View Full Version : NFL Preseason Game(s) Week 1 (Non-Texans)
So I'm watching Chargers vs Seahawks in about 30 minutes and I've got the Ravens/Eagles on a stream. I figure this is a good place to discuss as any riiiiight?
Eagles rookie kicker nails the KO 8 yards deep on the Ravens. Great leg. Lets see Aso in green/white.

How are you watching that game?
Ravens moving the ball with passes to the RB and TE. Eagles safety play isn't all that hot.

Eagles D-line is pretty good with Trent Cole and Cullen Jenkins.
Having 3 CB's that are really good seems to work enough to give the Dline time to find the QB. The checkdown throws looked kinda wide open (Questions with Eagles LB corps) but big throws and runs looked like they went nowhere.
Cundiff good for a 53yarder. 3-0 Ravens.
All the kickers are booting the balls out of the endzone (I'm guessing due to the new kickoff placement?). Kinda takes out 1/2 of special teams. Mike Vick to the field.
2 Vick passes, 2 Vick completions, Good for 1 Vick first downs, Vick Vick Vick Vick Vick Vick. . .
edit: Whoops.
I thought the Ravens played in the 34 more than they did the 43. They are doing lots of 43 looks on this first drive (not helping much, Vick is like 3 for 4.
E: Eagles have the ball on like the 2 with a fresh set of downs.
Eagles have yet to run a running play (I think).

War DREAM TEAM!!!!!!!!!
Philly with a TD (I wasn't watching). 7-3 Eagles up. They went up the field using the passing game both short and long, Ravens couldn't really stop it.
Joe Flacco likes passing to their TE Pitta (no. 88). He has soft hands so far, looks pretty good.
Eagles coverage is doing pretty good against Boldin and Some Guys. Dline gets a 3rd down sack for the Eagles.

Good to see. I liked him coming out of BYU. I would have wanted him if we hadn't already had 12335134123 TE on the roster.
After watching 2 series with the Ravens offense you can tell that the Eagles secondary is having a fairly easy time covering the outside guys, giving the Dline a lot of time.
Vince Young mode: ENGAGED.
Tavaris Jackson doesn't look that bad QB'ing the seahawks.
Vince young comes in for the Eagles, they run the ball 5 straight times. Ringing endorsement there.
Charger defense looks really soft against the 'Hawks. THey can run and throw with impunity right now.

DTQBVY fussing on the sideline?
VY Runs for a first down on 3rd and 6. Good job sausageman.
I think Young got sacked by the Ravens but I was watching the Chargers game.
VY has now thrown some good passes to wide open guys.
Philip Rivers's deep ball is amazing.
Eagles do not look very formidable running the ball.
Chargers also have a great passing game, but it looks like the running game isn't all that. It seems all the games are having passing fiestas right now.
Apparently Matt Turk had a 15 yard punt in the Jags/Pats game. You go old man!
These new kickoff rules blow and I hope they are changed back before the regular season starts. Just putting that out there.
Funky piece of trivia:
The Eagles DC is their former O-line coach. wha?

Pollard just destroyed VY.
And Tyrod Taylor just got picked off by JaQuan Jarrett.
Tyrod Taylor showin Vick and Young how it's done lol.
Tyrod Taylor showin Vick and Young how it's done lol.
By throwing terrible passes.
Chad Hall is a receiver for the Eagles, he was out there with the ones as well as the reserves.
He is 5'8" tall and weighs about a buck fifty. Has a couple of receptions too.
Mike Kafka looking much better than Young did.

Haha! I didn't see that! Good to hear he is back in midseason form :kitten:
Apparently, J-Ville's O-line is playing very very terribly and is not doing any favors to Blaine Gabbert. Also, Matt Turk sucks at punting lol.

Pats 2 backup QBs looked good.
Don't like the look of Gabbert's motion.

What was it of Gabberts motion you didn't like? Most of the people who watched him thought he looked decent, but wilted in the face of a pass rush.

If they can't protect their rookie QB then why not have Matt Turk punting out of a 5 wide set on all 4 downs, might be the offensive revolution the NFL's been waiting for.

Matt Turk, at one point last night, had punted twice for 25 yards total.
lol
Watching Jags/Pats game now. Will have thoughts on Blaine Gabbert.
EDIT: First drive, Gabbert looked fine, decent release decision making wasn't too terrible. The sack looked like sloppy footwork on his part. Overall I'd be happy with the pick so far.
Second drive, an "off" throw that either the receiver ran the wrong route or he threw it wrong. Good protection, ball was about 5 yards away from the receiver up high. So far the Jags receiving corps are only magnifying his errant throws cause they haven't done him any favors.
3rd drive he had a good throw and a sack where almost the whole O-line got beaten. little shaky here but still okay, doesn't look like the rest of the offense is doing much to make him look better than he is.
4th drive, another errant pass. Looks like the ball came out a lot faster than the receiver was expecting. meh.

Nate Solder looks amazing, he's sooo fast for a LT, on a sweep he out ran the RB though and it got him tackled too soon haha. My only knock so far is that he seems to end up on the ground more than I'd like
Not a good game by Blaine but you can see why they drafted him.

Tell him don't get excited about dogging out the worse QB since HWWNBN. That's not a real game.

Did anyone see Brent Grimes pick against Henne?
Bad ass.
Dude is playing about 2 yards off the WR. At the snap, he runs to the LOS, as if he expects a quick throw from Henne. Henne sees Grime screwed up, so he lobs it to the receiver who is now not covered.
Grimes got back.. not fast enough, but he jumped like 10 feet in the air to pluck the ball out of the air.
I feel sorry for the Falcon's other CB, he's going to get tested a lot.

Dunta Robinson? lol
Also, Jake Locker looks pretty damn good for a rook.

I've only seen a few plays, and he looked pretty nice out there (but he was playing against the 2nd stringers). Had a pretty good looking 45 yard TD.
What did you see from him?

He looked good, but the Vikings may be the worst team in the NFL this year.

No way, that honor is going to the Bengals.
Honorable mention: 49ers
Bengals, 49ers, Seahawks, Bills, Dolphins, Raiders, Vikings, Redskins, Panthers, and Titans.
My Top 10 Worst Teams, and in no particular order.
Though if I had to make a guess:
1. Bengals
2. Raiders
3. Titans
4. Seahawks
5. 49ers
6. Bills
7. Panthers
8. Dolphins
9. Vikings
10. Redskins
Bengals, Raiders, Titans, Seahawks are interchangeable in the Top 4 spots based on sheer luck of how they finish the season out.
The next tier down is the 49ers, Bills, Panthers, and Dolphins.
Vikings and Redskins could conceivably find a way to win enough games to stay off the bottom of the barrel somehow. Depends on if McNabb finds a way to use Adrian Peterson or not. Adrian Peterson could go psycho and just stop caring, though. Vikings DO have a chance to be the worst in 2011, actually. Yikes.

No Jags thrown in there?
No Jags thrown in there?
Could probably put them right around 10 or so but its tough to say since we know that offense looks bad without MJD.

Ex-Texans preseason review:
Amobi Okoye came up with 2 sacks vs the Bills 2nd team O-line.
Ravens rushing attack never got going with Vonta Leach on the field (RBs 12 yards on 7 carries).
Bernard Pollard came awy with 2 tackles and a pick against Eagles reserves.
David Anderson gets 3 catches for 38 yards vs Cowboys.
Zach Diles makes 2 tackles for Rams in the 2nd half of Indy rout.
Pats Mark Anderson gets one assist and a QB hurry vs Jags.
No Jags thrown in there?
Garrard makes them a non-Top 10 Worst team.
He isn't brilliant or anything, but he can win games. MJD is still viable, too, and the WRs were better last year (sort of a whole new crop of guys) than the previous few years combined.

The Titans have a very good Oline, great RB and Hasselback (sp?) isn't horrible. If the defense plays above average they will be better than people think.

They get CJ back I don't see how they are worse than the Jags right now.
Titans are going to suck.
Chris Johnson is good. But he is stoppable. Their passing game does not strike fear, and hassleback is not a game changer. Their defense isn't all that either.
Jags and titans will be at the bottom of this division.
Lots of teams have good players and good areas of their teams, but some teams do suck. The titans and jags are two of them.

i think hasselback makes the titans dangerous.. not in the grand scheme of thhings but in us maybe losing a game to them this season. nice upgrade from collins (who still used to beat us occassionally). luckily, were not playing them til week 7 & 17 which means hasselback will be out injured if the last few seasons are anything to go by

Dolphins are still my pick to be the worst. They're starters were getting used and abused by Atlanta on both sides of the ball. For every 2.5 passes that Henne completed, there was an interception. They have no sense of a run game right now without Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. Their defense was quickly figured out by Matt Ryan and Co. after their initial 3-and-out, and it started to resemble NES Tecmo Bowl.
Miami Dolphins schedule:
1 New England - L
2 Houston - L
3 @ Cleveland - L
4 @ San Diego - L
5 BYE WEEK - LOL
6 @ New York Jets - W
7 Denver - L
8 @ New York Giants - L
9 @ Kansas City - L
10 Washington - L
11 Buffalo - W
12 @ Dallas - L
13 Oakland - W
14 Philadelphia - L
15 @ Buffalo - L
16 @ New England - L
17 New York Jets - L
3-13. Should be good enough for Luck, especially with the loss to the Skins.

Don't sleep on the Titans. They're better than you think..... they're always better than we think.
I know they've got some challenges, but it's a veteran team, full of professionals. They have just as many reasons to believe they'll go deep into the play-offs as we have..... plus they've actually done it once or twice.
Their schedule is much easier than ours (.488 vs .516).
Their first 4 games are Jacksonville, Baltimore, Denver, Cleveland... they can realistically start the season 3-1 & build off that momentum. Then they play Pittsburgh, then us. They can be 3-2 & we can be 3-3 when we meet... with everyone talking about firing Kubiak, worst defense, blah, blah, blah...
We'll be booing our guys, ruining their confidence.. we lose at home. They'll be 4-2 going to play a questionable Indy team & we'll be 3-4 (that's a home game for them).
I'm just saying, don't sleep on the Titans.

He's the best QB they've had since Air McNair. If his body can hold up, the Titans can have a great year.
