Watching the game tonite to get a read on our next victim in our 2011 NFL Domination Tour.
I don't pay that much attention to these guys, so everyone chime in and give some advice and points of view.
They should have a decent D, but I have no idea what to expect out of them on O. Is Reggie Bust gonna be even more of a :kitten: in the wildcat? Brandon Marshall should be a good test of our secondary.

I'm obviously out of the loop. I thought Fergie was a fat redheaded British Princess of some sort. Who is this somewhat hot blonde?

They have a strong secondary. LBs aren't too shabby either.

Gonna be tough to account for Marshall and Bush. Lots of pressure on Henne and Sparano to open up the offense a bit, so I expect them to do relatively decently. Davone Bess is a nice possession receiver. Gets a lot of receptions. Gonna have to account for him too. Hartline is also not too shabby.

I really don't think the Dolphins are as bad as advertised. It's really all on Henne.

I don't really like Henne, I think he can be shaken easily so we'll see.
Also if Bush can handle the load at RB...but don't know much about the fins either it's said they have some exotic stuff planned for offense...

Edit: Also...I got Bush on my auction draft for the cheap...so i'm going for the Fins today!

You're right, but some of those passes are because of Brady. There was just one play where he hit the window perfectly. A moment later that guy is covered by the safety, but Brady drops the ball in there perfectly...don't see Schaub doing that as good as he is.

Henne is tearing it up. He's hitting his guys in stride, long passes down the seams. He just scrambled and got a first down, very smart with the football when nobody was open on that play.

Then a goofy mess up on 1st down. LOL.

Hate to say it but old man Bill is right. The dolphins arent the same chumps from the past. Henne can wing the ball, as you can see tonight. Marshall is a Hell of a WR. Bush somehow has a second lease on his football life and they have some great defensive play makers in Cameron Wake and co.

Sparano is a good coach too.

Henne ran for 59 yards and a TD. That aint too shabby considering he also threw for 416 yards.

Gonna be the first tough test for Houston but I think we will not only win but we will get a GREAT feeling for how different this Texan team is from years past.

The Dolphins are as one dimensional as the Colts. Wade will have the defense in position to stop the Fins offense. The players will have to execute.

My biggest concern is Eric Winston versus the Dolphins OLB Cameron Wake. Next would be Chris Myers versus 350 lb NT Paul Soliai. The offense will stutter if these guys are beat on a consistent basis.

Not that Wake and Soliai aren't good players, but Winston and Meyers have proven that they can handle themselves vs good players already. I'm a lot more worried about something like Hartline/Bess being guarded by Kareem Jackson. I also worry about what might happen when our defense faces an actual offensive line and not 5 schmoes made to look better by a HOF QB.

Seeing how Danny Woodhead and Green-Ellis averaged nearly 5 yds per tote, we will likely pass sparingly. The Pats passed nearly 50 times to only 22 runs. Our ratio will be closer to a 50/50 split.

My first reaction to what I saw last night from the Dolphins was, "Were Dolphin fans really booing Henne during training camp?" Dude looked great all around... Good arm, threw the ball where the receiver was the only guy with a chance, checked down very well etc... they have a purdy good offense going on in Miami nowadays, eh?

The Dolphin Oline does give me some hope, they seemed to bend AND break a little much last night... maybe it was just the Pats?

their defense looked to have enough holes in it that I'm not extremely concerned...

BUT, very impressed with Henne and that offense considering what it's been in the recent past...

With 350 in the middle and Wake on the side, I expect we'll see
Schaub rolling out the pocket quite a bit. That should neutralize those two just enough... Run, Run, rollout-pass.

Honestly, I don't worry a lot about the opponents pass rush or run defense. Not that they aren't factors and we have great linemen that always get it done, but freeney and Mathis have been tuning brown and Winston up for a few years now. I'm more concerned about defensive coordinators who have consistently shown the ability to out scheme protections.

Now, what I am worried about is just that I think Miami has a better team overall than the colts. I think we will win, but we won't be able to turn the ball over like we did last weekend.

Bruski who is a was a linebacker for the Pats and now works for ESPN was talking about Henne and his limited checking down of receivers....as he will look for his number 1 receiver...but then if he is covered he would throw it out to a rb ...someone coming out of the backfield and not go to his 2nd or 3rd option....that is what he said before last nights game.....

