View Full Version : Tech vs A&M: The Final Showdown

Night games in Lubbock are always a little crazy. This one is going to be certifiably, balls-out, monkeys-with-guns INSANE. Not only is this the last-ever conference game between two schools who royally hate each other, but each is perfectly set up to exploit the other's defensive weakness. Tech can't stop the run and A&M runs very well. A&M has a weak secondary and Tech still has a bunch of Mike Leach recruits playing on offense.

And then there's the matter of comebacks. Tech has started three of its games by giving up significant leads, while A&M has collapsed in the second half for two weeks straight. Let's see which coaching staff can fix its problems first.

If any Aggies are planning to go to this game, follow my advice: treat the student section like a wild predator. Don't make eye contact, don't antagonize it and don't run away--you'll give them the thrill of the chase. The safest place for you will be at the eastern portion of the north end zone. Also, the local weather forecasters predict a 20-50% chance of rain.

This ought to be the best game of the year for Tech. I expect the Aggies to win, but not by much...

Looking forward to this game. Ags have only won one game in Lubbock since 1993, I expect the Red Raiders to protect our house and come out with a W.

Shoot em up!

Someone vandalized our buses in Lubbock. Excrement inside and outside of buses plus spray painted vulgarities on outside. Classy.

@Bill_Byrne
@DaveNelAgDuck Highway Patrol has pictures and Lubbock police were contacted. Drivers cleaned buses. Bus 3 still reeks.

The buses were rented locally in Lubbock, likely Tech grad owners.

Stay classy Tech!

What kind of excrement are we talking about here? Why haven't they supplied us with these supposed pictures? Do we even know what type of bus was rented? Just not enough details for me to form a conclusion here.

Sarcasm by the way. Pretty messed up if someone did that.

I can't say I'm surprised some douche bags from tech would pull a stunt like that. Very classy.

Obviously, I know all tech fans and graduates aren't scum of the earth as one of my best friends went to tech (and I also like you dc) but ever since the goal post incident, I have had less respect for tech fans than I have for Texas fans. Just a pathetic school with way too many low class fans in my opinion.

Messed up? Indeed. Someone ought to go to jail for that. But it's interesting how Aggies keep whining about class when they have these guys for cheerleaders:

Now. Back to the game.

Tech has avoided the slow start this week, but I'm a little worried by how effective their passing game has been. I expected a good run game from them, but if they can balance their offense we're in trouble.

Early reports from Lubbock are that video evidence has named Mike Sherman a suspect in the bus defecation incident. It is believed that Sherman confused the bus for a half time lead

I would rather not knock a school for tradition to be honest. Granted, A&M's traditions are dumb, but A&M is, well, A&M.

Honestly, I mean that in respect. Sorry, Aggles.

Don't know if this is posted:

http://espn.go.com/dallas/conversations/_/id/7077711/texas-aggies-buses-vandalized-manure-texas-tech-red-raiders-logos

"LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas A&M 's team buses were vandalized before the Aggies played Texas Tech. Drivers found manure inside and outside the four vehicles.

A&M athletic director Bill Byrne said Saturday manure went "from one end to the other" inside one bus that couldn't be locked. The others had manure along the exterior. He tweeted that the outsides of all the buses had vulgarities "spray painted" on them.

"Classy," ended his first tweet.

It wasn't immediately clear why vandals targeted Texas A&M, though the Aggies are planning to leave the Big 12 after this school year for the SEC.

Texas A&M assistant police chief Mike Ragan, who's in charge of security when the Red Raiders travel to away games, issued a statement saying that the buses were peppered with Texas Tech logos in addition to profanities.

"Late Friday night or early Saturday morning, Texas Tech logos and some derogatory comments were written on the buses in washable paint," Ragan said.

The Aggies were accompanied by school security and a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and no official report was made to the agency, an email from Aggies spokesman Brad Marquardt said.

Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt called the vandalism "unfortunate" and that it doesn't "represent who we are as a group."

The Red Raiders play the No. 24 Aggies on Saturday night."

That sure is original. Make fun of the corp. Wow! Did you come up with that all by yourself?

