I heard an interview on the radio with Joe Mauer from the Twins and he said "You know" or "um" or both in every single sentence he said. It's a horribly rampant problem not only in professional sports (where it's super awful) but in real life. The other thing that makes me want to punch people in the neck is constant use of "like" in a sentence that isn't comparing anything or speaking of an affection for something. You know...like...um...tacos!

That being said...I don't expect them to speak like they're giving the State of the Union. I just want them to keep offenses from scoring.

I don't know if I've EVER listened to a news conference that gave me nothing but useless dumb questions or useless dumb information from BOTH sides of the microphone. Our media must have been up all night think up their questions. And the two players must have used last year's left over script given to them by their equally dumb agents. It's a shame that this will be the last thing most fans remember until they prove their worth on the field.

Let me say that in no way am I defending the local media types... but I am curious.

What questions would you guys have liked to have answered? I see a lot of complaining about the lack of substance in the presser - and you're right it was terribly underwhelming - but no one has yet posted, "Why the crap didn't they ask so-and-so this...?" and go on to say what they wanted/expected to hear.

I would have liked to hear an answer to, "Have you studied Peyton Manning and how do you intend to stop him from connecting to Reggie Wayne?"
or... "Have you reviewed the Texans' schedule and if so, which team(s) 'worries' you the most and why?"

There has been talk about your lack of this or that, can you speak about your perceived weaknesses in that area?

What was THE most important thing you learned while playing with your former team?

What do you know about wade Phillips scheme?

What do you know about the db coach, Vance Joseph?

We are in a division where we face Peyton twice a year, are you prepared for that challenge?

I dunno. . .anything is better than "were you a cowboys fan or texans fan"?

Joseph

(on if there was an offer from his previous team to keep him) It was a competitive offer but at the end of the day, you have to weigh all the options. You know, what your team has in play. You know the starting quarterback, an all-pro quarterback, Pro Bowlers, best receiver in the NFL, great tight end, leading rusher from last year. Look at the D-line. Youve got guys on the D-line that are all-pro players, DeMeco Ryans, Bryan Cushing. Just a chance to be an addition to that defense says a lot for me as part of this team. It was a no-brainer for me.

I liked this statement from Joseph :)

How about questions about the FA process, were the Texans your first pick? How were you approached by Texans, did they mention Asomugha being a sticking point on signing?

X's and O's questions would've been great too, maybe something along the lines of "How do you feel knowing you are going to have to cover Reggie Wayne/Dallas Clark, what do you think you can bring to the table in that area that we don't have? Can you tell us some things you noticed our secondary doing last year that you can help fix? What are those?

"Were you a fan of the Texans or Cowboys" is not anything that anybody should give a rat shit about ever.

From the transcript of the interview...

S Danieal Manning
(Opening statement) Hows everybody doing? Im Danieal Manning and Im very excited to be here in my home state of Texas, back home in Houston. Im around a lot of familiar faces and this has been very exciting, this whole process. Unfortunately, it was a long process with the lockout and all that, but Im glad things are starting to roll in a way that we can have a good season. This looks like the Houston Texans are going to be fighting really hard and getting in the playoffs.

CB Johnathan Joseph
(Opening statement) Im Johnathan Joseph. Im not a fellow Houston(onian) or a fellow Texan guy, but Im from South Carolina. Like Danieal said, Im just happy to be here and happy to be part of this situation that the Houston Texans have going on, and I think with the addition of both of us I think were moving in the right direction and adding pieces to the puzzle to be a contender for years to come. Im just happy to be a part of this process and thankful for the opportunity to be here.

Danieal Manning
(on what he can bring to the team) For myself, I feel like experience is number one. I played in several big games, including the Super Bowl, we played there. You guys around here know a lot about Peyton Manning. I have my experience with him in the Super Bowl and things like that. Number two would be my versatility; what I can bring as a safety and as far as covering guys, my range that I have and tackling ability. In special teams, being a returner. I feel like I can bring a spark to the team and give us great field position there. Like I said earlier, getting us into the playoffs.

Johnathan Joseph
(on what he can bring to the team) I think I bring a proven veteran player to this team. They have a lot of young talent back in the back end and on defense as well, and I think with the addition, you can never have enough talent. I think by the addition of us, proven veteran players, as (Manning) said, he had played into the Super Bowl and Ive had a chance to play into the playoffs as well. Bringing that experience along for the rest of these guys, and just helping everyone else get to the next level, which is the ultimate goal, I think is a plus for this Houston Texans organization.

(on what persuaded him to come to the Texans) Myself as a player, I always like to follow other teams around the league and see what they have going on in their situations as well. This was my chance at free agency and once I looked and explored around the league, Id seen the Houston Texans had almost every piece to the puzzle, as far as offense and defense. They were just missing a couple of pieces in the back end, with the youth back there. To add a couple of veteran players, I think that was the first thing that lured me this way because if you put the pieces to the puzzle and they become the right puzzle, I think the sky is the limit. They could be contenders for years, and I think thats what we bring.

They need to be using "we" and "us" instead of "this" and "they" a bit more.

You guys are part of the team now. Let's go.
