB.
You can say it's on the players, but a good coach can right a sinking ship. Just no excuse for the total collapse of this team.
Will there be any changes.............I seriously doubt it. No improvement from last year, none, in fact I'd say they did more last year.

Nah man, great players make all the difference.

You think the TExans would even be here without Watt? I bet they don't even make the playoffs if Watt goes down the same time Cushing did.

I didn't make a excuse, but Cushing is a great player and you're fooling yourself if you think he doesn't make a difference.

If nothing else, it tells us we switched to a vertical offense way too late.

But with that, there is the idea too that the Patriots have been bending, bending, and playing sort of prevent against us.....they did this to us last time, too, laying off and letting us burn clock.

Trying to control the game was a better plan than letting Schaub sling it around. Schaub looks good when facing an inferior defense OR when facing a prevent defense. That's what average QBs do: Rack up stats and then the Stat Junkies say "But Schaub has like one billion yards with THIS offense!"

Mr teX
01-13-2013, 07:51 PM
It played out like i thought it would...we'd play better, but we'd need to play well over our heads to beat them and thats alot to ask from a tram with so many glaring weaknesses.

Hervoyel
01-13-2013, 07:51 PM
Well we made a good run at it at the end.

No points for digging an impossibly deep hole and then playing well when the pressure was off and the Patriots started playing prevent. Those kinds of moral victories went out when David Carr was sent packing.

It was a good season by and large. The Texans have work to do. Matt Schaub needs to go but won't for at least another year or two. The only way to mitigate the damage his worthless ass can do is to not depend on him to win anything. That means we need help on the OL badly and we need to make the defense deeper and better. We might as well get used to the idea that if we're going to win any more than we have then we'll need to be one of those low scoring defense oriented teams to do it. Then just hope to avoid the Patriots in the post-season.

One of the glaring missing links is that all elusive elite, heck excellent QB. We get Carr and Schaub. Indy's out of it for a year, but they're right back again with a kid who shows more promise in one season than we've ever seen from Schaub.
Kubiak's play calling and Schaubs inability to improvise. Yes, we've seen the very top with these two. But there won't be a change, wish there were, but it won't happen. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised in the off season.
I've wanted them gone for so long, even at the end of, what was it 2009, when the Texans won four straight meaningless games.

Anyone who defends Schaub or ever has isn't real bright ...

I have never liked Matt Sloth and at best I was lukewarm to him. But you cannot blame everything on him for tonight. Blame has to go around for tonight's performance. I blame James Casey for dropping an easy TD pass that could've changed the complexion of this game. I blame Foster for dropping another crucial pass early on the game that would've converted a 3rd down. I blame OD for letting a pass go through his hands. I blame the defense for letting Brady convert on 3rd and longs. The coaches didn't obviously prepare the team the right way because it showed tonight. Schaub sucks no doubt and it's depressing to think that we're stuck with him and Kubiak.

Offense, particularly QB are the problem.

Nope. You never played football obviously.

IMO, the defense played worse than the offense.

The defense is the reason it's not 62 points by the pats.......

Dudes....I also ACCIDENTALLY gave him positive rep.

FML. This team is rubbing off on us.

I PM'd Double Barrel and asked him if a mod could reverse or even delete my accidental positive rep.

We threw into double coverage on that one. LOL. Twice.

I've never negative-repped anyone. How does one do it?

Well.....

Too little, too late to turn on the offense. Couldn't produce early enough when it counted. I haven't read through this thread to see all that was said....and I don't plan on it tonight.

The main thing I took from this game is that Schaub has got to go. He got rattled and couldn't make the plays happen. Plus, he sack/fumbled himself. That's pretty embarrassing.

LOL defense worn out in the first quarter? That is ridiculous. They wouldn't be NFL players if that was the case. And let's be real, we didn't have a bunch of three and outs. We'd get a first down or two then fizzle. Plus...we had the ball longer than they did in TOP. Enough with the exaggerations.

Honestly I'd get rid of Schaub before Kubiak.

Either way I don't think you make changes like that. You bring in another QB and just have them compete. No reason not to.

I don't think it's PEDs. I think it's because of all the FGs he's been kicking lately has built up his leg strength.

This was pretty funny.

All i know is that when the season started i was a huge Schaub fan, but i can not stand the guy now.

As far as kubiak goes why in the hell would not run 4 wide streak to the end zone at the end ? I mean come on its win or go home so what is there to lose ?

Game changer was the Schaub int, the pats took it down the field and scored and although we semi came back it put the game to far out of reach. If schaub is our starting QB next season then we have no shot to go any further than we did this season.

great post.

if you keep giving brady chances by always going 3 and out, settling for field goals, going captain check down brady will get more chances hence more scores.

i wish more people used their brain.

Because Schaub would probably check down to the center.

Back when this happened to DeMeco, CnD said that a best case scenario for recovery is to regain about 80% of explosiveness. How that is gauged I don't know.

Points! :smiliedance:

It's the playoff's. Despite what some say, Kubiak did a good job getting his statue qb though the regular season by not having him take chances when it didn't really matter. Now when he needed to step up and have the team take some chances, he did. Only question is, Was that qb worth protecting?

I think he has to say that at this juncture. I don't know what else he could have said in the losing locker room just minutes after the season ended.

Having said that this is, after all, Kubes. The guy gets a thumbs-up after his shortcomings and I wonder if McNair's tolerance has a trickle down effect.

I don't want this to be an Astros-like situation where love rules the day. At some point business decisions need to be made.

Schaub didn't play good enough, but there needs to be more concern for the defense. Defense didn't make stops when needed. Why ILBs were covering running backs are beyond me. Why they weren't prepared for the hurry up is beyond me. Why Harris is on their best receiver is beyond me.

if we can get back to that offensive line that can dance, we'll do better.

did that strategy leave with brisiel and winston?

Just watched Inside the NFL on Showtime for the last time.

In this game we won the time of possession 31:24 to 28:36.

On the game highlights during the show, the Patriots won the TOP 5:02 to 0:00.

Yep, zero Texans offensive plays shown. That's not bias, that's deliberate humiliation.

Patriots score in one play, then with 13:05 on the clock and great field position because Manning runs the ball to the PATRIOT 37 yard line.....we furiously run time off the clock and finally score at the 5 min mark (37 yard drive)...lol at time of possession.

There is no bias here and I wish this fanbase and team would stop wanting a pat on the back for "participation" and winning the TOP. I can't wait till they have the Time of Possession Bowl. We ought to knock 'em dead.
