Zero sum game. If he replaces Rackers, we lose our best tackler on Special Teams.

Wrong place to post unless we signed him. Cool beans on how far he can kick.

We signed him, he's a punter just to be clear in case anyone thought he was K. He just does Kickoffs.

Oh, well I hope his punts are as impressive as his kickoffs!

I like him for kickoff specialist! Heck Manning is going to have to start at the 20 yard line every drive now!

Video of his punting about 2.5 minutes in. His punts aren't half bad either! Check him out. This might be my favorite free agent signing so far. LOL

His stats aren't that impressive.

http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/brett-hartmann-1.html

54 punts for 2164 yards. 40.1 average. Turk's average was 42 yards last season.

Is that net or total?

Looks like total. The website doesn't have his net average. 40 yards won't cut it in the NFL.

If his kickoffs are good as they look like they are, id give up a couple yards per punt for automatic touchbacks.

We need a punter about as much as the Jets need to add Aso. There just isn't a reasonable answer.

Rofl, my bad. After I watched the first video I sort of skipped on all the replies under it.

Going to go ahead and throw out "The Hitman" nickname now, just in case he hangs around.

Turk wasnt very good last season .... and he's , shit he's older than me by a month. Can he really hold the job for another year ?!

I like it if for nothing other than competition to see if he can beat out Turk who likely costs considerably more (there's cap savings if he sticks)

You're gonna scrutinize a 2 yard punting difference average from an 18 year veteran punter to this kid from little known Central Michigan?!?! Imagine his potential with real NFL special team coaching!

That's the thing, a kid straight out of college can't even punt farther than an old 18 year vet.

He looks like he could make a tackle or two if need be.

You also have to account for special teams on punts. He played for Central Michigan, he probably couldn't afford to boot it farther than 40 yards due to the punt coverage haha

It's hard to judge based on the numbers alone, though. Maybe his team punted from the 40 a lot and he lost yards because the field was short. I haven't watched a single game of his. It's not like he costs the team anything. He's an undrafted free agent. Turk isn't under contract and teams can have 90 in training camp. This won't affect the Texans ability or non-ability to get Aso or another CB.