Say what you want about Texas A&M. Make fun of how it used to be an all boys school; make fun of the yell leaders. But it's pretty low to make fun of the Corp of Cadets (even though many of the guys in it are total douches) because many of them go on to serve in our armed forces and whether you like the school or not, they deserve to be honored for their service and the sacrifice many of them make.

A friend of mine at the game said the Tech fans were cheering when Fuller was down on the field with a concussion. Classy again.

Honestly, Tech is the only school I really hate. Can't stand 99% of their fans and not seeing them ever again will be a great benefit of going to the SEC. I still don't believe any of the rumors that said they would be joining OU, Osu and UT in the Pac12. There isn't a single school in the NCAA that has such a despicable fanbase coupled with such poor academics. No way do these clowns go to the PAC when the Big12 dies. I hope they end up orphaned and die a slow miserable death as a program. Good riddance.

The fans were booing/cheering because they thought A&M players were faking injuries to slow down the uptempo offense. The broadcast even brought it up and its been a national topic for awhile. No one actually hopes someone is hurt or injured. I've been to an obscene amount of Tech games where we have cheered when opposing injured players get back up and make their way off the field to show a sign of sportsmanship

Gus Johnson himself basically accused the Aggies of doing it after the guy with the dislocated elbow went down. After commercial break, when they found out he had an actual injury he issued an apology for speculating. Would he really put himself out there like that just to cover up for the fans booing?

That is absolutely false.

After four straight drives of defensive players "getting hurt" only to come right back in the game, that's when the fans began to boo. It was pretty obvious to anybody watching the game what the Aggies were doing. I wouldn't have booed personally but I know that the fans were booing because they thought players were faking injuries not because it was the aggies.

Anyway I don't hate anybody for who they are a fan of or where they went to school. I form my opinions based on personal experiences with individuals instead of broad sweeping strokes.

Sorry, but there are a ton (more than most other schools) of low class Tech fans. The things you guys do such as throwing the goalpost at A&M students and throwing eggs at our basketball players is despicable. It goes beyond just fun rivalry. Now, you can add the bus incident to the long list of despicable acts committed by Tech fans as well as cheering when our star receiver got hurt.

Anyway, I agree with your final statement completely. That's why from what I know of you, I like you and think you seem like a cool dude. But like I said, there are a lot of thuggish Tech fans. You obviously aren't one of them.

Oh look it's the self rightous aggie brigade...again. The "Our school never, ever does anything wrong" group, and y'all wonder why nobody is sad to see you leave.

Do we need another listing of ass-holery from aggie fans, or the corps of cadets in detail? Hell, I can even get you an instance of a&m corps members throwing a shovel of fresh horse manure at an opposing team's band. How about the Yell Leader chants that Paterno was on his deathbed cracks from a few years ago.

So, please get off the high horse and stop acting like y'all never commit any of the crap you are complaining about.

Cheering for Fuller's injury was a low move. Booing when the D players were down I can understand to an extent.

Any team that runs as fast an O as Oregon and Tech will always be suspecious when any D player goes down. After it happens several times in a half the boos will start. Is it right? No. Do I think any of the aggies players were faking the injuries? No idea. I do know that most of them came back onto the field within a play are two. Fuller and Stevens were the only non-returners to my knowledge. Would I be suspicious? Yes. It was clear that the pace Tech was running on O was having an effect on the aggie D.

As for cheering for injuries, the good behaviour is usually limited to Kyle Field. I had several friends at the 06 aggie-UT game, which was the Heard hit on McCoy game, that heard several cheers at the hit, boos at the flag and ejection that followed; and several rounds of Cart McCoy chants. Add to that the behaviour I've witnessed first hand in Lubbock by aggie fan I'll still say that aggie fan is like every other fan in the nation.

My biggest issue is aggie fan acting like nothing douchey every happens in Bryan, or their fans, team, and university are somehow calssery than everybody else just because they are aggies. And y'all claim UT is arrogant.

PS ag, it's only going to get worse in the SEC.

Please. I went to 4 years worth of home games at A&M and never heard anyone in Kyle field booing or cheering for injured opponents. The 'Cart Mccoy' thing may have happened, but I can't find any reference to it being chanted at a game. Apparently the label came from an interview with Martellus Bennett. In any case, there is a huge difference between a few people in the stands doing something, and the entire student section being audible on TV. I don't disagree that there are douches at every school, and A&M certainly has its share, but there is an inordinate amount of them coming from Tech.

