Warren Sapp was the only person who said the Broncos have to use Tebow and his style to their own advantage.

Sapp said (paraphrasing) "You don't put in Brady Quinn. You dance with the one who brung ya' this far. Tebow is perfect for this game. You slug it out, you drag the Steelers into YOUR world by making the game ugly, low-scoring, and a back and forth battle on the ground. You don't get into a passing war with Big Ben."

Sapp is smarter than most of the guys he works with. Seriously.

It's almost as if people are put off that Tebow is not the run-of-the-mill NFL QB, the stereotypical QB we're accustomed to seeing.

Today's NFL QB has to be this laser-armed guy who has pretty mechanics and can call any of 25 audibles at the line (correctly, btw) and just generally "looks like a QB."

Enter Tebow. Mechanics are nothing flashy. Isn't really touted as being worthy of being on an NFL roster at all. Actively rooted against by most NFL commentators and fans who think he's going to be out of the league at the end of 2011.

There's something to be said for a guy just being a lunch pail type of QB.

Reminds me of a clean-cut version of Jim McMahon of the 1985 Bears. Except Tebow can RUN with the ball, and that is used as an advantage for him.

I don't think they stand a chance vs. the Patriots.

But think about this: If we beat Baltimore, and the Broncos find a way to beat Patriots, we're playing the Broncos IN HOUSTON for the AFC Championship.

Everybody needs to root for this scenario to play out. Chiefs, Bills, and even the Patriots have found ways to shut down Tebow. We can, too.

Bill Cowher wanted to start screaming at the rest of his co hosts at halftime.

GP
01-08-2012, 06:31 PM
At halftime, Shannon Sharpe says "Look, we don't need to make any excuses for the Steelers, and I mean that in no offense to them (Reaches over to acknowledge Cowher), but we need to give Tim Tebow credit. He had to throw the ball well today ad he's doing just that."

Shannon Sharpe is a classy guy, IMO. He doesn't play by the Good Old Boys rules of covering the tracks of his fellow commentators.

Example: Boomer Esiason pulls the same stunt that Barkley pulled at halftime of our game yesterday, saying that he thinks the Steelers will pose big problems for the Broncos in the second half....I mean, the Steelers are losing heart (like the Bengals did) they've had momentum against them going into the half (like the Bengals did) and the Steelers are on the road (like the Bengals were). Shannon Sharpe doesn't let that slide, and makes the comment I just posted (above). He doesn't choose to poo-poo the moment, and he makes sure that viewers know that not everybody is going to root against Tebow.

Esiason and Simms are the two former NFL QBs that I disliked when they played, and dislike them NOW for how they operate in their analysis. They are snide, petty, smarmy talking snot faces IMO. By contrast, I really like Marino, Sharpe, Cowher.

After the Tim Tebow-led Broncos surprise victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, it is surely safe to say that upset is in the air.

If Tim Tebow can go off for 315 yards against the Steelers, then what would be so wild about seeing TJ Yates do the same against the Ravens next Sunday? Surely Yates will take inspiration from this amazing accomplishment by Tebow and the Broncos.

And for an additional bonus, if the Broncos can upset the Patriots, like they did the Steelers today, and the Texans can upset the Ravens, the AFC championship game will be played in Houston at Reliant stadium. Now that would be great fun and something to look forward to.

Hervoyel, I have always respected your opinion and still do, but respectfully disagree. I truly believe that Tebow is being true to what he believes in a climate that the popular thing is to acknowledge everything except your faith. I recall that Warner also was heavily criticized for his faith with some going as far to say during his down years, he would probably be a better quarterback if he weren't always referring to God or Jesus and going to church when he should be concentrating on football. One thing for sure is if he isn't genuine, we will find out soon enough.

That's fine. I don't really care if anyone agrees or disagrees with me and honestly it does not matter what I think of him.

I think you're mistaken about the climate and it being popular to not acknowledge your faith. I think more than anything I see christians all around me who claim that they live in a world that marginalizes and attacks their faith but in fact the world they live in is overwhelmingly christian and filled with other christians claiming the same thing. It's more a topic for the NSZ so I won't go on about it. I'll just say that I care less about his religion than I do about his game.

If all things were equal and Tim Tebow wasn't dropping to a knee all the time or "bravely" speaking his mind on matters of faith he'd be just another QB the NFL didn't want and he'd probably not have generated the kind of support necessary to push his way into the opportunity he's making the best of.

How many QB's come out of college every year without the skills to play in the NFL? So many it's hard to count.

How often does one of those guys capture enough attention to get drafted in the first round despite the fact that he's not going to help his team at all right away? Lets go with "Never" on that one.

How often do we see a QB with questionable skills stir up enough support from fans to get billboards thrown up calling for him to be given a chance to play? That's a very rare occurrence even with QB's who belong in the NFL.

Now, Having gone through all of that how often does said QB survive a coaching change and then find himself playing for a coach/GM/team that is willing to install an unbelievably primitive offense just to take advantage of what little he can do well as they slowly spoon-feed him a grown-up offense?

Everyone thinks Tim Tebow doesn't want all this attention. Well without it and the support of countless christians who see in him "whatever they want to see" (much like their various interpretations of their religion) he'd be trying to adapt to TE, FB, or some other position, or out of football entirely.

I'm not saying he won't become a quality starter or can't become a quality starter. (I guess with enough time spent on it anything is possible here) I'm saying that NFL starters are rare but they're not so rare that you find a guy like Tim Tebow and go through this much trouble to make it work. He's where he is exactly because of the interest he generates every time he kneels down and throws a "Tebow" or thanks Jesus for the chances he's had.

He should actually (Thank Jesus). If he didn't leverage all the attention he gets from christians he wouldn't be playing QB in the NFL right now. In a way he's right. It is a miracle of sorts.

Interesting perspective and I appreciate the feedback. However, I do think there is something special about him because by all logic, he doesn't demonstrate the attributes of an NFL quarterback except in spite of it all, he manages to win which is more than I can say about my beloved Romo. I also recall the dread when Schaub was injured, then followed up with Liernart's injury, and IMO, enters Yates (who?), and nothing short of the spectacular has occurred. IMO this has been a year of surprises. I've experienced too much football this weekend, and better act as though I need to be alert in my profession in a few hours and now I will :backsout:

Really? I am totally exhausted from the games this past weekend and have one more tonight. Perhaps it was being there, but the Texans game was very exciting and to add to it I was in the endzone to see Andre burn Pacman, and that beauty delivered to Watt.

I stopped by a tailgate after the game and some were discussing New Orleans about to lose, and I thought, yeah, right. Not going to happen in New Orleans. I arrived home about the time New Orleans woke up. After church I caught the Giants game, which didn't interest me much. Then the game I expected to be boring was awesome.

Anybody who humiliates the Steelers on primetime is no enemy of mine.

Hail Tebow.

I wouldnt say they humiliated the Steelers .... but they did send them to the golf course ..... and thats good enough for me.

I hate me some Steelers .....

I thoroughly enjoyed the result for the same exact reason. I was an Oiler fan too.

I'd feel almost as giddy if they did it to the Pats this weekend too. Now Pittsburgh fans know what its like to be this nauseated.
