The power went out at my house a little after ten this morning and came back on close to 430 so I missed the game. Any major injuries to make note of? What were the big plays in the game? How many total yards did the Bucks have? Ect. Anything you thought was important please post. I know they whipped butt but I want some details from those who saw the game. Pissed I missed this game. Thanks in advance.

Gary if you read through the existing threads, especially the game day thread, you will get a pretty good idea of what happened in the game.

Never really a scare, we scored on the first offensive play, but missed the PAT. Ward, Foster, and Tate all had TDs. Schaub went home with a waling boot, but it's not believed to be serious, a rolled ankle.

Ravens lost, so we are currently #1 in AFC!!!

Tampa was outmatched. We did the same thing to Tampa that we did to Cleveland. Got up early - our first play from scrimmage was an 80-yd TD catch & run to Jacoby - and never looked back. We were up 16-zip (our first PAT was blocked) before TB cracked the scoreboard with a FG. Offensively, our running game was solid; all three backs scored on the ground. The defense was relentless. Four sacks and four turnovers.

TB never had a chance.

and the sweet dessert to top off the day is that Baltimore lost to the Seahawks which means we are now the #1 seed in the AFC.
Of course, there are six more games to go so I still worry.

Sorry you missed it. It was a thing of beauty.

That was total yds?? I thought that was a passing yardage streak...? We held TB to 141 passing. But they got 231 total yds of offense so if it was about total yds, then that streak is broken..

Hey buddy,
If you really want a recap of the important plays, I can play my DVR and give you the flow of the game.
It may take a couple of hours, but I don't have anything to do.
You can check back every half hour or so.

Hey 76 if you're going to re-watch the game and make some posts on it could you analyze the safety play for me please?

I've only ever had the chance to watch an NFL game in person once (Miami - New York Giants @ Wembley a few years ago) and the TV doesn't really give much opportunity to understand the DB play.

It strikes me that Kareem and Allen are both playing pretty well this season, while JoJo seems to have gone from a really good CB in CIN to somewhere at/near elite level.

Last year a lot of the blame for our poor CB play was placed on Pollard (who's doing pretty well for BALT) and Wilson who are now off the team, and apart from the odd passing mention there isn't a heck of a lot of talk about the safety play and what effect they're having on our play at CB this year.

I can't help but notice that while we've upgraded our starter talent, the likes of Nolan and Demps have been able to plug in pretty well without any real drop off in the play.

I'd really appreciate it if you have time man.

First Quarter

The Texans started their first drive on the 20 after a touchback and decided to go for the home run ball right off the bat.
They set up a play action fake to Foster to the left.
The Bucs LCB Talib and the SS Jones brought it hard.
Schaub rolled right and found JJ all alone at the Texans 32.
JJ made the FS T. Jackson miss and scampered all the way for an 80yd-TD,

.....

The Bucs got the ball on their 19.

An incomplete pass to TE Winslow and an 8-yd run by RB Blount spot them a third and 2.

The Texans took away Freeman's hot route, forcing him to scramble.
The receiver M. Williams did a good job adjusting his route to help out the QB.
It wans't really terrible coverage by McCain (but he can do better).
Nolan and McCain combine for the tackle.
The 23yd catch gave the Bucs a first down.

JJo then made a nice play to break up a pass to Williams before Blount gained 5 yards on a run (tackled by Cushing).

On third and five, The BEAST (Cushing) stuffed Freeman for an 8yd loss.
It was on a LB stunt.
Cushing started out attacking the strong side B gap but then scraped around to the weak side A gap.
Freeman never saw him until it's too late.
Barwin also pushed the LT into Freeman.
That forced the Bucs to punt.

Ha. My computer won't even stream this crap anymore. Awesome indeed.

Still another quarter to play, dear God

lmao

the guy streaming clearly decided to put us out of our misery, stream was dead for 5 min and now it's back with the miami game instead.

One man team. Sadly that one man is not named Vick or Sanders.

Achievement Unlocked: Better than Rex Grossman

I bet Haynesworth wishes he would've just retired.

If they made the 2 point conversion, all they needed was 2 more TDs with 2 point conversions and a FG for the tie................

I just noticed something.. THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE IN THE OFFENSE!!!! WE HAVEN'T RAN THAT HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE END AROUND!

I think Olson just took over as the Texans OC to call that end around.

I'd really appreciate it if you have time man.Basically, the safeties haven't made even half the mistakes that we saw last year.

A better defensive scheme helps a lot.
It puts the players in position to play like one single unit (the vast majority of the time.)
The guys then just feed off each other.
The result was as astounding as we all witness.