While we're on anecdotes, here's a few for you. As I mentioned, I spent 4 years at A&M and went to just about every home game I could. I used to tailgate near the stadium with friends before most of the games and the only time I ever saw a fight break out was with a couple of guys from Tech and a couple of guys from A&M. It was pretty bad, to the point where the cops were called and cuffed all of them. Not sure what happened to them after that, but I'm guessing none of them made it to the game. So out of the 25 or so games I have attended, the only one where I saw a fight was with Tech. Go figure. Sounds kinda like Cowboys and Texans, eh? I guess they just bring out the worst in eachother.

Back in 1999, my brother went to an away game against Tech with some friends of his. They all rode up together in one car. After the game, they came to find out someone had slashed his friend's tires. Guess what? He had an A&M sticker on his car! Coincidence? I think not. Apparently several other cars in the same lot had their tires slashed. The common theme among those hit were A&M stickers.

A quote from an article about this past game: "They threw tortillas, gum, drinks and even a glass perfume bottle that hit one of the juniors in the face," Harris said. "I have never been flipped off by more people [or] told F-A&M.' So we would just smile and give them a Gig'Em thumbs up."
http://www.thebatt.com/atmosphere-recap-tech-fans-don-t-impress-1.2639494

And you can't forget shoving the goalpost into the A&M section after the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DSRsieiGWg. That was pretty pathetic. We're not talking a few students, an entire mob of them decided that was the place to park their goalpost.

It's pretty apparent to me, and I'm sure other Big 12 fans that Tech is the lowest of the low in the conference. I've been to away games at Austin, Waco, Dallas (Arky) and Boulder, but have never had any issues with the fans. Tech seems to be a completely different animal all together when it comes to the fans, and not in a good way. To me, Tech is like the Rod Farva of the Big 12. All these schools have their antics that are funny and such, but they always take it way too far and ruin things for everyone else.

I know you're good people Ckw and I try not to take anything to personal on the internet.

I don't agree with the booing of any injured player, let me say that first. But you have to put it in context. 4 defensive players went down before ANYBODY was booed, it wasn't like we just started booing people for no reason. Sounds to me like some of our fans just didn't know the where to draw the line at. Not condoning it but I can see how the wheels got to turning. I've been to dozens of games at the Jones and have never heard anybody boo a hurt player.

As far as the goal post incident, that was the first game I ever attended and the whole thing has been completely distorted over the years. Before the game my buddy who was a sophomore told me that if we beat the aggies we would tear down the goal post down and take it out of the stadium and carry it down Broadway. This was a Tech tradition that had happened several times before.

The game ended and hysteria broke out, the beefed up police protection and warnings not to come onto the field went unheard by the fans. I stayed at my seat to yell at the ATM players as they exited the SE exit of the stadium, which I admit was a bit classless on my part but I did get a helmet thrown at me for my efforts. I never went onto the field myself.

The goal post came down and was slowly carried to the NE exit of the stadium so that we could carry it past the Will Rogers statue and down Broadway. The problem was that their were several officers blocking the exit. That's when the mob decided it would be a good idea to carry the goal post out through the stands, then aggies started swinging.

ATM's chancellor was swinging his binoculars at students and hit an aggie student in the face, the aggie then went on to punch the chancellor in the jaw which got blamed on a Tech student until the true story broke a few days later.

Why were the aggies still in the stands 30 minutes after the game was over? They stayed to yell while we sang our school song.

I don't buy it. I understand as a Tech fan, you have to do your part to try to rationalize the pathetic act committed by students and fans of your school, and I'd probably do the same thing if it involved A&M. But I don't buy what you're selling that there was basically no malicious intent. Hell, it says something when the OP says this:

If any Aggies are planning to go to this game, follow my advice: treat the student section like a wild predator. Don't make eye contact, don't antagonize it and don't run away--you'll give them the thrill of the chase. The safest place for you will be at the eastern portion of the north end zone.

So basically, we should be afraid to attend a football GAME?!? Sorry, but there are a ton of retarded Tech fans that are little more than hillbilly thugs.

