View Full Version : What's the deal with signing draft picks

Okay so now that the whole Aso/JJ drama is over what is going on with our draft picks. Sunday is the first day of camp and they NEED to be there.

I'm just curious if anyone has heard what the deal is. I see alot of other teams signing their draft picks.

Are we possibly still in the bidding for another high profile player???

I think you've seen a lot of teams signing their draft picks a lot this week because today is the start of training camp for most of them out there. We still have until Sunday to get our people in before camp, so there's no sense of urgency when signing our picks.

I imagine Vonta is the priority right now and they are probably trying to scrounge up the necessary cash to get his deal done. Once that issue resolves itself our rookies will get signed in time for day 1 on Sunday. I highly doubt there are any other serious deals to be made but maybe there are some minimum salary depth signings coming.

In 2 hours and 12 mins Burress will be a Houston Texan. We're getting that out of the way first.

I was wondering too, but figured that being the Texans start training camp 2 days later than the rest of the league, we have a little more time

My thoughts were a toss up between this or money being tied up waiting on a Vonta signing or possibly they were looking at another FA.

It just seems to me that they usually sign their draft picks quicker than this.

We're lucky because we've got till Sunday. Some of the other teams were crunched because their training camps started so quick.

Practice starts Sunday, so they should have a deal done today. Not a problem yet.

Meh, we're one of the two teams that arethe last to report to camp. We're a day or two behind the rest of the league. It's basically a given salary, so he'll be there.

Btw, lovin the new rookie wages

Did you guys see what Newton signed for? Trading up to a #1 pick is actually feasible now.

I know McClain is saying that we won't have any problems getting our rookies signed, but camp starts tomorrow and unless I missed anything, we haven't signed any of our draft picks....

(which usually means that as soon as I post this, they'll be breaking news....)

It's 4:30pm Central time in Houston. Deals can happen at any time so I wouldn't be worried until our rookies aren't there tommorrow.

dont worry.. holdouts are a thing of the past. the skins signed all 7 of their rookies in 1 shot.. it'll likely come out in the next few hrs that they're already signed. rookie signings arent big news anymore

Got it. Can't wait to see JJ Watt, Harris and Reed on the field. Particularly Reed as an OLB. Dude had the fastest legs for a LB/DE in the first 10 yards of the 40 yard dash. That's all he needs to go to get to Peyton!

In fact, most teams have announced the signings this way, instead of that trickle thing like in the past.

I don't find it hard to believe he would be one of the first in line. This dude is serious about making our team and I think we are going to be pleased with him.

Is it time to start worrying? IŽd thought Watt would be one of the easiest 1st rounders to sign - now he is one of the last... we can`t afford to keep these guys even a day or two out of training camp...

The Houston Texans have finalized rookie deals for second-round outside linebacker Brooks Reed and fifth-round safety Shiloh Keo, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

And he's also in serious need of a positive cash flow - he and his wife are expecting a new family arrival very soon, actually in the next few weeks.

Texans agreed with OLB Brooks Reed (2nd round), CB Brandon Harris (2) and QB T.J. Yates (5th). Only DE J.J. Watt (first) remains unsigned.

Only JJ Watt remains to be signed among the draft picks. And of course Vonta Leach is still unsigned. Get these two and the Texans appear to be good to go.

SECOND UPDATE: Watt technically isn’t a holdout yet because the Texans don’t report until today. Multiple sources tell us that Watt is expected to sign today and participate in the first practice on Monday.

Even with all the draft picks signed we show only 82 players in camp. Did our FO not get the memo that the training camp rosters have expanded to 90?

I'd like to see:

at least 1 more QB
another P
another RB to keep wear and tear down
a couple of ILBs
someone on the OL
a FB
at least 1 more TE.
