I work in a casino here in in calfornia. During my shift today, I was able to spy the game playing by my section (f-in' miracle the game actually showed in southern cal). After all was said and done, I had snickers and smiles all around after the Texans lost. But I stood by my team. I stood by them and knew no matter what...they were my team. I stopped by the Texans message boards on the home site and saw nothing but disgusting and hate filled speeches from some fans about how we suck and don't deserve anything and to fire half the team, etc. How can you be a fan and say such horrible things about the team you supposedly love?

We are Texans! Not on again off again cowgirls bandwaggoners. We have been through worse. Does anyone realize for the second straight season we made it to the playoffs? For the second straight season, we fought through and showed the NFL that we matter? We showed everyone that we can do it! Even if we lose to the bengals, even if from here till the end of time we lose every single game we are still Texans! This is your team, guys. If you have any love or respect for your Texans, then I urge you all to stop with the hate and stand by your men. Win or lose, stay Texans!!!

Uh you can still hate on YOUR team wanting them to get better... there's nothing wrong with that. Stupid post.

If MY team always lost and didn't make the changes to get better, I would lose respect for them. I'd still support and root for them... but I'd lose respect for them and I would hate on them on messageboards.

lmao, exactly
true fans want their teams to do what is necessary to win championships. just because you shi* rainbows and butterflies about your losing team, doesn't make you anymore of a fan than someone who hates on them and suggests reasonable actions as to how to improve them.

Back when I decided to get back into football fandom (which had previously ceased due to Bud Adams ruining it), I adopted the Texans right after their 2-14 season. It was a statement for my loyalty to Houston sports teams. I will always love my hometown and all its warts, including its unheralded sports teams. Houston fans over 30 have shared my experiences, and our reactions to our teams' performances are almost impossible to explain to outsiders. Even the current players do not quite understand the experiences of this fanbase. The players are the unfortunate recipients of a lot of baggage.

That said, today's Texans team is not the same team they were even two months ago, and especially not in September. The O-line is busted, and the QB has had a meltdown. We were finally taken to the promised land, and were ditched at the airport.

The only fanbase that can relate to ours is Cleveland's, but screw that, because Cleveland is for losers. We expect better.

I don't need all this crap. I'm at a point in my life trying to erase anger and other foul emotions (military days). And getting insults and such from them doesn't do me any good.

Maybe it's the way I was raised. Maybe it was the Corps. I am a kind of guy to always be faithful to who and what you stand for and support. Never to falter and never to sway. No matter what. It's one thing to suggest things to make your team better, but the crap I've heard tonight is putrid. It makes me sick to see people say what they do about a team they say they love. But whatever, right?

You are right, though. I'll put the original post back.

Pretty insane how "hating on" and "hater" and "hate on" have permeated our language so much that it's now used in situations like these. Like, in this post I quoted, it was just used so damn casually.

You realize that you "hating on" would supposedly mean there is no real basis for the hate, right? So if you're supposedly "hating on" them, you're admitting that there is no basis for the hate from your end, right?

God, we need to rid the world of this "haters" pandemic. One of the worst things that has happened to sports discourse in the last 10 years. Hell, any discourse.

The crazy thing about sports is that it's an event where people invest all their emotion while having zero control over it. It's set up to drive you ape$hit.

After being an Oiler fan most of my life I don't over invest in sports... EVER.

That being said, I've been grinding away with this team for awhile now. It's been extremely painful at times, but oh well, at least I'm not a Browns fan.

In the end, remember who you're cheering for. It's the team and the city, not the players. If you get invested in a player and think they won't sell you out then you're in for a bad time.

In the end this thing is a business, plain and simple.

Honestly, I had been there. During the David Carr years. I was too busy with everything else. Now...... I'm dang near 24/7 on this message board.

This is not healthy. After this season, I'm going to have to make some changes.

It's a sport. It's not like I've turned my back on my country or family. We follow sports for entertainment so I don't get all the high minded ideals about being loyal, faithful, a true fan, blah blahbblah. B. S. If I don't find the product entertaining I'll find something else or some other team. It's that simple.

meh

I'm not a sports fan, let's get that clear right off the bat. I don't watch baseball, basketball, olympics or anything else. The only reason I watch the NFL is because Houston has a team, other wise I wouldn't. That's it.

But, I am extremely loyal to the Houston team, whatever their name is. Right now, it's the Texans. I'll be a fan and watch the games through thick and thin. But don't think for a moment I won't post about how the team, coaches or whatever sucks donkey dicks. Because if they do, they do.

Doesn't mean I'm not a fan though. Because I am.

Listen kubiak we are all so proud that u were able to win the AFC south 2 seasons in a row with no manning and a rebuilding colts team that was right on your ass until the end. We are so proud

Also proud how you pulled ur starters 2 out out the last 4 games and how we can always depend on you to call a screen or draw on 3rd and long. I mean a rookie can throw a bomb on 3rd and 23 for a TD maybe because the coach trusted him to and decided to take a chance.

We had so much on the line yesterday so u waste a TO in the 2nd half to line up and kick a 53 yard FG from noodle leg who of course missed it. We are standing by the team.

I might have a brother who I think is the biggest idiot in the world but I will still stand by him and love him :).

JK about calling u kubiak btw

According to the great Sean Connery, "Winners go home and **** the prom queen." Well if that is what winners do, then losers cheese before they even buy the prom queen a drink. I think we all know which category the Texans fall into.

On one end, you have blind homerism that says no matter if the team you root for ****s bricks, you should build a house with them.

I also don't get those that never seem to be happy no matter what. God, I can't imagine what it's like to live with a person that incessantly negative.

I LOVE my country. You can ask anyone about my patriotism. I have a US flag INSIDE my house on full display. But guess what, when the President and Congress screw things up, I don't talk about golden rainbows and fairy unicorns and how we have to support the President no matter what. Screw that. I call a spade a spade.

Bottom line is I'm not going to watch them emit farts and call it cologne.