Like I've said on more than a few occasions in here, there are certainly tons of good people that happen to be Tech fans. A&M also has their fair share of classless pieces of crap. But the thuggery that goes on with Tech fans is so above and beyond what goes on at other schools it is sickening.

And yet no member of the Tech student body has pulled a weapon on an opposing team's cheerleader. Nor has a member of the Tech student body thrown horse manure at the opposing band. Nor has a Tech cheerleader started a cheer about the opposing team's coach being on his deathbed. Nor has a member of the Tech student body killed the unborn offspring of the aggie mascot. Nor has Tech published insults directed at a&m and Bryan in their media guide.

Get over yourself and some free advice. If you don't want a goalpost in your sectiopn a)leave when the game is over and b) do not be disrepectful by trying to cheer over the home teams school song.

I cannot stand the aggie who acts like a&m and the aggie student body is incapable of acting like any other 18-25 year old kid in America.

Stay dillusional aggie fan.

I'm a Texas fan and I agree with those of y'all saying that Tech has the most classless fans in the conference. But A&M fans don't really have much room to talk. At all.

I'll tell you what I think even though I'm quite sure that neither a Tech fan nor an A&M fan could care less what a Texas fan has to say about anything.

I've been lucky enough to attend games in most of the stadiums in the Big XII and here's how I would break them down, in terms of most classy to least classy:

1. Texas - Arrogant? No doubt about it. We surely run our mouths more than most, but I have never heard a complaint about a lack of class being shown at DKR (probably because everyone there is 80 years old).
2. Oklahoma - It's d bag central whenever we meet up with these clowns in Dallas. But for the most part, the rivalry is kept on the field. It's like competing against your brother. You hate each other during the game, but afterward you shake hands and wish each other good luck the rest of the way.
3. Oklahoma St - I think these guys could actually care less about what happens on the field. The only reason they even care about the score is because on every OSU kickoff they get to take out their car keys and shake em like crazy.
4. Baylor - The red headed stepchildren of the conference. Nobody cares about them, so they feel the need to be excessively annoying so they can get attention. Usually the scoreboard keeps them in check.
5. Texas A&M - Like all fanbases, they have a bottom 10%. The problem? A&M's bottom 10% is the worst.
6. Texas Tech - The rare fanbase that seems to have more bad fans than good fans. In fact, I would say that about 90% of the Tech fans I have ever been around have been complete assholes.

Never been to the following stadiums:
Iowa St - Do they even have fans?
Kansas - Basketball is another story, I'm sure.
Kansas St - Have only actually ever met one fan of the school, and she was a grad.
Missouri - These guys are only annoying when the Tigers are good, which is rare.

I read what you had to say. You were polite unlike the douche who posted above you.

I definitely agree that A&M has some crappy fans. I stated as much in my last post. Every school has crappy fans.

Perception is a funny thing though. Of course you think fans at DKR are the nicest and most docile fans out there. Arrogant? Who cares! But wearing my Aggie shirt, I've had plenty of obscenities screamed at me while walking to the stadium. I've had fans threaten me. So I'd say you are a bit misguided.

All schools have their douche bags. Our message board has our douche bags. Basically ever group known to man has the insecure low life that bases their entire self worth on the group they are involved in and can't be happy unless they are talking shit to people that aren't apart of their esteemed group. There are dip shit Cowboys fans. And guess what, there are dip shit Texans fans too, some of which have posted in this thread recently.

All that being said, there are only two places I don't ever want to attend a game wearing an opposing teams gear because their fans are thugs and low lifes: Oakland and Lubbock.

the main thing I notice is the mob mentality to be the least respectful and most obnoxious fan you can be. i'm not sure why but it seems like tech fans love the stigma of having a terrible fanbase. (the terrible isn't aimed at the support y'all show for your teams, but more of the lack of respect and obnoxious behavior that many students and alumni exhibit, especially towards fans of opposing teams)

I had two brothers that went to tech and I went to five games there throughout the years (two a&m games included), and for whatever reason it seems like tech fans love the fact that no other schools' fans want to travel to lubbock for a game; like it's a badge of honor that people don't like going to games there.

the way I see it is I think tech fans misunderstand the fact that it's not that people are afraid of their teams which is why they don't travel, the opposing fans just don't want to deal with the effing headache you get from dumbass tech fans there. stuff thrown at you, constant verbal abuse, literally no hospitality. this is what separates tech fans from pretty much every other school out there.

as for the pranks debate; every school in the country has multiple stories of complete dumbasses doing complete dumbass things. it happens.

the bigger problem to me is the lack of respect that tech fans have for visitors.

