Though it’s unknown whether Matt Leinart will be able to parlay his shot at running a team that has the tools to play deep into January into a run deep into January, Leinart isn’t exactly stepping into the fray unprepared.

As pointed out during Tuesday’s PFT Live by John McClain of the Houston Chronicle and mentioned by coach Gary Kubiak during his Tuesday media availability, Leinart has been getting some reps with the first-string offense.

“The last month, Matt [Schaub] had a hip bothering him, had a shoulder bothering him, so we changed his routine in practice for about the last four or five weeks so Leinart’s been getting a lot of first team reps,” Kubiak said.

The only problem? Schaub hasn’t consistently appeared on the team’s injury report. Instead, he has only been on the report in Week Three, Week Six, and Week Seven. The fact that Schaub wasn’t listed in Week Eight, Week Nine, or Week 10 nevertheless suggests a failure to properly report Schaub’s injuries, based on the contention that the team has “changed [Schaub's] routine in practice for about the last four or five weeks,” which gave Leinart some of the first-team reps. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/11/15/in-propping-up-leinart-texans-admit-to-not-fully-reporting-schaub-injuries/

The Texans would never reve ... err, conceal injury information. I'm shocked at these allegations!

I honestly don't have a problem with it. There was a 0% chance he would miss those games. No point in putting him as "probable" if his status was definite.

Exactly. Except, you know, those pesky NFL rules.

LOL, the Texans are like the anti-Patriots. Brady is "probable" every week for the last 7 or 8 years and he always plays.

No point in putting him as "probable" if his status was definite. Its against the rules to not disclose injury. The NFL assessed $125,000 in fines to the Jets and former coach Eric Mangini yesterday for violating the league’s rules on injury reporting with former quarterback Brett Favre last season.

The Jets failed to place Favre, now with the Vikings, on the injury report during the final month of last season even though he had a torn biceps tendon.

The league announced it had fined the Jets $75,000, and Mangini and Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum $25,000 apiece. Mangini now coaches the Browns.

The information was out there. It seemed like every week I would read reports throughout the week that Schaub was dealing with injuries and be limited or held out of practice

Schaub was listed on the injury report for weeks 6 and 7 with hip/shoulder so these accusations are completely false.

A "torn biceps tendon" and "sore/banged-up" is a huge difference... Every player in the league is sore and banged up...

Specifically, what injuries were not reported?

Same here, but to take it a step further...

I was wondering why they wouldn't just come out and say Schaub will be out for 2 weeks and ready to play again, then in two weeks, say game time decision, for another couple of weeks... just to make teams wonder who's under center for a couple of games?

That kind of gamesmanship seems to be common in today's NFL.

This. Who plays proffessional football and avoids bruises? Never played in the NFL but I'm almost positive that being sore is a prerequisite.

More attention seeking meaningless drivel from Florio and crew at PFT.

Exactly, Florio is also the asshat that wrote that crap about why the Texans should bring Favre in.

I'm more concerned about the stipulations that dictate what needs to be reported & what isn't.

Do they have to list every single thing?
Because the Texans were obviously not trying to hide the fact that Matt is not 100%

If there is no question that Matt is going to play, then does it really matter that they didn't report a hip bruise or a sore shoulder?

I think teams should report fan injuries too.

So, they do all this "fining" after the season's over? LOL!

I think they drop this into the "we really could give a shit" box.

Yah, i just want to know what is considered worthy of a report... Is a "hip-bruise" considered an injury by the league, or just that: "a bruise"... Or if a player sits out a practice because of bruising/soreness, though the intent is for healing and the player will still start that week, does the sit-out require a listing on the report?

I guess i'm also making the point that 99% of the starters in the NFL should be on the injury report at the least mid-season and beyond, if that is the case..

Not trying to quarrel with VinnY here, just honestly don't get the big dealness of it..

Having played "sandlot" football with NFL players in the past, if I played in an NFL game, they would have to open up 2 new categories for me.............ALMOST DEAD and DEAD.:tiphat:

Schaub was listed on the injury report for weeks 6 and 7 with hip/shoulder so these accusations are completely false.
He supposedly split reps 50/50 with the first team for the entire month. Kubiak said that he had injuries that kept him out of practice during that time period. The Texans didn't put him on the injury report during the time that Leinart was taking all those extra reps. Its the timeline and the math.

Sent from my ryePhone 12G using Tapakeg donno, they weren't reported but Kubiak and John McClain both stated that he was too banged up to take all the reps.

So, they do all this "fining" after the season's over? LOL!

I think they drop this into the "we really could give a shit" box. hey, I'm just sharing news I hear. I thought that was what message boards were for - perhaps you think they are designed for spinning stories to match your disposition...donno, whatever. Teams have been fined for this in the past. Seems like something we could talk about.

They weren't trying to hide it. I also remember on several occasions Kubiak telling reports after practice that Schaub was banged up and set out or was limited in practice. They wanted to get him some rest and he'd play in the upcoming game.
