As we gear up for Texans free agent talk I thought a little 'what to expect' article on Arian Foster's free agency situation was appropriate.

Foster will become a restricted free agent (RFA) when the free agency period begins during the first week of March unless the Texans lock him up to a long term deal before then.

If the parties can't agree on a long term deal before then, the good news is that the Texans can 'restrict' Foster's movement by making him a 'qualifying offer' or tender.

While researching the new RFA tender amounts I noticed something that slipped past me when the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) was published early last August.

The old CBA had five levels of RFA tender:

First and third round (maximum) tender
First round tender
Second round tender
Original draft pick tender
Right of first refusal (minimum) tender

MW AND Chris Meyers AND Joel Dreesen AND Mike Brisiel AND......whoever in the hell else not named Andre "but ya doesn't have-ta call me" Johnson will be shown the door before Foster walks outta here. Dude is getting a check and calling his shot. Hopefully he's got the good sense to know that 5 mil a year is la-la-land money and the team needs all the cap room it can get to win a ring or two.

At the very least we Tag him.

No need to tag him as he's an RFA.

I expect them to work out a longterm deal satsifactory to both parties.

The article by AJ doesnt really have a thing to do with Foster .... other than saying that the rules have changed when it comes to compensation if they were to lose him ..... Its the offseason and .... he has to write something.

He knows , You know and I know .... Foster will be a Texan next season.

Take it to the bank.

There are teams who have way more cap space than the Texans. So if they put the tender on him, there may be teams who are willing to give him more money than the Texans can possibly match.

A more certain alternative is to franchise him or threaten franchising to get a long term deal.

I am hoping that the Texans and Foster find mutually satisfactory contractual terms.

On a serious note: Mike McCartney (http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nfl/120118-arian-foster-taking-safe-aprroach-and-skipping-pro-bowl)

Haloti Ngata (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6997298/baltimore-ravens-sign-dt-haloti-ngata-five-year-contract?eleven=twelve) has the same agent.

His agent, Mike McCartney, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Ngata will get $40 million in the first two years of the deal. A source familiar with the deal told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the total value of the deal is $61 million.

Also here is a story about Mike and the group he works with.
