View Full Version : Attn psl owners.....buy playoff tickets or say goodbye to your psl for next year....

I was looking through my PSL Contract.....If you do not buy playoff tickets....your PSL Contract will be considered null and void and you will lose your PSL for next year. I called the Texans to confirm this....and it is true....Just thought I would pass that along in case anyone is interested....

Non PSL season ticket holders would not lose their season tickets if they do not purchase playoff tickets. They would be able to purchase their season tickets next year.

Just like regular season tickets. This is a non-issue for me and I would think most folks as well. If you can't afford them, then buy them and re-sell, you'll get way over face I am guessing. I think most diehards will want to see that first playoff game though.

Yeah....I asked the Texans rep what the playoff ticket prices were going to be ....she said close to double what your regular season ticket face value for each game.....
if you pay 70 for regular season ticket.......playoff ticket would be 140......thats what she said to me.....

That sucks, I expected them to keep the price the same, I mean we pay full price for pre-season, it should equal out on the other end.

Either way, I woulld find the money though, if I couldn't afford it, I'd charge it. And if I was really broke, I'd sell them to pay off the credit card.

Wait.........so you can buy season tix without a PSL? I thought you HAD to have a PSL...

So, how much are season tix without a PSL? Do you get to renew every year and save your seat without a PSL and are you only paying face value?

Another thing I have wondered, are parking passes included in season tix?

I'm asking as I may try to have a buddy join up and split some tix next year if possible.

I've been a non-PSL season ticket holder since day one. I'm in the upper tank though. I think anything lower requires a PSL. Don't know that for sure though.

Parking passes are NOT included with season tickets. You've got to add that on.

I expected the prices to be about double - good to hear it won't be more than that. I'd paid whatever it was, regardless.

HTown- Non-PSLs are in the 500 endzones, some areas of 600 (including enzones) and 700 I believe. Anything else requires a PSL. Parking is an additional cost (if it's even available)

Go to HoustonTexans.com, check under tickets. Look up the seating chart. I believe there is a blue outline for everything that requires a PSL. I think it's the EndZones & everything between the 20s.

Parking is not included, but can be added & you pay for them with your season tickets.

Lot of traffic now. You will eventually be able to get on. Parking looks to be no change. The cost you see will be for 2 games, the semifinal and the AFC championship game. The prices are different for each game, wild card, semi and championship. I was unable to get exact breakout. Let's hope we get to go to a couple games.

A way for teams to make extra money. At least it keeps it's worth and then some on the secondary market. But's a one time fee (unless somebody allows their PSL's to lapse) to purchase the rights to the seat.

The college version is "donor seats". Same kind of concept, at least in the nfl it's a graduated scale with a stopping point.

I still don't understand the point of it though or why any fan would pay it. If you purchase season tickets then that is supposed to be your right to that seat for every game you have a ticket for. Is it so you can have the first right to that same seat the very next year or what? Other than that, I don't really see why anyone should have to pay that. It's like having to pay for season tickets twice.

You pay because you have to pay it, just for the right to buy the tickets (which you have to buy or lose the PSL anyway). That's the only way you can "own" your seats. You can find a guy who owns the PSL's and just sells off his tickets but the PSL's stay in his name they are not technically your seats. That's the only way around it, unless you are in a non-psl section.

I guess the point of it, is so the franchise can make money and recover cost for starting up a franchise and building a stadium. Not sure though.

Yes, you have rights to purchase tickets for other events, usually before the public.

Hardcore Texan
11-30-2011, 02:07 PM
A personal seat license, or PSL, gives the holder the right to buy season tickets for a certain seat in a stadium. This holder can sell the seat license to someone else if they no longer wish to purchase season tickets.[1] However, if the seat license holder chooses not to sell the seat licenses and does not renew the season tickets, the holder forfeits the license back to the team. Most seat licenses are valid for as long as the team plays in the current venue.

Seat licenses have been given various names- the most common term in North America is Personal Seat License and in Europe is Debenture. The primary reason sporting venues offer PSLs is that the proceeds are used to help pay the debt incurred during the construction of the stadium or arena. Opponents of PSLs see this as another way to extract money from the sports fans.

Yeah, I had it right.

