I heard this on the radio, but the hosts were mad at the guy who reported it. 'Carted off the field' is very different from 'riding a golf cart off the field'. Supposedly it was just a hand issue, nothing with his legs or that high ankle sprain from last year.

After injurying 6 tendons in my left hand on two different occasions... no, I would not. In fact, I'd probably welcome the ACL. It is amazing how little someone can get done with injured hands. Its even pretty degrading sometimes.

If it's a hand he will probably not miss Week 1. He could be back as soon as 2 weeks, but 4 weeks is most likely. Wrist would have been longer, finger would hve been less.

After texans practice we will find out what happened to andre johnson, who came down on his hand going for ball

McClain_on_NFL John McClain
Johnson was bumped after colliding with rookie CB Roc Carmichael. Johnson came up shaking his hand and pulling on a finger.

McClain_on_NFL John McClain
First, Johnson left the field pulling on a finger. Then he went to dressing room. I figure he got an x-Ray.

After injurying 6 tendons in my left hand on two different occasions... no, I would not. In fact, I'd probably welcome the ACL. It is amazing how little someone can get done with injured hands. Its even pretty degrading sometimes.

Depends on What exactly youre doing with the hand :)

Moss retired-no playing for him.

You know the one name I have not heard around here is Steve Smith (Giants) he's still a free agent...

His "retiring" is code word for saying he would come back and play for the right offer.

It was bloody. Dislocated or compound fractured? I notice today's Comical photo essay shows him catching a ball with bare hands and his gloves in his helmet looking like a frilled lizard or something. I could link it but I'm too lazy.

Don't tell me he got hurt farting around without wearing his gloves. This gets the Florida Tag just because that's where he's from. Either it's the Florida tag or the Karankawa curse, take your pick cuz we all know there's a curse.

I love how AJ is awesome and doesnt talk yet he has almost every reporter around him, while Eric Winston will rant for an hour if you ask him what his favorite color is, and he has one person trying to talk to him lol. And that guy is probably asking him about Dre bc he couldnt get through the crowd.

And on a side note, I love the replacements. Keanu Reeves' best performance of his career.

In the pictures it looked like the blood was more around the middle knuckle of his finger.

I dont know if that makes any difference, only when I first heard I pictures the knuckle where the finger connects to the hand. If it was the middle one doesnt that constitute as a break?

Here's the updated info (http://texans.studiotigaapps.net/transcripts/august-2,-2011-pm-practice.aspx).

Head Coach Gary Kubiak
(on WR Andre Johnson's injury) "He's fine. He dislocated his finger obviously, so we took him to the hospital this morning. He's back, has it bandaged up and probably is going to miss a day or two of practice until we make sure there's no infection and it calms down. He's fine. He's going to be okay."

(on if he is relieved that WR Andre Johnson will be back practicing in a couple days) "Very much so. I wasn't over there so I was concerned about what had happened. I think we got lucky."

(on if there are any thoughts on keeping WR Andre Johnson out longer for safety) "They say he's fine and he can go. Andre (Johnson) can go tomorrow, knowing how he is. I'll just listen to the doctors and when he's ready to go, he'll go. It's an opportunity for these younger guys to take some reps."

WR Andre Johnson
(on if his dislocated finger scared him) "It wasn't scary, it's just a dislocated finger, I've had worse. I don't think I'm worried about a finger keeping me from missing anything."

(on the timeframe for him to catch passes again) "It'll just be a couple of days because my bone broke the skin, so it'll be a couple of days, I didn't have to get any stitches or anything like that. Soon as I felt it pop, I felt it out of place and I popped it right back in. I didn't know the bone had broke the skin until I took my glove off so I really wasn't in a lot of pain or anything like that. It was just more concern about the bleeding and everything like that. I went and got it checked out and everything is fine so once it heals I'll be right back out there."

(on the pass that dislocated his finger) "The ball just hit the tip of my finger and I didn't realize it at first; I just went to make a fist and my index finger didn't feel normal so when I looked at it looked kind of crazy and I just popped it back in."

(on the news that he was carted off the field) "I heard about that when I got back to the stadium I was eating lunch and saw it on ESPN that I was carted off the field and stuff like that. I had a lot of text messages and people asking me if I was ok. I'm fine, it's just a finger. I've played with a bum ankle I don't think a finger will keep me out I'm just letting it heal up."

AJ should do fine overall. Because he had an "open" dislocation even though a small skin break, infection is a risk. The classic time of infection presentation is between the 3rd and 5th day following injury. If he avoids this, it is unlikely that a later infection ensues. He will probably have his finger splinted for ~ 3-6 weeks if splinted straight or <3 weeks if splinted flexed depending on the exact nature and extent of the injury. Continued pain and subtle problems with function can be present for a year or more. The main concern AJ would have as an athlete is that re-dislocation in the future is not uncommon.

I dislocated my right pinkie when I was 15. Reached for a football, the guy moved it and my pinkie jammed into his rib area...plink! my pinkie dislocated.

Had to go to an orthopedic in Lubbock where they x-ray'd it first to make sure nothing was broken. Wasn't, so they shot me up and snapped it back into place.

I'm 35 now, and it is weak as hell. If I reach for something wrong and torque the pinkie a bit, it lets me know "Don't do that again, please!" Even in normal flexing of it, I can sense it's weaker than the rest of my fingers.

No big "pain," but there's a decrease in stability for sure. I guess those ligaments got stretched to a point they shouldn't have. Then again, it was 45 minutes before my mom came and got me. Another 45 to get to Lubbock. And about 10 or 15 minutes of x-ray, and about 10 minutes to shoot up and get it popped back in place.

That's about 2 hours with it being in a zig-zagging formation and hurting like hell. AJ popped his in pretty quickly, IIRC, so I wonder if that helps him out. He's also lucky it was on his left hand.

Some small amount of residual dysfunction is always possible. Significant long term instability due to ligament stetching/damage is most common after cases of delayed reduction of the dislocated finger or in those that involve difficult reduction. Certainly, repeated dislocations become worrisome as they are a set up for further damage to and/or deformity of the joint/finger. These are examples of history that can lead to unacceptable instability or functionality, with subsequent need for surgical reconstruction.

What? You don't read my posts?

I've posted several times that I'd like to get Smith in here even though there are some Qs about his health. I expect him to go back to the Giants, though. And I'm not sure we've got the cap space for him.

Not the case at all-I guess I missed it somehow.

I've just seen the excitement about other players (Moss, Edwards, etc) and nothing about Smith. I think he'd be a great pick up for a year.

Jesus. When I heard about it Pallilo was cracking wise saying they had "located" his finger. I really thought he had somehow LOST a finger.

So I'm feeling a lot better about a dislocation! We know where Andre will be on gameday so hopefully they let him have time to heal up before then. Besides, is anyone in the history of ever TOUGHER than Andre Johnson?
