Didn't see a thread on this. I saw Brandon Merriweather and Will Allen cut. Perhaps worth a look? And which punters are on the market?

Someone posted in the NFL forum that Brandon Tate was cut by the Patriots. He could make a good KR and save Manning for playing D.

if merriweather can catch a ball, then quickly kick it really high and far (shorter on request), I'll take him...

IŽd be ecstatic if we could get Meriweather... other than that a punter and perhaps some D-Line help...

Take a look at dumping Bulman and grabbing Olshansky.

Take a look at grabbing Merriwether and dumping Barber.

Take a look at putting Carmichael on IR and grabbing Tate (or some other WR that's good and been cut loose.) I get worried only having 4 WRs.

I would not bring in olshansky over bulman.

I would love to have Brandon Tate here. I loved what i saw from him last year, but maybe having Brady throwing to him made him look better than he actually was.

Dallas cut CB/S/KR Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. He was with Wade last year, and had a lot of fans on this board back in the 2010 draft.

Merriweather would be the best safety on the texans team plus he's on a rookie contract. Donnie avery is also on a rookie deal, but has injury issues. Those are the two I would claim off waivers and dump 2 players from the texans. Keo and someone else.

My bad, but I'm saying that merriweather despite his off field stuff is better than any saftey they have, plus he's still on his rookie deal. I would cut barber, nolan, or whomever.

merriweather blows from everything ive heard about him... ignore his probowl. it was of the will demps variety of probowl decisions

fwiw ive read that olshanksy is a total prick too. very high maintenance- which isnt exactly what u want from a backup o-lineman

LZ has been pimping Marcus Harrison, DT with the Bears, who was cut today.

I'd go for Tate, Harrison and either the P from Pitt or Az.

News: Harrison left Saturday's game against the Bills with a shoulder stinger. (Sun Aug 14)

Spin: The injury isn't considered serious, but it certainly isn't going to help Harrison with getting off the roster bubble.

Uh oh, this does not look good:
Harrison, a third-round draft pick in 2008, showed up for training camp out of shape for the second time in three summers. Harrison was caught in a numbers crunch and would have been the sixth defensive tackle. Considering he was entering the final year of his contract, the Bears couldn't keep a player who wasn't motivated to show up for the season ready to play.

I wouldnt be opposed to bringing DA back since Denver cut him .... let him clear waivers and work out a cheap deal.

Once you're cut, you're not on any contract, unless you're picked up during the waiver process. I'm assuming these guys would clear waivers with their high-priced contract and then negotiate as free agents. If their contract was economical, I doubt they would have been cut.

Yes. As a big body to stuff the middle. Might allow them to move Cody to DE.

Is Merriweather better than Manning?

I read a lot of articles last year about Merriweather not being able to cover. He was also involved(or just present) when a shooting occurred sometime last year too.

Also found it interesting in the Boston Herald they said he was their last remaining draft pick from the 2007 class. Pretty brutal class..

In the 2010 preseason, Cole suffered a "minor" ankle sprain. In October, he re-injured his ankle......this time a "high ankle" sprain which had him miss 6 games in November and December. Early this July, he underwent surgery for "high ankle" sprain on the same foot. He's been on the PUP all preseason. I am certain that he is in no shape (i.e., adequately rehabbed) to be useful this soon, and so he would have to start the season on PUP and not even be available until at least the 7th week of the season. Don't think this move would make much sense for a team that would be in need of his services "yesterday."

He was "primed" to be their top WR. He showed flashes early in his career but got hit with injuries and didnt play at all last season. I am definitely surprised they didnt at least give him a come back try this year as they paid a hefty price form him in the draft... so maybe something is up with his health, idk.

Maybe his cap number and coming off the ACL was the reason he was cut.

Yep, claimed off of waivers. No clue as to whether the Texans were interested, but the Bengals would have had the prior claim anyway.

Word is that the Pats released Steve Maneri. I know tackle isn't the OL position the Texans are light at, but who knows...

Good that they kept Braman as I'm purdy sure he'd be a goner....

Undrafted out of Clemson. Been cut by the Vikings in final cuts and now the Patriots.

Started at C and G for Clemson.

Knock on him is that he is a bit slow and a bit weak. Hopefully a year in a pro conditioning program might have fixed that.

That's just great, but we need him NOW! DRAFT PROFILE (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/564353) Center earlier years......left OG all senior year.