Your decision. Your choice. I made another choice. I paid a one time fee of $1,200 per ticket in order to have the rights to buy the same ticket without the danger of scalping fees. Also, to have the right to not worry about playoff ticket availability. I enjoy the people in my section, we have gotten to know each other fairly well over the past 4 years.

Some people view it as an investment (not me), they hope the team will do well and they can turn around and resell their psl's for a profit.

You can do that, but you are probably paying way over face value for each of those purchases you are making for each game.

If you are going to go to a lot of games eventually it would be cheaper to own the PSL.

The PSL prices on the site linked by GHF is a secondary market. There are no PSL's for sale by the Texans. The sold out long ago, the only way to get them now is from current owners. Right now is not a good time to buy anyway with the Texans being 8-3 and likely headed towards the playoffs. The 2-14 season on the other hand was a great time to buy. The market fluctuates.

My PSL's original sold from the Texans were only $600 per seat (I bought them on the secondary market from the original owner this is not the price I got). 2 PSL = $1200 orginally. Similiar PSL's are now going over 4K at the lowest.

You can do that, but you are probably paying way over face value for each of those purchases you are making for each game.

This was my thinking.

Even though the Texans are probably going to be raising prices for season tickets as time goes by, I'm still going to be paying face value for them.

The Texans keep winning, the premium charged for PSL'd seats are going to get higher & higher.

You can probably be guaranteed now to get tickets just about anywhere you want for every home game for little over face value. But if we put together a Colts type of decade, or a Patriots type decade, you'll be paying well over face value to sit "where you want"

I though I remembered this who shebang somewhere....AJ had it on the Examiner over two years ago:

Here's the bottom line Texans fans: Just like Carolina, the Texans (or per the language in the PSL agreement, "Harris County-Houston Sports authority d/b/a 2002 Stadium Fund, or its assigns") can revoke the PSLs of season ticket holders who do not purchase playoff tickets. Our PSL contracts were drawn up by the same people that drew up the Panthers PSL contracts and it's a similar agreement.

Lots of legal mumbo jumbo, but again the bottom line is pretty simple. PSL owners are required to buy their season tickets every year in order to keep their PSL seats. We already knew that.

But seeking clarification on the playoff ticket part, I spoke to a representative from the Texans today who informed me that just like in Carolina, PSL owners will be required to buy playoff tickets otherwise the PSL could be revoked.

The representative said that message would be clearly communicated to PSL owners when they receive playoff invoices to avoid the surprises that occurred in Carolina. Link (http://www.examiner.com/houston-texans-in-houston/texans-psl-owners-need-to-pay-attention-to-what-s-going-on-carolina)

Gotta give 'em credit they were pretty unequivocal about it. I just ownder how the PSL legalese stands up (in court) with DEMANDING that you pay within 16 days of notice? I don't know about anyone else, but that's a pretty da** tight window for me. Spoke w/ the Ticket office and they have ZERO interest in discussing any extension of that timeframe. They are getting tons of calls on it right now (per the agent), but they've been told not to budge an inch.

According to the letter sent out that I got it said that they can't extend the date due to the time frame and getting tickets printed and sent out. The timing does suck but I'm for paying it!! According to the letter sent out that I got it said that they can't extend the date due to the time frame and getting tickets printed and sent out. The timing does suck but I'm for paying it!! I've been a PSL holder for 10 years and I was the happiest person in Houston yesterday getting a bill for $877! That is one bill I was ready for and accepted it with a smile!!

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

I will check my mail when I get home to see if my invoice is in the mail, and if not I will go online and handle things from there. With the possibility of both my teams going to the playoffs, December could turn out an interesting month for my finances.

I'm surprised that I haven't received anything from the Cowboys in the event we make playoffs with such a short window. I purchased tickets two years ago, but don't recall the timeline to purchase. However, I did go back and read my agreement and it is a little different on obligations for playoff tickets. If the PSL holder chooses not to purchase playoff tickets, they will be offered to the public. If the tickets aren't sold, the PSL holder will receive an invoice for payment. Then future season tickets will not be sold until the invoice is cleared. I need to read further as I imagine the next step would be the forfeit of the PSL.

It's highly unlikely that the Cowboys will win their division and get a home game.

