Bulls on Parade

Choice snippets of this were played before a couple snaps with the Texans on defense Sunday. Outstanding.

Not referencing any song or singer - just the term Bulls on Parade as a description of our defense in anyway just conjures up pictures of cows in tutus - sort of like the dancing elephants/hippos in Fantasia.

Get your mind off of the gay pride parade and imagine an arena of angry bulls that see nothing but red. Then imagine that hook from the song on repeat and fill your head with rage.

Maybe it will work...

Btw, I'm not to big on nicknames for defenses. But I do like to see my fellow fans get a little nuts with me. For some reason that got the stadium rocking, along with the players. I'm for whatever works.

Been listening to Rage for three decades, and have seen them three times, save your lecture and stick to shining shoes. It is a lame application for a nickname. As a song to inspire the play on the field and to get the fans raging, yes.

lol! Lecture? Simply asking people to be informed of the song from which the name derives is a lecture? Wow dude, chill out. People fly off the handle all the time about stuff they don't know about, I'm trying to help inform the masses who may think it's a "gay" name or otherwise. Is it really too much to ask that people listen to a 3 minute song before jumping to conclusions?

Right, I figured that, but the word parade is simply too interchangeable with the Macy's day thing to simply expect it to carry the edgy connotation.

Too many people in here are backwoods hicks whos only exposure to "parade" is what they see on TV during the holidays.

Ever seen a military leader standing on a podium watching his troops march by in formation? That is a parade. It is the original parade. Floats and homosexuals are something that we added in later for entertainment value.

Also this:

"Bulls on Parade" addresses the American military-industrial complex, a situation in which industry (the arms industry, primarily) urges government to take military action, with the intent of obtaining military contracts, to thereby increase its revenue. The idiom "bulls on parade" refers to a bull market. The symbol may also mean the muscularity of American responses to complex problems; we act like mad bulls on dress parade rather than negotiating or using less violent strategies. Also the verse, "They rally around the family, with a pocket full of shells" could refer to the composer's belief that American politicians in both parties represent the family as an integral part of their policies, but in actuality they use this as a "scarecrow" tactic because they really have pockets full of ammo ("shells") catering to the military-industrial complex.

Ignoring the negative aspects, the thought of a bunch of "mad bulls on dress parade" solving their problems by brute force is very fitting for this defense.

Put aside your gay pride hang-ups and try to remember that parades are a military matter at heart.

I have no problem at all with the defense being nicknamed "Bulls on Parade". I actually really like it.. because it brings to mind a bunch of bulls stomping through the streets and lording over the lesser folks :D. Plus it has a fitting song attached to it.

Sure you could name the defense "Spiked bulls of bloody painful death hitting darkness" or something similar... but i find those kinds of names to be less "cool" and more "middle aged man trying too hard to be cool".

I can't get behind Bulls on Parade, it just doesn't work. It doesn't make a strong enough statement and as has been seen above it takes too much explanation to get someone to understand it.

I agree the song has that fire up aspect to it, the name just doesn't fit. This is my opinion on it. Just in case someone wanted to know and even if you didn't :bubble::shades:

Love RATM. Love the Texans D.

HATE trying to put the 2 together. This is one really valid reason why players should stay off Twitter during the season. This is worse than what Arian Foster did.

Not to mention, when fans or players try to force these nicknames, consider it a lap around the shark. Full-on shark-jumping occurs when the media starts picking up on these stupid names.

John Facenda would have never uttered these words. He'll be spinning in his grave if this stupid name ends up on a highlight reel.

I'm not condoning using the word gay in a negative manner, but I've found that interesting as the country has gotten more and more PC. I grew up in the 80's, and that was what every boy said to one another to piss them off. Again not saying it was OK, that's just the way it was.

Yeah. This is Houston Fans wrapped up in a nutshell. For 10 years they've tried to nickname a defense that sucked.....then the defense comes alive bigtime, give themselves a nickname, go out and shutdown a high caliber offense and that's not good enough. Not good enough = Texans' fans in a nutshell. Everything is not good enough.

Bulls on Parade means a bull made of flowers rolling down a city street mid-tickertape parade to you then you need to pull away from the computer screen and see what the rest of the world has to offer you.

