Matt Leinart: "I think there's probably a pretty strong possibility I won't be coming back this season." #Texans

McClain_on_NFL John McClain
Leinart admitted it's his left collarbone, same one he broke in 2007 he said it doesn't look good for his return.

NickScurfield Nick Scurfield
Leinart said it was his collarbone & felt similar to his season-ending injury in '07. "It's pretty disappointing. Tough to swallow."

AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
Texans QB Matt Leinart, whose left arm was in a sling with a collarbone injury, said there's a "pretty good possibility" his season is over.

What do we do now? Start Yates the rest of the season or turn to another QB? Sigh..

Texans don't have many options. Yates at the very least knows the playbook. Clemons may know terminology but does he know the playbook? probably not. This is week 12 of 16, look for the Texans to pick up another one of the QBs they brought in last week as a #3.

I fully expect Yates to start next week,

He has never played in Kubes' system. You really want Kubes to switch his entire system to fit a QB prior to week 13?

I think the curse on our QBs is due to posters not spelling their names correctly.

The Football Gods demand better attention to the spelling of its mortal counterparts.

We couldn't spell Schaub and Leinart correctly. So the Gods gave us YATES.

If you guys screw up the spelling of Yates, then the Gods will REALLY be pissed off. This is a last chance situation, I'm afraid. You've all been warned.

If a collarbone fracture, he's OUT. They should know that now with plain x-rays..........collarbone fractures are common.........collarbone stress fractures are closer to hen's teeth

If he had a shoulder dislocation and it popped back in with minor soft tissue damage...........not a rotator cuff (if so, OUT)..........he could theoretically return in 3-4 weeks.

If he had a shoulder separation with minor ligament damage, he could be back in 2-4 weeks.

Nothing should be off the table. This is desperation time. I would be on the phone now talking to Favre's agent. I thought that talk last week was just silly. Not now. Truly a desperate move which has FAIL written all over it...yet If he is in shape, he would be my first choice. Granted he is a TO machine, and is a statue at his age but he can at least make plays and will get the ball to #80. If Garcia worked out ok, I think he could be a choice as well. We need someone with some real experience, leadership skills, a proven winner with experience in the playoffs. Should be easy. :spit:

Warner is on record saying he is retired. Favre is not as far as I know and this is a good team which might entice him. Massage his ego a little bit. With Favre we at least have a chance. Even with Garcia we have a small chance. With Yates we have ZERO chance. Less than zero if such a thing is possible. Clemons brings us up to a flat zero which is better. :gun:

Just the thought of Yates as our QB is just nauseating considering what is on the line, I say if you aren't going to bring in a QB with experience then bring in Chuck Fin Norris, at least HE could just tell the other team to lose.

Instead he is stuck in backupville for the rest of his career now.

Kubiak confirmed Leinart has a fracture and will require surgery in his press conference

Here's a quote off ESPN.com:

Kubiak said that it's Yates' job to win, but that Houston will need another veteran quarterback on the roster.

He would not rule out any potential free agents, including 42-year old Brett Favre.

"I don't think you rule out anybody ... I'm not going to rule out anybody nor confirm anybody," Kubiak said.

Carbon Clavicle Implanted in Lance Armstrong

By Thomas Valentinsen
Apr 1, 2009 - 8:48:22 AM

http://www.roadcycling.com/artman2/uploads/1/lance_armstrong_carbon_clavicle_collar-bone-xray_1.jpg

X-Ray of Lance Armstrong's (Team Astana) fractured clavicle and the INFORM carbon clavicle implant after his recent surgery.

Lance Armstrong and Bontrager today released more details regarding Armstrong’s recent collarbone surgery. While it was previously reported that Armstrong’s right clavicle was screwed and plated back together after his March 23rd crash at the Castilla y Leon stage race in Spain, Armstrong and equipment sponsor Bontrager, jointly announced that he was the world’s first recipient of an inFormŽ CarbonClavicle™ Upgrade.

Originally slated to be released at the AAOS (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeon) Convention May 18-24th in Las Vegas, Bontrager moved up the launch date of the inForm CarbonClavicle to aid the return of Armstrong to the peloton.
Wiggle online bike shop! Click here!

“The original intent of the Bontrager inForm line was to use medical research to aid us in creating better cycling contact points, such as saddles, shoes, and grips. But when we did the research into the most common cycling-related injuries, the broken collarbone proved to be an area where we could actually help cyclists get back on the road sooner,” relates John Balmer, head of Bontrager Development.

The CarbonClavicle, available for both left and right shoulders in four male sizes and four WSD (Women’s Specific Design) sizes, is an actual carbon fiber replacement of the clavicle. Developed with the aid of Sports Medicine Specialist Dr. Mark Timmerman, a Bontrager consultant, the inForm CarbonClavicle has greater shock absorption, greater impact strength, and a greater tensile strength—all while being grams lighter than the OEM bone.

“The installation on Armstrong was completely coincidental. But I must admit, the Bontrager marketing team was doing high-fives when we heard about Lance’s crash. It really was a marketing god-send. I mean, could there have been a better way to launch the new Bontrager medical Upgrade line?” explains Chris Clinton, Bontrager Marketing Manager.

The installation procedure is substantially quicker than the conventional collarbone repair procedures of stabilizing, drilling and pinning, as this is a full replacement. Essentially, the broken bone is completely removed and the CarbonClavicle is anchored in place. Armstrong’s procedure took approximately 30 minutes and will reduce his recovery time from 3 weeks, to 5-7 days for the sutures to fully heal.

http://www.roadcycling.com/artman2/uploads/1/lance_armstrong_carbon_clavicle_collarbone-inform_implant.jpg

INFORM Carbon clavicle/collarbone implant.

The delay in releasing details was due to an extended approval process with the UCI, which has now ruled that since this piece is structural yet provides only minor aerodynamic advantage over the traditional ‘bump’ of a healed broken clavicle, it falls with the current parameters of the UCI rules.

Future sponsorship plans include full support and pre-emptive upgrades for the full Trek-Livestrong U23 team. “These guys are early in their careers, and if averages apply to the team, we think we can prevent about ten or more future breaks across the 12 members of the team,” adds Clinton.

Backed by Bontrager’s best-in-industry 5-year warranty, inForm CarbonClavicles will be available through referrals from Trek and Fisher dealers exclusively. Retail prices will be set by the retailer.

For more information, visit Bontrager online at www.bontrager.com .

From what I understand, this last April, Riddell had a much more costly modified PADDED form of this implant also approved by the FDA and NFL. Perfect for Leinart's problem of recurrent clavicle fractures. But, evidently, McNair and the Texans were too cheap to entertain going that route.