1. Henne throwing that well again on an untested secondary
K Collins is probably better than Henne, even at his "advanced" age, not too worried about Henne, although he did look good on Sunday. He'll need to show me he can be consistently good to make me worry about him.

2. Bush splitting out wide. Who can guard him?
Bush has talent, but not to a point that it causes me a lot of worry.

3. Devon Bess and Brandon Marshall
Bess is a possession type, so not too concerned about him. Marshall is a beast, though and must be accounted for. He's their best player on offense, so he will have our attention.

4. Can our defense play another game like they did last week?
Fair question, no doubt. It's obviously yet to be seen, but I think most of us are optimistic. We have a load of talented players on D, and they are giving a ton of effort, so I think they will make some good things happen.

Bush can do some damage to this defense, but remember last time we played him and NO he was pretty much a non-factor, and Mario had a great game.

I think Marshall is the one that concerns me the most. I expect him to have some good stats when it's all said and done. Hopefully we can limit a majority of their offense to some good stats from him and that's it.

If this were last year, I would be worried about our run defense against Brown/Williams. Thankfully, the Dolphins put my mind at ease this offseason. I really want to see Reggie try and run between the tackles and be greeted by Mr. Watt. (Or Mario...that guy might have something to say in regards to Reggie thanking "all those guys who passed" on him years ago).

Not sure why folks continue to view Bush as some ultra elite receiving threat. Over his career his average ypr - 7.3. For comparison, let's say Arian Foster 9.4. Heck Slaton has averaged 8.3 and Ward 8.2. In Bush's top receiving year he produced 164 yards less than Foster last year. Yes he busts off highlight plays a few times a year but he is not a consistent threat.

I personally think that we should go the direct opposite of what the Pats did to them. The Texans need to slow down the pace of the game, carry the rock, and keep the Dolphins offense off the field. I know that we can control the line of scrimmage, it is just grinding it out that was the problem last week. Get that fixed, and this will be another awesome game for the Texans! I don't see the defense dropping off any, especially riding this high. Is there room for a let down? I would say yes, but is our team going to let it happen? I would say no to that, they looked like a more matured team compared to previous seasons.

This is what I hope they do too, especially if Foster is back. Let Foster and Tate share the rock and wear down the phins defense and keep their offense off the field. Control and domination is the name of the game! :whip:

Not sure why folks continue to view Bush as some ultra elite receiving threat. Over his career his average ypr - 7.3. For comparison, let's say Arian Foster 9.4. Heck Slaton has averaged 8.3 and Ward 8.2. In Bush's top receiving year he produced 164 yards less than Foster last year. Yes he busts off highlight plays a few times a year but he is not a consistent threat.

That's because defensive coordinators stay up at night thinking up new ways to focus their entire defense on stopping him.

Sounds good, but may be exactly what they want teams to do. After watching film on them from last year, BB might have found their strength is their speed, they try to get you going horizontal (like the ZBS) and flock to the ball.

So he went vertical... they have no pass rush, Brady was literally camping out behind his line. With that kind of time, the best Corners can only do so much & the LBs don't appear to understand zone coverage....... I saw several times where they were covering the same zone, the way the Texans used to.

I think our receivers & TEs are going to have career days.

Perhaps. They have a good secondary and pretty good LBs, but no pressure by the DL means all day for Schaub.

I expect Daniels to tear it up quite nicely.

You can't make that up. The Texans ought to carve them up and spit em out this Sunday. Then we can see who gets fired next Monday.

Wow. Cutting a guy on WEEK ONE after the Dolphins coach fails at engaging in a shoot-out with the Patriots? Pretty sad.

Thanks for cutting one of your starting CBs. And thanks for creating a weird vibe in the locker room, too. After losing to the Pats, having expended a lot of emotional energy during the whole thing, and after the coach had cut a starting CB in order to make a "statement" to his team??? How do you recover from that, as a team?

Not saying it's impossible...but Sparano (IMO) did him and his team no favors by trying to out-gun the Patriots AND then by cutting one of his starting CBs to make a statement. Reeks of desperation.