From their 15, the Texans marched all the way downfield to the Bucs 9.

Foster carried 6 times for 32.
Schaub completed 5 of 7 for 57.

On 3rd and 9 Schaub made a nice throw to Mason in the left corner but the FS Jackson played it well to bail out the RCB.
It was almost a TD if only for the nice play by Jackson.

The Bucs was called for offside however, giving the Texans another shot.

Schaub then got away with an INT when he threw the ball behind Mason on a slant. The CB Talib bobbled the ball as it was ruled an incompletion.
IDK if it was a bad throw or the receiver was supposed to squat (it looks like the former).

The Texans kicked a FG to go up 9-0
(Remember that Rackers had missed the previous PAT due to a high snap.)

The Bucs got the ball on their 20 and went nowhere fast, thanks to a 15yd face mask on the TE Winslow after he had made a 12yd catch.

On third and 9, McCain redeemed himself as he boke up a pass.
Freeman couldn't hold onto the ball too long since both Reed and Barwin were closing in.

Punt time.

The Texans next drive stalled at midfield despite 3 runs by Tate for 22 yards.

In 2nd and 8, the Bucs played the swing pass to Foster well, limiting him to a one yard gain.

On third and 7, the pocket collapsed for Schaub, starting with Winston getting beat on the edge. Schaub did a good job avoiding the sack and threw the ball away.

The Bucs got the ball at their 20 to start the second quarter.

Watts stuffed Blount for a 4yd loss when he beat the LT's cut block.

On 2nd and 14, the WR Benn beat Allen's jam for an outside release and flew down the side line for the longest pass play by Freeman.

It went for 33 yards as the mometum carried him (the receiver) out of bound.

A holding and a false start, however, put the Bucs in a bind.

On 2nd and 23, Freeman scampered for 11 as he felt the pressure from Reed.
He took the slide as Quin and Demps converged.

On third and 12, Freeman played it safe (or chicken shee) and went to the RB for a check down that went for just 2 yards; Cushing defending it well.

Punt again.

From the 10, the Texans set up the play action with a one yd run by Foster and a 6yd catch by OD.

The Bucs were so concerned with it (the play-action), they dropped back on the next play:

On 1st and 10, Schaub faked a hand-off to Foster then went back to pass.
As the Bucs retreated, Schaub found Foster for a 5yd pass.

Foster made 2 guys miss to turn it into a 78 yd catch and run.
There were 2 good blocks downfield (I'm not sure, but it was 2 out of the trio Casey, Dreessen, and Walter.)

The Texans led 16-0 with 8:55 to go in the second.

The Bucs went 3 and out on their next drive.

On first down, the Texans were all over Blount on a draw play off RG.
Four Texans got past the LOS, with Cushing and Reed making the tackle to limit the big back to a one yd gain.

On second down, Freeman felt the pressure, scrambled out of the pocket and threw the ball away toward M. Williams, covering well by JJo.

On third and nine, the Texans sent a 5-man zone blitz out of their dime package.
Quin forced the RT to take him on as Cushing beat the RG to the QB.
Freeman was forced to scramble again and threw an incompletion to the receiver M. Williams, covering by Barwin.

Here we see an example of how an OLB can help out in coverage as Barwin followed the shallow slant route.
Punt again.

The Texans followed suite with a three and out of their onw, no thanks mainly to a QB sack.

There was a mix-up in the protection call as the C Myers let the NT go free up the middle.

The Bucs started the next series with a hold, but managed to put together their longest drive (from their 27 all the way to the Texans 5 where they turned the ball over on down.)

There was a 14 yd pass to the TE Winslow (a variation of the 2-man route where Winslow was the crosser.)

JJ Watt then stuffed the RB Blount for a 2yd loss, Quin getting the assist.

On 3rd and 8, the RB beat Barwin out of the backfield for a 16yd gain, tackled by Nolan.

Freeman then got free from Watt's grasp and Barwin's tackle attempt for 12 and another first down (Quin & Demeco made the tackle).

The receiver then beat JJo on a timing route down the side line for 20.

On first down, Antonio and Barwin pressured Freeman into an incompletion to the RB Blount out of the backfield.

On 2nd down, KJ timed the slant perfectly to put a hit on the receiver Briscoe just as the ball arrived, jarring tha ball loose.

On third and ten, Freeman completed an 8yd pass to the slot receiver on a quick-out; McCain played off-man, willing to give up any pass short of the first down.

On 4th and 2, the Bucs elected to go for it with a lob pass into the right corner to the receiver Briscoe.
KJ played his technique well, putting his hands between the receivers' arm to poke the ball loose.

