Houston Texans left gaurd Kasey Studdard had ankle surgery on Friday. While Studdard projected as a backup for 2011 there has been no definite ruling on if Studdard will miss the entire NFL season or not. It is likely that due to the injury and the severity of the injury that Studdard will end up on injured reserve.

Coach gary Kubiak was quoted after last nights game as saying such, ”Actually Kasey’s gonna, it looks like he will not play this year. I don’t know. We’ll see, but he did have surgery and he’s well on his way to recovery.”

With last weeks high ankle sprain of back up guard Antoine Caldwell, Studdard’s surgery only compounds the situation. Historically the Texans have always ran up against health issues on the offensive line front and it doesn’t look to be shaping up to be any different this year.

Second year player Shelley Smith has been praised at times by Houston’s coaching staff, indicating that he’s a good fit for the team’s zone-blocking scheme. Although Smith looked very unimpressive during last nights game, for the time being will likely move into the back-up role behind Mike Brisiel and Wade Smith.

Houston Texans fans should hope for an expeditive recovery of Antoine Caldwell’s ankle and quite possibly look for the Texans to add a guard once roster cuts begin.

I know Kasey's not loved by everyone on this board, but he's pretty special to me personally because of the role he played in the Longhorn's magical 2005 season. I also think his angry determination compensates for a great deal of his physical shortcomings and his attitude is contagious.

Get well soon, brother!

I saw him at the airport and took the same flight in early June . We were both heading to Denver along with a Ranger in the Army . Had a pretty good feeling about the safety of the flight .
