The Texans are hosting Northwestern State cornerback Jeremy Lane today, according to an article by Joe Owens on nflmocks.com and a post on Lane's Twitter account.

The Texans attended Lane's Pro Day on Thursday and were obviously impressed enough to bring him in for a closer look.

The Texans need to replace cornerback Jason Allen who was lost in free agency.

Draft projections for Lane are all over the place, which isn't unusual for a player from a smaller school like Northwestern State (Natchitoches, Louisiana) which plays in the Southland Conference with the likes of Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin.

Huh? The Texans are documented as bringing in undrafted free agent prospects with the player visits. It's unlikely Lane is drafted by anyone, including the Texans.

I reviewed the All Star game last night and had doubts about Lane.

He can play aggressive press coverage, but he isn't fluid like McCain; he isn't as fast as McCain either.

Now that he puts on some weight, his speed suffers a bit more.

It's hard to imagine him get drafted.
Looks more like a special teamer and a long-term prospect.