Bulls on Parade means a bull made of flowers rolling down a city street mid-tickertape parade to you then you need to pull away from the computer screen and see what the rest of the world has to offer you.

Imagine another team used that as their defense's nick name.

Imagine if you were into shit talking.

Do you not see the plethora of material you have to work with?

I'm sure we can be all, "No, you guys are using it all wrong. The name refers to the socialistic Rage against the Machine song with the same title."

& they'll be, "Oh, thank you for pointing that out. Let me find something else more appropriate to make fun of."

Hell no, you'll see pictures of Brian Cushing, Brooks Reed, & Antonio Smith wearing Tutu's for years to come.

It's ridiculous.

If they want to adopt that as their theme song.... great, I'll jam along when I hear it at Reliant, I'll think about them when I hear it on the radio, I'll make it my freak'n ringtone for Mario Williams.

But I'm not calling the Texans' defense Bulls on Parade.

Anyway, love the reference. Rage against the Machine is far from "gay" (Excuse the hate mongering.)

I thought Grams meant the happy kinda' gay. The word does have more than one definition, you know.

http://behance.vo.llnwd.net/profiles/75307/projects/205534/753071238712538.jpg

I think an image representing the meltdown of the capitalistic system and destruction of society is a great way to say defense!

Rage Against the Machine...Raging Bulls..

If you have to go with a nickname go "Raging Bulls" with the Bulls on Parade as the theme music...

I like it...at least as it contrasts to the nick in question.

I think its pretty lame, Cush is not really a fan either. (http://www.houstontexans.com/tv-media/videos/1-on-1-with-Brian-Cushing/c0f89ea2-f792-4eb1-95b9-6b9861d9c33f)

"Bulls on Parade" addresses the American military-industrial complex, a situation in which industry (the arms industry, primarily) urges government to take military action, with the intent of obtaining military contracts, to thereby increase its revenue. The idiom "bulls on parade" refers to a bull market. The symbol may also mean the muscularity of American responses to complex problems.

Imo I don't think the name is "Gay". I also don't think it fits as a name for our Defense.

As a fairly new member to this board I was glad to read through this thread to be honest.

I learned that too many people fake being offended by the use of words like gay.
I learned that we are really way too focused on giving our towns defense a nickname.
I learned about some music, I learned about the true definition of parade.

I am a bit confused about some people freaking out about the misuse of the word Parade and giving out its origins while at the same not reading up on the origins of the word gay and giving poor negative repped Grams the benefit of the doubt for using a word that in most social circles is still used to talk shit to friends.

Anyways, the fireplace is almost out of wood I have to go toss in another ******. Good thread through.

Your post is one huge-ass parade of gayness.

I'm not sure which offends me more, the fact that there's gayness, or the fact that you've chosen to parade it in such a manner.

Also, the phrase "talk shit" gives me a bad taste in my mouth.

Now, please stay on topic, and help us think of a name for the defense.
It's very important, as we all know.

Additionally, successfully naming the defense might be the only way you can atone for your aforementioned gayness.

Just to be clear - using the word "gay" now causes neg rep.

We just need to get it totally banned then.

I did not call anyone a name, did not rant or berate anyone here about their opinions.

Having to be "politically correct" all the time is just getting to be ............

You simply need to supply the disclaimer "not that there's anything wrong with that" immediately after the statement, and everything's good.

I guess that's a "soft" nickname? I haven't seen them as soft at least since last year. Unfortunate, not very good, underprepared occasionally but not soft. There's nothing soft about that song, there's nothing soft about this team and specifically this D and there's nothing soft about taking a high caliber offense and making them scramble everywhere to pull out a handful of first downs and 10 points.

The name, whether it sticks or not it's actually quite appropriate and the song works, it's a total get up and get hyped song. Wolf aside, I've never heard of anyone who didn't like this song. It's just sad to see so many people begging for an identity and when one comes along it's not good enough. Because of the word parade or something.

I tell you this much, if they continue to call themselves the Bulls on Parade, continue shutting teams down and lead us to some playoff action I bet you a million bajillion diggity dillion dollars that about half the people in this and countless other threads will come out of the woodwork acting like they came up with the name before it was cool.
