Did anyone else hear the story the announcers were telling about JJ Watt playing volleyball twice a week to get his pass defend timing down?

I was thinking to myself "Now thats a great idea." Reminded me of Antonio Gates and his basketball career.

Also, I much prefer this nickname to "Bulls on Parade." Just putting my two cents in. What say you?

I believe JJ himself in an interview made the comment about playing volleyball at the YMCA, but later laughed it off as a joke.. I was under the impression that the whole thing was just a joke

I would prefer The SWatt Team infinitely more than Bulls On Parade. I would prefer anything to BOP but The SWatt Team is a good name on it's own. Not sure what the other 10 guys think though...lol.

Maurice Jones-Drew managed 5 yards a carry, but the Jaguars couldn’t feed him like they wanted to because they were 0-for-9 on third down and held the ball for just 16:43.

Not a misprint. Jacksonville’s time of possession was 16:43.

“They have really, really nice benches here,” Watt said of the real estate he occupied for most of the afternoon. “They have shade and they have cooling. So it was awesome that our offense could hold the ball for so long because it was relaxing over there.”

Let's see if this swat team gains any traction.

I dunno...that name doesn't say anything about the defense as a whole.

Yeah, I have never been a fan of "Bulls on Parade" as I hate the band Rage Against the Machine who came out with that song years ago y the same name. So I already didn't like the song and band and IMO, it seemed an obvious choice and therefore "un original" if you will.

I'm not too sure about the "SWatt Team" either but maybe that will grow on me. I heard JJ doesn't like to be called JJ SWatt as he feels it makes him sound one dimensional (they mentioned that on 610 yesterday so that is my source on that).

Oh, and yeah, I prefer the SWatt Team to BOP. Actually, I would prefer anything to that damn horrid nickname I won't actually spell out.

LOL.

It's getting kind of ridiculous, much like what Rockets fans/announcers are doing. Bill Worrell and Matt Bullard try to pin nicknames on every single player on the roster, and fans follow suit.

Let's not do that. :toropalm:

Interesting arT. I believe Sunday they said the texans led the league last year with 31 batted balls down in 2011. So far I think jj has 5 by himself and I think a couple more are added by the team. Not a bad start to 2012

I like the idea of S'Watt team as a JJ Watt fan club kind of deal, not not overall for this defense.

Things don't always need nicknames either. I mean how come nobody wants to nickname the offense?

I dont really like the idea of naming the entire defense, or even just the defensive line, after one player. I think we should stick with Bulls on Parade. Besides, it's cool whenever they play that song whenever the defense goes on the field at reliant.

you know he was joking; right?

I go to the Y every Tuesday and Thursday and play [volleyball], Watt joked. Im an outside setter, and thats where I get my success from on the field.

LOL I just picture in my mind JJ walking into the local Y with his duffel bag twice a week for his pickup game of volleyball and all of the intermediate school girls not wanting to play against him. Kinda like Kramer from Seinfeld doing karate against little kids.

I don't necessarily see why this is a bad thing. The Ravens defense has been brutal for years, but Ray Lewis is the unquestioned leader in that group. Even when he's not the best player.

JJ could be "that guy" for us easily

True, but even after him being the face of that defense for 10 years you don't see them being called The Rayvens or Ray Lewis and the Impenetrable 11. He is just a mainstay and a leader, and I agree that Watt could become that for us too. I like the sound of the SWATT team but I think it does put a little too much focus on one guy, and that doesn't suit a defense that has talked so much about the camaraderie and team work mentality that they have.

You know how they had that silly Mario thing whenever Mario got a sack? Well, when JJ Watt bats down a pass the stadium should play the theme from S.W.A.T. while showing the replay.

Rep+, because I was saying the same thing to my brother a few weeks ago.

Its almost karmic justice the name they ended up with is terrible. This is what the football gods do if you try to come up with a cutesy nickname every time your defense strings together two 3-and-outs.

The best nickname that this team could earn is a year followed by the team name. Example:
85 Bears
94 49ers
73 Dolphins

You get the point.

Yeah. That Dolphins defense during the early to mid 70's was the No-Name Defense. So it had a nickname. So. Not the best example, maybe.

And the counter argument is: The Steel Curtain, The Doomsday Defense, and the Purple People Eaters.

Our goal should be no nickname. When someone says "Ravens defense", I get that feeling of dread. Hopefully, if we have success this year on the national stage, the words "Texans defense" will instill some fear too.
