A day after signing a five-year contract extension worth more than $20 million guaranteed, the enormity of that deal and what it means for Arian Foster and his family finally caught up with one of the NFL's best running backs.

When asked about hardships he and his family endured when he was a child during a press conference to formally announce his new, $43.5 million deal with the Houston Texans, Foster became emotional and briefly stopped the press conference as he described what was probably the lowest point of his childhood.

“The straw that broke the camel’s back,” said Foster, “was when I saw my mother . . . she pawned her wedding ring to give us . . . excuse me . . .”

Foster teared up. After a brief pause, he continued. “She pawned her wedding ring to give us some food that night,” he said. “I told myself that I wanted to do something with my life."

We are lucky to be able to have guys like this, like Andre, like Demeco, like etc.....

Guys who no matter how high they reach, they never left the ground.

He's gotten criticized for it before but it's really paying off now. We don't have the off-field problems like every other team does because we place a premium of having quality people become a part of our franchise.

You look at the roster from top to bottom and it's significantly full of grounded smart players. Andre, Walter, Schaub, TJ, Foster, Casey, Daniels, Dreessen, Winston, Myers, Brisiel, Mario, Antonio, Cody, Watt, Barwin, Nading, Reed, Joseph, Manning, Quin.... the list goes on and on of playes that are TEAM first and class acts.

I nearly had a joke about you wanting things to turn into a dick, probably at midnight, but I couldn't pull it together...

I love how he also stated that he wanted to get his contract finished as soon as possible so the team could go on and make other off-season moves. Thats just another example of Foster putting the team first. Hopefully he retires a Texan

Regardless of what material possesions his family did or didn't have when he was growing up, he obviously was given a great morale foundation and that means everything.

He was not, however, given a sense of style.

We are lucky to have him on our team. He's a nice person, a hell of a running back, and fits our offensive scheme perfectly.
