Suck for Luck is officially underway. :kitten:

They could end up with the #1 pick and Luck ..... But damn that would be an awful lot of cap space tied up in Manning & Luck ..... Remember they just gave Pey_Me_A_Ton $90,000,000.00 over five years .... anyone recall what was guaranteed which would even affect the cap if he was to get cut?

What did Newton get in his rookie deal this past draft .... to compare his cost to that of Luck's ....

I doubt they could fix anything thats broken with that team with that much $$ tied up at QB .... Manning would gettin his neck cut on again on Monday after the first game with that horrible OL.

well if Luck is as coveted as everyone thinks he is. He could be traded for a kings ransom.

Won't it now be scaled? So the cost of getting Luck at #1 shouldn't be anywhere near as much as a #1 QB would have cost a couple of years ago?

Not too sure on that one.

Of course, it could be the case that Peyton is done, in that case, would an injury settlement still leave his guaranteed counting against the cap? Or even his retirement?

If you were the guy who'd just paid him $90M you'd be feeling a little queasy right now wouldn't you.

They owe Manning this year, but there is an out clause somewhere in the contract to protect the colts. I don't remember the details, so I could be wrong. With the rookie wage scale they could draft Luck and afford to let him watch and learn a couple of years. I think you could see a lot more trades with the top ten draft picks now, because there is not near the financial risk that there use to be.

Dont fool yourself. If they could draft Luck and groom him for 1 year they would figure out a way to remove Manning from the equation.

Cam got $5-6 million a year guaranteed for four years. Manning will cost the Colts at least $26 million for the out clause (less his salary for this year) if they want to cut him. I don't see why they couldn't go for Luck, let Peyton play a couple more years and then move on to Luck once Manning guaranteed money is over. Sort of the Packers with Favre/Rodgers model.

They owe Manning this year, but there is an out clause somewhere in the contract to protect the colts.

Manning received a $20 mil signing bonus so that and his salary this year is gone. Around March of next year there is a roster bonus (which effectively becomes the out clause) of $28 mil - if they don't pay it he is a FA. Of course that is pre-draft. Then right before the season there is another $3 mil roster bonus (salary for 2011 is $3.4 mil). They are on a real dilemna.

The roster bonus is $28 mil and it won't be less his salary this year. His 2011 salary and the $20 mil signing bonus are gone. To keep Manning their total outlay in 2012 would be $34.4 mil.

Newtons deal was on the new rookie scale which is why I was asking about it for comparison.

The yearly salary doesnt tell the whole tale , take a look at the numbers in Caks post showing Manning costing the Dolts $34.4m in 2012 should they pay the roster bonus ....

Did Newtons deal have a signing bonus (usually pro-rated over the life of the contract) ?

Either way , if they keep Manning next year and draft Luck , they are spending over $40mil on the QB position .... thats a large percentage of their total cap space.

I could see them trading that pick away IF they thought Peyton would be back 100% healthy. I could also see a team hurting for a QB giving up a "Ricky" type deal for him ..... giving the Dolts a much needed infusion of young talent to put around Manning for the next five years.

So the Dolts are now 0-4. They have the inside track on Andrew Luck. Draft Luck and trade Manning, or trade the rights to draft Luck. Either way they will get a kings ransom on return... Man they piss me off.

Indy plays 1-3 KC at home this week, and I think they are going to win that game. Of the 0-4 teams remaining, I think Indy is the strongest of the bunch. I think they are a better team than Minnesota, St Louis and Miami. Other games I expect Indy to win will be Jaguars at home in week 10 and @ Cincy in week 6. If they end up 3-13, I think that will be enough to push them down to pick 3-6.

I think Miami is a much better team than most give them credit for.

Of the 0-4's I rank them -

Miami
Indy
Minny
STL.

Should Indy win the Suck For Luck Sweepstakes they have to either trade the pick pending they think Peyton is himself again or trade Peyton - I doubt they get as much in return for Peyton as they would for that #1 overall.

They simply cant afford to keep both on the roster and remain competetive.
