More like 20. I don't blame you, but I believe I'm over it now. My faith in the Run 'n' Shoot died a long time ago and I never believed the Prevent D was good for preventing anything but winning.

You know, it's not often you remember what you were doing on a date long ago unless it's a great or very bad day, example 9-11 most of us remember what we were doing when we heard the news. I remember sitting on the USS Peterson DD-969 watching this game. By halftime I was talking a lot of smack to all the sailors rooting for the Bills, I was the only Houston Fan in the room. I don't want to talk about the rest of the day.

Not sure why that game would be nostalgic.

My husband & I were discussing that as well. He was at his parents, I was on our bedroom floor folding laundry! I also remember I had just bought him a CD ROM for his birthday ... it was $300!!! Dayum ...

I then remember seeing Warren Moon on Arsenio Hall show ... Arsenio was like "Dude, what happened??" .... ahh yes, good times, good times.

BTW - thank you for your service!

I didn't grow up here (Austin & Dallas). My first Oilers game was the Kansas City Joe Montana playoff game. That one game makes me understand Oilers fans.

There are threads on here from time to time about this subject, and the last time it came on I posted that I watched the first half and then turned it off. And tried to pretend the rest never happened. It still hurts....

OK.

Enough time has passed and I'm far enough away from most of you so you can't easily track me down and beat me to a bloody pulp but... that entire loss was my fault.

My wife and I had flown in from Arizona for some family get together or something. We both had to work the next day and my wife had bought the tickets two months before not knowing there would be an Oiler playoff game on that day.

We watched the first half at my Mom's. It was great. We were so psyched and happy. We even saw the interception at the beginning of the second half.

And then we had to leave for the airport.

We were in the car on the way to the airport when the wheels fell off. We listened to the whole thing on the radio.

I've never seen that second half.

And I've lived with the guilt ever since then of knowing that if we had just stayed at my Mom's house, we would have won that game.

sigh

I walked out onto my patio, took of my Oilers cap and t-shirt, threw them on the ground, and set them on fire.

Worst game I can remember as an Oiler fan, even worse than the blown Renfro call.

That was the day I cut ties with the Houston Oilers. I like to think it was a premonition of things to come, but I never rooted for that team again after that day and was not sad to see them leave.

I'm gonna say Renfro was worse. That cuts me deeper every time I see a clip and hear the announcers "this is a perfect case for instant reply" NO SH!T!

I remember the Renfro catch as a kid. But, in hindsight, the game was still up in the air at that point. Even if the Oilers had scored a TD with that catch, the game would have been tied. And considering that Earl only had 15 yards on 17 carries for the entire game, it is very likely that the Steel Curtain would have continued to dominate. That game certainly hurt, but it was not a lethal wound.

The 35-3 game, however, should have been money in the bank. No team in NFL history, before or after that game, has blown such a substantial lead in the post-season. That was an epic meltdown that blew the bottom out of this fanbase. After that game and fallout, all Houston fans could muster was some apathy when Slug Adams started demanding a stadium just a couple of years after renovating the 'dome on his behalf. This game killed. It was a lethal beheading that lost this city a football team.

If that wasn't bad enough they then gave up a half time lead the next year to "washed up" Joe Montana to end their playoffs again.

Gotta say though, I doubt they would have won a Super Bowl either of those years. Somebody is going to chuck a rock at me but those Cowboys teams were freaking dominant.

That next season was crazy, with the 1-4 start and 12-4 ending, Buddy Ryan punching Gilbride, and another playoff meltdown.

I agree with you about the Cowboys. Any team that wins three Super Bowls in four years is dynasty. Same with the Steelers in the '70's, winning four out of six seasons. Both these teams dominated during their reign.