There's no PI that can be called there as the receiver was fading away and Jackson never touched him before the ball arrived.
There were two referees within 7 yards of the play.
Shame on any Texans fan who cries foul for a PI to favor the Bucs there.

With the ball at their 5 and 1:39 to go, the Texans played it safe and ran the ball 3 times before punting it away.

Hartman slightly outpunted the coverage for 53 yards.
As the coverage team didn't have quite enough time to get down field, the returner Parker was able to return it 11 yards to the HTN 46.
(Hang time was just over 4 secs.)

With 28 secs left, the Bucs gained 9 yards on 2 quick passes.

Their punter Barth then connected on a career-long 55yd FG to end the half.

.

Last year a lot of the blame for our poor CB play was placed on Pollard (who's doing pretty well for BALT) and Wilson who are now off the team, and apart from the odd passing mention there isn't a heck of a lot of talk about the safety play and what effect they're having on our play at CB this year.

I think this (in bold) is one of the reason for the animosity that's grown between some of our members.

No one was blaming the Safeties for the bad play of our CBs. In fact, none of the bad plays by the CBs were even discussed as most of those, we all agreed the CB played poorly (Kareem Jackson fell down).

What 76Texans was doing, was showing plays where he thought Kareem did what he was supposed to do & where Kareem did what he was supposed to do well.

He showed the screen shots, then he showed a page out of a play-book illustrating what he thought closely matched our formation & patterns.

We (myself included) blame much of our poor pass coverage on the safeties. Wade obviously agreed as much, since neither were considered to be part of this team.

There was also a lot of LB error that we never got around to talking about. Some of that was corrected, some of it, we're still seeing issues. Not just on TEs & backs, but the underneath coverage. They've got to occupy space in the middle of the field to make the QBs have to throw over them (but under the safeties & CBs) or make him wait until the receiver clears the LB (has more to do with throwing lanes).

Here's a recap from WalterFootball:

Texans 37, Buccaneers 9
By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell

(Editor's Note: This was embarrassing. It seemed like the Buccaneers were committing stupid penalties and making other dumb mistakes every couple of minutes. I can't believe how poorly coached this team is. They kill themselves every week with mental errors.)

The Texans started the game dominating Buccaneers and maintained control over four quarters. Matt Schaub rolled out and tossed a pass to a wide open Jacoby Jones about 35 yards downfield on the first play from scrimmage. He exploded downfield, untouched, for an 80-yard touchdown.

The Texans expanded their lead with a field goal and got back into the end zone with another long touchdown pass. On the play, Schaub hit Arian Foster with a short outlet pass. He juked Aqib Talib and safety Sean Jones to burst downfield for a 78-yard score.

The Buccaneers' offense was ineffective for most of the first half until late in the second quarter. They drove inside the 10-yard line but were stopped on three tries. Tampa Bay went for it on 4th-and-2 from the 5-yard line, but Josh Freeman's pass for Dezmon Briscoe was broken up by cornerback Kareem Jackson who perfectly timed slapping the ball away as it hit Briscoe's hands. At halftime, Houston had a 16-3 lead.

In the third quarter, the Texans put the game away. The Buccaneers had one drive killed by sacks from Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin. Houston then ran the ball up and down the field, and Foster scored from five yards out. Later, Freeman was intercepted by Brian Cushing on a deflected pass off Kellen Winslow. Cushing played phenomenally for the Texans with eight tackles, a sack that caused a punt and that interception. His pick led to former Tampa Bay running back Derrick Ward getting into the end zone with a 4-yard touchdown run.

With the Texans up 30-3, Freeman threw another interception. Tampa Bay later removed Freeman and inserted backup Josh Johnson. On his first play, he fumbled a handoff that was recovered by Houston. The Texans could have scored again with an easy field goal, but they ran it on fourth-and-long.

The Houston defense played an excellent game. They harassed Freeman all afternoon. Reed and J.J. Watt both had a sack, while Barwin notched 1.5 sacks. They also caused holding penalties and incompletions. Freeman was 15-of-35 for 170 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. Running back LeGarrette Blount had 34 yards on 10 carries.

Schaub cruised in the game, attempting only 15 passes. He completed 11 of them for 242 yards and two touchdowns. Foster had 84 yards rushing on 17 carries with a score. He led the Texans in receiving as well with four receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown. Tate ran for 63 yards and a score.

From start to finish, Houston played a complete game with the exception being special teams as Rackers missed an extra point and an easy field goal. The score could have been much worse.
