I think you and 281 had a Doc and me moment from yesterday.

Yezzer.

I actually thought Demps filled in nicely. I'd have him as our #3-4 safety.

I'm pretty happy about this, he was great depth and reduces our need to draft a safety this year. We have other needs to fill, so I think this is a good move. Hopefully it's a minimum deal.

Quintin Demps: Demps untendered by Texans
Quintin Demps - DB - HOU - Apr. 5 - 11:27 am et

The Texans failed to tender restricted free agent S Quintin Demps, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Demps was signed as an injury replacement last season, so this isn't overly surprising. A fourth-round pick by the Eagles back in 2008, Demps has also had a stop in the CFL. He's a fringe NFL talent and will, at least, remain on NFL teams' emergency lists. Apr. 5 - 11:27 am et

So they cut Demps last year in favor of Barber (against my wish).
When Barber went down, they promoted Keo.
Only when Manning was out that they brought back Demps.

They didn't tender him as a RFA this off-season, and now they resign him.
Demps has worked out with at least one team (Titans) but no deal.

Sounds like the Texans had him back on the cheap.

He filled in adequately for a while, but had some bad moments toward the end of the season.

All that said, I agree that this is a safe move.
(He isn't guaranteed a spot on the final 53 though.)

It will also make sure that we got good return guys too. He was pretty decent at that too.

Cheap depth that has had some adequate playing time and knows are defense.... Can't beat it

I'm happy with this.

I liked what I saw out of Demps last season. Hopefully we can see some more of him.

He's young & improving. He may start for us someday.... or get us extra draft picks.

I like it.

Good signing.

Sometimes it takes the right system and coach for a guy to step up his game.

Good re-signing, eliminates the need to select a Safety for depth late in the draft thus freeing up a pick.

How excited are you to get to work with him for a full offseason this year?

“That’s a great question, because most of his flaws came through not knowing the system, and we all had problems with that being a new system. But having an offseason, having OTAs, he’s going to be a much better player for us.”

Yes, Demps missed part of the season. But I think we will see this is a statement that will hold true for many more of our players than just Demps........including the Texans repeat vets..........more than many believe.

I like how some fans applaud such mediocre signings like Demps and in the same breath dismiss the importance of losing the entire right side of the offensive line. Yes, I definitely sense pro bowl potential this year since he will be in the "right system".

I'd still look to draft Janzen Jackson late.

I don't believe this eliminates the possibility of drafting a safety. Not sure if it was actually a need in the first place.

CnD, msr. I agree that we will see many more players perform better with a full off season with Phillips. Championships are won more often due to lesser known players than superstars.
I like the Demps resigning a lot.

Yeah.... we're going to need for that to be true. ....especially for the guys who will be filling the roles of long time starters and the guys moving up the depth charts behind them.

Don't exaggerate someone's statements in an attempt to make a relevant post.

Quintin Demps, playoff game, 4th and goal, game-on-the-line stop: Play at 2:18 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-USVjKYHD3k&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLDA24959E41CD36B2)

He is good value for the money. He stepped up his game after getting cut in preseason.

The O-line situation is irrelevant to this. Bringing that up makes no sense.

#52 was Tim Dobbins, not Demps. Secondary players usually aren't #50's.

But he was thinking "What Would Demps Do?" when he made the play. I know so.

You can only sign what you can afford.

Winston (who I like) wasn't a good value based on what he made versus what he produced and Briesel chose to walk via FA. It happens.