Hmmm...wonder if a&m will comment in response.

http://lubbockonline.com/crime-and-courts/2011-10-10/am-exaggerated-vandalism-claim-tech-says

Two days after Texas A&M’s athletic director told The Avalanche-Journal he smelled feces on Aggie football team buses, Texas Tech officials said information from a Monday investigation reveals a different story.

A&M athletic director Bill Byrne posted a message on his Twitter account that their team buses were spray-painted and animal feces were spread inside and outside of the buses early Saturday morning.

A Monday statement from Texas Tech said:

■ ”The buses were not spray painted. Instead, washable shoe polish was used on the windows of one of the buses.”

The buses were from Coach America in Dallas and were parked in the parking lot of the Holiday inn on Avenue Q when the incident occurred.

Blayne Beal, associate athletic director of communication, talked with the hotel manager, who told him the buses were cleaned within minutes by the bus drivers and a hotel staff member.

The manager said A&M officials never saw the buses, according to Beal.

And thanks for starting the name calling, real nice. Way to represent the so called better fan-base.

Notice the same smiles and laughter from the tard students, as well as the arms in the air in celebration. Nobody looks embarrassed at all.

This is your rep, Tech. You've earned it. And you're proud of it. So live it. You can argue semantics and shoe polish all you want, you can try to compare the smells of stinkbait and dog *****till you're blue in the face but in the end your rep remains, and a hard earned one it is. Deal with it.

also, scoreboard.

times three.

plus pretty much every other sport since spring 2009. (http://texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp?topic_id=1790867&forum_id=6)

And aggie, this is your life:

Dude, during the tortilla throwing days there was more Tech fan on Tech fan violence than that? Now granted few intended to hurt others with their tortillas, but still. Funny how the kids in the aggie picture seem to be smiling, odd no?

And aggie still continues with the name calling. I forget is that good ag or bad ag? And shouldn't a bigger school that spends more on atheltics beat a smaller school that spends less? Let's see that scoreboard against UT, hmm? Of course what's even funnier is that since Tech joined the SWC they have a winning record agains the aggies, the record from 60 on is 27-24-1 in favor of the Red Raiders.

I love, no adore, how aggie seems to think their fan base is so much better than everybody else's. How they think their little corner of the world is damn near perfect.

Hey ag, how would you feel of somebody kidnapped Revielle, gave her rope burns and caused the still birth of some of her pups? How would you feel if Leach poured kool-aid on himself and told the national media that those mean aggie fans did it, when in fact he did it to himself in some cheap ploy to motivate his team? How would you feel if the Penn State chearleaders start a cheer about Sherman being on his deathbed? How about kidnapping nd branding Revielle? How about if the UT fans stayed around Kyle Field after a loss and went if the poor aggies chant during the A&M school song? How about if one of Bevo's minders threw a shovel of fresh bull crap at the A&M band (who oddly enough was always the only visiting band worth watching in Lubbock, and usually the one that generated the most applause during my 4 years of going to games)? Think you would enjoy any of that?

Sorry, aggie but I've heard on one hand about how a&m represnets what is good and right, while UT is a bunch of liberal hippies and Tech is full of douchbags and on the other hand I read the news of equally ridiciulous acts of the studentbody and the athletic program committed by the Aggies. This insistance that you can have it both ways it what leads to people disliking A&M.

When somebody who didn't even see the bus makes a national media story about how bad the bus was vandialized, I'm sorry I going to take some offense to that. And when aggie fan starts to cry about of evil those damn Tech fans are, I am going to take a moment and try to remind them that their past is far from perfect.

Somthing about glass houses and petrified fecal mater.

So have fun in the SEC and all that. As much as you may be glad to get away from us Tech fans, most of us are equally glad we will no longer have to put up with your hypocritical asses any longer.