Quite possible, but in the event that they do, I think more than a week's notice would be in order.

Who's going to stop them?

They've already got a one game lead on the Giants who play the Packers this weekend. The Giants also have the Cowboys twice & the Jets left to play.

The Cowboys have no one on their schedule they can't beat other than maybe, maybe the Giants.

Same here!! I have six seats in the Bullpen, and been waiting for this invoice for 10 yrs. Don't think I've ever seen so giddy clicking online and hitting the PAY button! Hell, I wanted to throw a party!! I've had my "playoff" nest egg secured for a long long time, and there was NO way I was going to touch it, before yesterday! I've NEVER stopped believing I would see this day come! NOW, I just hope our Texans complete this journey! I DO NOT want a refund or see my money go on next years tickets. I WANT TO SEE A PLAYOFF GAME IN HOUSTON, hopefully two!! This is a lifelong dream, and I'm gonna enjoy every minute!!

Don't have a PSL, no need for one.. have 10 years invested in the team, and paying for the PSL never made any sense to me. But to each their own.. It was a choice, no one choice is better than the other..
PSL is a money grab, nothing more than that.. and I feel for you who are forced into buying the tickets if you cannot afford it in these tough times....
Go Texans !

I'm definitely getting mine, it was just the timing that sucked and the whole 16-day window thingy was/is irritating.

I am seriuos about getting to the playoff game, since I bought my original PSL in 1999 and was a Bullpen season ticket hilder till I could not afford to drive from ATX and pay for it, I now need to get back as any Texans fan would do who has supported the team all these years.

LOL my friend!! I've been grabbing every overtime day I could get, staying at home when I'd rather go out, saying NO to some home improvement I've been wanting to do, forgoing some OOT games I really wanted to attend, and just pinching pennies. I knew I'd have to pay for them if the time came, and I didn't want to get caught with my drawers down!:mcnugget: Besides, I knew if this day ever came it would be at Christmas time. I paid for them, but, my adult children will have to purchase a ticket from me if they want to go. This is my GIFT to myself for 10 yrs of being a loyal diehard, and never giving up on my team!!

Pain in Full :)

I'm thinking about selling our 4 to go towards Superbowl tickets. I'd much rather watch the playoff games from our Tailgate outside the stadium and watch them INSIDE at the Superbowl.

I've wanted to go to the SB for a very long time and already have a hotel reservation in Indy. We shall see :)

I still don't understand the point of owning a PSL.

I understand the fans point of view. Football diehards. Fanatics want to go to the game and this is the rules established to do it. No choice.

However, I think it's a scam by the owners to 1) make more money off of fans (regardless of all that financing the stadium construction talk), because 2) it guarantees that fans will not use their feet to protest crappy teams. You are stuck buying the ticket every season to protect the initial monetary investment of the PSL. That's how the Texans can boast of ### of consecutive sellouts the past decade, even through the abysmal 2-14 season's aftermath (note the sellout record has nothing to do with actual attendance numbers, which the NFL likes to hide in a tough place to find on the 'net).

You know I would help you out if you really were in need, just as my fellow Blue Crew did for me when times were tough.

Owning season tickets for the first 8 seasons, I feel the same way. Gave them up due to lack of funds. I'd love to break down and buy a single seat just to experience a playoff game.

But, that would break my son's heart. Sitting at home by himself watching the Texans in the playoffs is something that I just couldn't deal with. Having both kids in my lap while watching our hometown team kick some butt is priceless in and of itself.

Besides, I have absolute faith in the Texans faithful that they will give our team an homefield advantage. Last week proved it, and a playoff game would be even crazier.

TO me you're still paying double or even triple what it costs to own season tickets. I would never pay the price for a PSL. That's inflating a cost if I've ever seen one.

I just buy tickets for specific games I want to see and I can do that for all 8 games if I want to and I'll never have to pay a PSL fee.

That works until we start winning, you've just had a great 10 years for that plan to work :P Some day you'll be breaking open the piggy bank to buy single game seats :)

I still don't understand the point of owning a PSL.

I paid $600 per seat for my PSLs when we started. I was offered $4000 for my front row seat this year, that's no joke. Nice investment IMHO!! I don't own the seat by myself, but, I would never sell even if I did.
