Sure but the Oilers are connected to Houston. It was a nice subtle attempt by them to ease the blow by using Earl's number.

I'll also pass on the jersey but I sure did love that powder blue

Good call. I guess you can tell that to all the fairy princesses entitled to wear the CIB:

That would be infantry blue on the Combat Infantryman's Badge. That "fairy princess powder blue" is the official color of the infantry.

They can serve in the military. They can wear berets. They can wear their badge in the pride parade. What they can't do is win a Super Bowl.

Broncos lost Super Bowls until they ditched the pastel then they won a couple. Tampa never went to a SB, ditched the pastel and won one. Oilers never went to a SB. Any teams still wearing pastels? Chargers I guess - never won a SB.

Oilers jerseys were classics, anyone says otherwise has no taste in my opinion. Fantastic uniforms that were very distinctive and tightly connected to Houston.

Having said that.....

I'm sorry but it doesn't work. Perhaps if the Oiler's had simply gone away instead of becoming some other team (and one in our division no less) then sure, it could have been cool. Since the Oilers became the Titans it's a no-go.

The two uniforms are both very cool I think. The only way they mix well at all is with the darker blue going into the old Oilers uniforms. Reverse it and it becomes a travesty.

Best not to forget history.........

I actually like them. Maybe because i am younger and never had strong ties to the oilers, but i think they look pretty BA. The oilers are the history of the city of Houston. No shame in that.

If the Texans were to going to go "throwback", the helmet they actually never wore would be an idea.

Confession time: I have never, ever liked the Columbia Blue. I was a kid when Earl was truckin' folks and used to try to emulate him when I played football. I loved the team. I lived and died with those LYB teams. Never gave up on them even in the days of Ed Biles and Hugh Campbell (though I did love the Gamblers). But I never, ever liked that color. Never bought a jersey, and the only Oiler memorabilia I ever had was a pennant signed by a dozen or so Oilers. Even my football that's signed by Earl is a UT football.

Hate that color. Hate, hate, hate. And yes, 'cak .... I even poked fun at infantry guys when I was in. ;)

The Ravens don't wear Colts colors, the Rams don't wear Cardinals colors (although a red helmet with a white ram horn might look pretty cool, photoshoppers?). The old Oiler columbia blue was awesome in it's day, but that day is gone. The Texans are not the Oilers.

And the day we wear that uniform, the Texans go up 35-3 early in the 3rd Quarter.....

Uh sorry!

Anyways, does anyone remember when we played The Rams one year and it was the same day that we had Houston Oiler appreciation day with like Heywood Jeffires there. Texans were winning 21-0 and even HWNWNBM was looking all pro with 3 TD passes. Then half time came, they introduced the old Oilers and the Texans lost in the 2nd half to Fitzpatrick. BOO!!!!! I loved my Oilers but I don't want to relive them.

Honestly, I never really liked the sky blue either, especially not with red.

Sky blue is not ugly; it's just not masculine enough for NFL football. This is not an insult to the old Oilers players; it's just not what most adult men want to see on a football uniform. 'Course, we can't have 32 solid black teams either...

this makes the most sense, its actually been done before too. a current pro team with a very young franchise history, wearing throwback uniforms of a team it has no ties to other than being in the same city.

it was done in the NBA when the Memphis Grizzlies wore the throwback uniforms of the ABA's Memphis Tams. coincidentally they shared the same color combination as the old WFL Texans..

http://z.cdn.turner.com/dr/nba/teamsites/release/grizzlies/sites/grizzlies/files/imagecache/image_gallery_default/cunningham-137779263-630.jpg

its seems like a smart move, it would shed some light on the cities past. doubt many people know about the WFL Texans, or even the Gamblers..

leave it with that.

However fake throwbacks for newer teams with no real throwbacks is a bad idea. The Rays are doing that this season and not good.

Agreed. An "alternate uniform" is fine. The Texans even have an alternate logo that's very much like an updated version of the old WFL Houston Texans logo but it's an alternate, not a throwback.

Lets face it folks, we got nothing to throwback to. No big deal, we got our alternate uniform (Battle Red) and as long as we're beating asses in that it's all good.

You are not getting my point, I want nothing to do with Bud's team. I will embrace the former NFL players who played here in Houston or have a connection to this city pre professional days, but want nothing of Bud's records.

On a side note, I think it's odd that Bud is the only current AFL original owner who still owns a team to not be in the HOF. He should be in the Hall. So Houstonians are not the only ones to dislike Bud.

You know, I don't see how anyone can look at that picture and not see the pain in his eyes. Bud's running out of time and most of what's hurting him falls into the self-inflicted-wounds column. He's been on record multiple times saying that if he had it to do over again he'd have never moved the Oilers. He knows he screwed up just like I think deep down inside he's aware of every single misstep he's ever made. He should be loved in this town. He should be a local legend like Bum and Earl. He thinks this I'm sure but he also knows that he's the one who screwed it all up. He always grabbed for the cash instead of trying to build something that would last. He always took the advice of the guy who promised him success at a discount price instead of sticking with the people who wouldn't sugar-coat the facts. Bud's a sad case because he's aware of his nature I think but unable to overcome it. Bud's gotta do what Bud's gotta do and he's never been able to control himself so he makes these decisions and then has to live with them.

I'm not asking anybody to feel sorry for him. I don't. Absolutely not one bit. I'm just saying look at that face and try to tell me that's a happy millionaire NFL owner. You can't and I suspect the reason he looks like that is that the guy who has the hardest time living with those Oiler memories is Bud himself. He has to live with the consequences of that impulsive SOB's actions every day.

Reminds me of the old Kris Kristofferson song The Silver-Tounged Devil and I. Bud has a dark side and "All he's good for is gettin' in trouble".

I bet every game at Reliant he attends is sheer misery win or lose. He sits in that visiting owners box and looks at the stadium we pack full every year for the Texans and knows all of that should have been his. Then he flies up to Nashville and as nice as all of it certainly is he knows he's not at home and he knows it's his own damn fault.

That's what I'm talking about. Bud's widely known to have done a bunch of good stuff but he's his own worst enemy. Always has been. What's worse is that if you've paid any attention to him over the years you know that he's well aware of his mistakes and at times he'll admit to them. Back in the late '80's, my company used to lease our warehouse out to an auction that sold surplus Persian rugs. Bud came to one auction, complete with a safari hat outfitted with a fan on it, and bought about $80,000 worth of rugs. My friends, who'd I hired as labor for the auction, delivered the rugs to his house in River Oaks. He treated all of them nice, gave a tour of the downstairs of the house, and told them to each go into the walk-in cooler and pick out a case of beer of their choice.

So yeah, he was capable of being nice. But he's still a world class a-hole as far as I'm concerned due to his overall history in this city.

He probably should be thought of in the same way people talk about Lamar Hunt, and Ralph Wilson, but his reputation and history of boneheaded moves over the years keeps that from happening.

As a former season ticket holder for the Oilers, I earned my right to hate the man for moving the Oilers out of town. So, I hate him. Nothing will change that, and the Oilers are gone forever.

Screw Bud. He owes me some money.

My family had Oiler tickets from the 1st year they played, back in the Billy Cannon George Blanda days, all the way up until the announcement was made that Nashville had exclusive rights to talk to the team about a lease.

Once I got out of college in '83, I never missed a home game, so I am with you. I hate Bud for moving my team, but thank you Bud for moving the team cause now we have Bob McNair.

When they tear down the 'dome, they should put that statue right in the middle of the park...then sprinkle a lot of bird seed around it. :D
