Saw this on the Horns board. Surely this guy can beat out Tyler Thigpen.

I think it's pretty obvoius that "surely" can't beat out anyone. If VY's not careful, he could find himself in that category "other" and Brad Smith listed as 3rd.

Vince Young will go play for some arena league indoor team and become unstoppable. Then he'll get another shot in the NFL because some team's owner will think he's become another Kurt Warner or something.

It will happen. Mark my words.

They are out there blaming the NFL coaches VY has had, blaming the NFL receivers VY has had to throw to, blaming the NFL offensive lines VY has had to play behind.

Yes. You're right.

I would add this: They never let Vince do what Vince does. Only Mac Brown was smart enough to let Vince do what Vince does. Oh, wait a second...except THAT was against college talent and not against NFL talent. My bad.

In fact, Vince faced a USC defense that I think was ranked well below many other title contenders that year. He wasn't facing the NCAA's top defense. NCAA teams also have a roster made up of freshmen, sophomores, juniors...not all players on a defense are seniors. So Vince Young was facing defenders who were right out of high school. It's not like Vince dominated his entire time at UT.

Perspective by UT/VY homers was cast aside once he won the title game. As if that one performance existed within a vacuum. This is why, IMO, the brain trust of the Texans decided he would not be a smart #1 pick by us. It had nothing to do with racism. It was 100% perspective-based analysis.

He did dominate his entire time there practically. He only lost one game in his last two seasons there which was to an undefeated Oklahoma team who had gone to the NC that year. He led Texas to the Rose Bowl against Michigan that year and ran in like 4 TD's to win. The season before, they only lost like two games when he was a Freshman that didn't start until about 4 games into the season. The defenses in the BIG 12 weren't top notch like the SEC, but he was facing some really good ones and destroying them. ONe of the best college defenses I ever watched was that Ohio State team Texas beat that year that had Shleagel, Carpenter, and Hawk all at LB.

The key phrase is "Defenses in the Big 12...."

Plus, USC was severely lacking (in terms of strength on defense) in that title game. USC was in a weak conference and rode its own highly potent offense to the title game.

If anything, Reggie and Vince led two powerhouse offense-heavy teams to face each other in the title game...and it was a scoring battle all night long.

But when they got to the NFL, the parameters if their "excellence" soon changed very dramatically.

Those old threads are still around. There are some awesome quotes in them. Such as:

it's not every day that God drops you a gift from the sky. DRAFT VINCE YOUNG.

Who would have guessed God had so much invested in the Bills bench!

Oh definitely. The USC defense was not a great defense. They had a few great players, but most of them were young like you said. The big power house on D that year was Ohio State and Texas beat them that season though. Over all the defenses in the BIG 12 weren't top notch, but they weren't trash either. College is a different brand of football though. QB's like VY can be very successful in those leagues, and VY was one of the most successful QB's ever as a running dual threat QB for the college game.

You are/were one of the minority of UT fans that felt that way...or, at least, that's the way it seemed at the time.

You should go back to spring '06 on this board's history to see the vitriol and hate thrown at the Texans organization (and often Houston as a city) by these people. The amount of VY/Titans jerseys at Reliant that season was shocking, and made even worse by VY's game-winning run and "this is my house!" gloating and victory lap after the game. (Who knew that would be the peak of his pro career?)

Of course, NONE of those people were Texans fans to being with, and NONE of them have the balls to come back to admit they were completely wrong about VY's imminent SB wins and HoF induction. Freakin' typical fanboys.

You don't seem to understand DB. They are not about to admit to anything, they believe he still has a chance to be the greatest NFL QB ever. He just needs to be in the right system surrounded by the proper supporting cast.

Evidenced by these types of posts on certain Horns boards ...

He (VY) doesn't have to prove jack $#@!. His record stands on its own. What we are lobbying for is for him to GET A CHANCE THIS SEASON, which he may not even get due to the incomprehensible negativity that seems to surround the public's perception of him these days.

Wow! That is some extreme fanboyism right there. Since when does an NFL coaching staff rank players on public perception over skill?

What's funny (in the context of that thread) is this guy was replying to some sane UT fans that were getting on him for bragging about how he is spewing that nonsense on the Bills official board.

He thinks by posting a couple of Youtube videos (the Cardinals and Texans OT game .. basically the only good NFL highlights of VY that exist) and telling everyone over there how great VY is, that somehow he is going to help VY win a starting job. That is his way of "lobbying" for VY.

You know like the coaches really make their decisions by what fans say on messageboards.

I'll always root for VY through thick and thin. I'm just saddened and disappointed by how his career has gone down. He had some success here and there and he also had some improvements as well at the end of his 3rd season. He was pulled a little to early in his 4th season the minute he made a mistake or so, but he never bounced back after that, and it's been downhill ever since on and off the field. He has also made a lot of poor financial decisions and trusted bad people. I'd love to see VY make a come back, but after watching how he played in Philly, I don't ever see it happening. IF he couldn't play fairly well in Philly, I don't see him playing well anywhere. He'll most likely remain as a back up for the rest of his career.

I don't see him playing well anywhere either. Actually, after the USC game, not so much. He scored on the Texans but so did everyone else who had a pulse.

In regard to the rest of his career, I think you're seeing right now. Might wanna DVR it. He's toast as well as nuts.

Face it Tex. The cat just ain't got no smarts. He can't comprehend the playbook.

His eligibility at Texas playing for Mack Brown is gone... It's okay fan bois, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf and many others, had fans that were wrong about their guy, too.

Went to Bills training camp yesterday. I was mostly watching Mario. I completely forgot VY was playing for the Bills. After watching the QBs for awhile I had to look up who #10 was. He stood out due to poor throws.

He connected on a few good ones but most of his throws were over or under thrown. The one that stood out was a 10 yard crossing route that he hit the receivers feet. He got "talked" to by one of the coaches for that one.

I did find it funny that when they were doing a WR vs DB drill he couldn't find a receiver so he ran it

May the career as a back up be short as well. This guy had everything in front of him and all the talent in the world. He has pissed it away with decisions, work habits, on field and off field behavior. He had the golden spoon in his mouth right after draft day and chose not to make the most of it. You can lead a longhorn to water, but you can't make him drink. :vincepalm:
