Yup, I totally bought into the Okoye hype. After watching Patrick Willis in person for two years I knew he was going to be a perennial pro-bowler and I still supported the Okoye pick to pair next Mario. :baarrff:

If my old memory serves me right you were the one hyping Willis here well before that draft.

But I do often get my facts mixed up.

Oh, and I did have high hopes for Carr. Took me too long to see the light.

1) Charles Spencer.

I was so sure he would be the LT for the next 10 years. Sadly, he didn't even make it 10 plays.

Dayne! :wadepalm:

2) Tony Hollings, I really believed he was the back we needed.

3)Jerome Mathis: I heavily drank the Mathis Koolaid.

JJ Moses was my favorite player in that time frame. Loved the dude. He's a Texans Ambassador now if I'm not mistaken.

Fred Bennett was my favorite pick of that 07 draft from the moment he picked off Tony Romo in the preseason. I was sure he would be good.

The player I thought would be special is Owen Daniels starting from the moment we drafted him. Injuries aside, he has not disappointed. My all time favorite Texan from 06-present.

David Carr, would have been interesting to see if I or others were correct if he had had a decent LT.

Jacoby last year I had him going to pro bowl. Hopefully, I just was a year early.

Close to TPN's with a couple of modifications

There are others I wasn't sure about but had high hopes for.

-David Carr had an absolute CANNON. I rememeber one of the earliest Texans games, a receiver had gone uncovered and Carr threw a 40 yard laser and hit the guy in the hands on the goal line...he dropped it and was immediately signed to a 7 year deal im sure.

-Cory Bradford, maybe not special but at least be able to catch the bombs Carr would throw out there. Hands of stone.

-Jerome Mathis after he made the Pro Bowl. The guy had 4.2 speed.

-Seth Payne, didnt he go to harvard? Id like to have him back playing NT

-Vernand Morency, traded for Samkon Gado

-Dominic Davis, I have a 37 jersey, I was stoked when talk of Arian Foster got going at the start of last season bc I thought I might get to bring it out again bc he wore 37 his rookie year...then he changes to 23 lol

Fred
08-02-2011, 09:16 PM
And P Burnt. Was yoked over that trade...

This mine. He was so good, even a genius like Casserly had to give up a 2nd and a 3rd for him. Aaron Glenn demanded to be cut or traded because there was no way he would get playing time.

I actually jumped out of my seat with excitement when Houston drafted Bennie Joppru... :wadepalm:

I thought "WTF? Jason Witten is still on the board and is better."

Alex Gibbs and Charley freaking Casserly (HEY!)

Now that is just evil.

This thread is depressing as all get out.

Probably the worst thread since Al Gore invented the Internet. Probably even since Gutenberg invented the printing press.

im gonna have to go with Tony Hollings :wadepalm:

Even if he would have been the best ever this was a stupid way to pick him in the supplemental draft. The Texans used Oakland's second round pick (#31 in the round) to pick him in the supplemental draft. The Texans own third round pick was #3 in the round. We burned a second round pick when only 3 teams were picking before our next pick. As it turned out, our record was better than Oakland's the next year so that 31st pick in the second round would have been about the 5th pick in the second pick - our third round pick was 9th in the round - Vernand Morency.

Robaire Smith stands out for me personally. When he signed that 6 yr/26 million dollar contract I thought he was going to be a force.

When we got Philip Buchanan I was confident he and Dunta would grow into the premier corner tandem in the league. It's funny how quickly that went sideways.

Wali Lundy had a couple good games early in 2006 that had me thinking he might turn out to be decent. Nope.
