I am truly thankful that we have football this year. For a while it looked like we might not. But with the Texans first preseason game in the books, from a fan perspective it has now officially begun.

The Texans squeaked out a W while a number of starters sat out or played short minutes. There were some good highlights, especially from some of the younger players. Looks like there may be some really tough choices on player cuts this year.

Defense:

The defense generated seven sacks and gave up only 16 points. There was only one Jets TD pass, and that was 2-yarder by McLeroy, which is a stark contrast to the aerial performances that the Texans secondary routinely allowed last season. All things considered, this was a pretty impressive introduction for a new defensive coach switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 over a shortened offseason.

Offense:

The offense generated 221 total yards, including 42 on the ground. Where was the Texans running attack? Arian Foster and Ben Tate were in street clothes, and Steve Slaton had no stats. I thought Slaton was supposed to be looking strong and was ahead of Ogbonnaya on the depth chart? You would not have known it from watching the game last night. Ogbonnaya had 17 carries and Derrick Ward had only 2. According to the stats, Slaton had none.

Lester Jean looked very sharp. Hopefully we will get to see more of Dickerson over the next three games. Yates did not look bad in his NFL debut, but Leinart and Schaub looked kind of shaky. Three sacks. I would have to say the offense looked pretty rough and they obviously have some work to do if they want to be ready by opening day.

Derrick Ward got 2 carries because he injured himself on the 2nd carry.

The pass rush was as advertised. Cant say enough about those guy's.

The secondary almost resembled a functional part of an NFL calibur defense .... aside from missed tackles but they did contest a lot of balls.

Im not at all concerned with the offense , it'll take them a while to get it together .... and they didnt suit AJ or AF while Ward , Schaub , OD and Walter saw limited action.

Casey looked pretty good .... as did Vickers. Nope , they arent Vonta but they did their jobs.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the offense (except for guys getting hurt.)

I like what I saw from Watt and Reeds (Reeds still needs some work but he's retlentless.)

Demeco moves around well, that's important!
Barwin shows fluidity in his movement, that's good!

Mitchell and Sharpston continue to improve.
Nading shows he can have a plcae on the team.
Jamison makes his case, so did Bulman.

#50 had a good game.

I will hate the time we need to make the roster cut!

Our defense SHOULD have won the battle. We barely ekked this one out. 7 sacks was great but I'm not going to be blinded by that gaudy stat against a terrible offensive team. Even then, Sanchez killed us with the post (or are they called slants?) routes.

On the plus side, putting up 20 points on that Rex Ryan-led defense was great to see. We are the KING of the play action no matter who's under center.

Bread and Butter. It is unstoppable (at least by the opponent)