What scares me about the Dolphins is Henne's ability to run the ball.

We are a fast pursuing defense now, QB draws work pretty well against that, and Henne is pretty fast and he can throw also.

I realize that Chad Henne just had a career game (in a convincing loss at home). But, he's still the guy who's more likely to throw a ninterception than a TD pass. He's still the guy that the Dolphins tried so hard to replace in the offseason.

Maybe I'm still drunk from Sunday's koolaid (tastes great), but I can't see Chad Henne beating this Wade Phillips defense with zip for a running game. Mario Williams versus Jake Long looks like a classic matchup. But, I think RT Marco Columbo will see more of Mario than Jake will.

Boy, this article from the MIAMI HERALD is worth reading in its entirety. It virtually reads that they have so many problems, that they will have to mostly study their own film (rather than ours) to try to even correct some. Some of their coach's statements sound like they were stolen from Kubiak's classic post game comments.

Agree.
I sat by and watch Reggie play for Saints and stats tell the story. The kid is way talented but inconsistent.
In the game against the Patriots he was not even a factor down within the goal line. Even with 9 catches he did not even break 100 yards.

I agree with this. If our special teams can put them on the 20 or so... what are the odds that he'll lead the team on an 80 yard drive?

I almost want to agree, but two things:

1. We've only seen our defense play four quarters against an offense in complete disarray...I'm not saying our defense can't/will not be that badass again, but do we really know? We still have KJax back there and he needs to prove more... But I did see some holes in that Dolphins O-Line, but do not know how that'll translate to the Texans 3-4/5-2 thing they do... Hopefully it translates horribly....... for Miami ha...

2. Henne actually impressed me... I must say, after watching both Orton and Henne play Monday night, the Dolphin fans that chanted for Orton and booed Henne this camp need to send their apologies... I can see this guy leading his team down the field if the Texans give him enough... I won't say he will, but I think it's in him... He's got good eyes and decent placement... But like our defense, he needs to prove he can do it consistently...

This game has a "trap" feel to it for the Texans... But overall I'll say Texans by 3 because my koolaid cup's half-full...

It looks like the game will be locally blacked out.........the first time for the Phins since 1998. There are more than 10,000 tickets unsold as of today, and there is little chance they will be sold before the 72 hour deadline.

Local companies might step up and buy them, it's not that uncommon so who knows?

Oh well if they win, but don't see the victory, we can always say we're still undefeated against them. :)

I think Annheiser Busch and Stephen Ross combined to buy up the rest of the tickets to keep the game from being blacked out.

Dolphins, sponsors buy up unsold tickets to avoid blackout
(http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/15/dolphins-sponsors-buy-up-unsold-tickets-to-avoid-blackout/)

The Miami Dolphins’ 102-game regular-season sellout streak has been extended to 103 games.

According to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post, the Dolphins are “robo-calling” season-ticket holders to let them know that the game will be televised locally (as if the season-ticket holders care, they’re going to the game anyway).

Per Volin, 10,000 tickets remained unsold as of Thursday morning. But the team and its sponsors bought the unsold seats. According to league policy, the team can purchase the tickets at 34 cents on the dollar.

And here’s why the season-ticket holders should care. They’re getting the extra tickets.

Specifically, season-ticket holders in the 100 and 400 levels will get two free tickets. Season-ticket holders in the club level will receive four. Season-ticket holders in the luxury suites will have eight.

We’d prefer that some of the tickets be given to folks who can’t afford to buy them, or to local military personnel. (Then again, folks who can’t afford to buy tickets also can’t afford $10 beer and $6 soda.)

The Dolphins’ last regular-season blackout came in October 1998. A playoff game in 2000 also was not televised locally.

The Dolphins lines are bigger than the Colts.
This will be a good test for both our running game and defense.

We'd better be stout in the middle; I would hate to see Bush breaking a long one on us.
We don't have the big bodies on the interior like the Pats.

Of course, Bush can always break one on the outside, too.

I'm afraid this won't be an easy game for us!
I hope the offennse play light out so that the game doens't go down to the wire.

I hear what you're saying about our defense, but my comment was more to the, "I don't trust Henne to lead an offense 80 yards on a regular basis" Most teams can't do it.

That's why field position is so important.
