Owner Mike Brown said on Tuesday that he won't satisfy the quarterback's request for a trade. Brown says that a trade would reward Palmer for failing to play out the rest of his contract. Instead, they'll let him go ahead with his plan to retire rather than play for the Bengals.

Brown isn't bluffing either. The Bengals have told any team that has called about Palmer that they will not trade him, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Good on the Bengals I say. This is a problem which has infected Proffessional Sports in recent times, not just the NFL.

Look at the Tevez saga at Man City at the moment, the guy has left every team he ever played for under a cloud and is looking to force a move to one of the big clubs on the continent in order to be 'closer to his family in Argentina'!

Wayne Rooney kicked off saying he wanted to quit United before christmas as a ploy to renegotiate his already huge contract of £90,000 a week to £250,000 a week, a rise of over £8M per year.

I'm sure it is happening more and more in other sports that I'm not as much aware of too, these players seem to sign a contract and force the club to honour it no matter what but when the tables turn and the player is no longer happy they have ways of forcing their hand and getting out of the contract early, often to great financial benefit.

Report: Vincent Jackson, Logan Mankins still want $10 million eachPosted by Mike Florio on July 20, 2011, 8:55 PM EDT

APThe good news? None of the 10 named plaintiffs in the Brady antitrust action want to become free agents in exchange for signing off on the settlement of the case.

The bad news? According to Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com, Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson and Patriots guard Logan Mankins still want $10 million each.

The report comes despite Jackson’s Twitter claim after the issue of free agency or free money arose on Tuesday that he wants nothing other than to play ball.

It sounds like more players than Vikings punter Chris Kluwe need to call these guys dirty, but hilarious, names.

What they’re doing is wrong, notwithstanding the rant from Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, which reads like it was ghostwritten by Jackson’s agents, Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod, who orchestrated the Darrelle Revis and Roddy White holdouts. The men who attached their names to the lawsuit deserve nothing other than the satisfaction that comes from doing the right thing.

And if Jackson and Mankins don’t like the fact that they were screwed by the owner-friendly 2010 rules of a CBA that was otherwise overwhelmingly friendly to the players, then perhaps the NFLPA* should release a chunk of its supposed $300 million lockout insurance fund in order to make them happy.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/23/vincent-jackson-is-finally-backing-down-from-his-requests/
It appears Vincent Jackson is no longer a thorn in the side of the NFL. Or the NFLPA*.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the Chargers wide receiver has finally decided to give up on his claim to money or franchise tag considerations in exchange for being a plaintiff in the Brady antitrust case.

This is positive news for a few reasons this Saturday morning. It clears the way for the Brady plaintiffs to quickly sign off on a labor deal once the rest of the open items are worked out.

It’s also a sign that discussions and progress continue to be made over the weekend. We’ll take any progress we can get at this stage.

From July 21st
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/21/logan-mankins-apparenty-isnt-happy-with-jeff-kessler/
In the past few days since Ron Borges of the Boston Herald first speculated (likely with more information than he let on) that Patriots guard Logan Mankins would demand something for signing his name to the Tom Brady class action, we’ve heard nothing from Mankins or his agent, Frank Bauer.

We have now.

“I think it’s realy unfair what has happened to Logan Mankins in media characterizations that he is making monetary demands or holding up a settlement,” Frank Bauer told Chris Mortensen of ESPN. “Logan Mankins is a young man who was encouraged and solicited into a lawsuit to help the union spearhead a new agreement. Logan’s main concern for entering into as a plaintiff was to see if he can become free and help other players have less restrictions. For people to say he has made monetary demands, he hasn’t made any such demand. We don’t know terms. We haven’t talked to [NFLPA* attorney] Jeff Kessler. There has been no communication, but it’s irresponsible to report Logan has made monetary demands.

“Are we disappointed there has been no communication? Hugely. He trusted the union and Kessler to fight for Logan Mankins and the other players.”

It has been widely reported that Kessler has been demanding free agency or free money for Mankins and Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson. Apparently, Kessler made his demands without making sure that Mankins wanted free agency or free money.

Now, Mankins apparently wants a free run at Kessler.

Mankins may have to get in line.

Posluszny had difficulty leaving the Bills, who fought hard to keep him, but the chance to move to a 4-3 defense and some opportunities the Jaguars provided led to his decision.

No FA is supposed to be able to sign until Friday unless it's with their old team OR if they're an UDFA.

So all these things we're hearing about this guy signing or that guy signing with new teams, they're all just agreements in principle.

The problem is that none of these announcements are going through the league transactions process. That's where the info usually gets confirmed, but all we have until Thursday is word of mouth.

By the way, it's now being reported that Santonio Holmes has agreed to terms with the Jets.

For the most part, yes. But I don't think the Jets ever had any intention of signing Aso instead of Holmes. Holmes is too important to their offense to let him go. Problem is, they may be able to get Aso for a discount and be right at the cap limit. Until we know the cap hit for Holmes' deal, we won't know how much it hurts them.

FYI, Weddle update from ESPN rumors:

UPDATE II: Eric Weddle may be traveling far and wide while surveying the free agent landscape, but his eventual landing spot may be exactly where he started this journey.

Weddle's services are currently in high demand around the league (see: below), but the safety and his agent haven't yet ruled out re-signing with the San Diego Chargers, Scott Bair of the North County Times has reported.

"The Chargers will be given as fair a shot as they can possibly have to secure his services," (agent, David) Canter said. "We've had communication with Chargers, who have stated their interest."

- Brent Sobleski

---

UPDATE: Add the Jacksonville Jaguars to the list of teams pursuing Eric Weddle. Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union confirms that the Jacksonville Jaguars have reached out to Weddle to try and make a deal. ESPN AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky says that the Jaguars and Houston Texans have both asked about Weddle, but the Jags need him more than Houston does (see below).

San Diego decided to allow its starting safety, Eric Weddle, to test the free agent market. And the 26-year old has garnered a lot of of interes.

His first stop is today in Minnesota according to Lee Hamilton, a talkshow host in San Diego.

Hamilton also mentioned Weddle's free agency tour will include both Indianapolis and Cleveland.

All three teams are in need of help at safety, particularly Indianapolis and Cleveland. The Colts have cut Bob Sanders and Melvin Bullett has been injury prone. Cleveland is looking to replace free agent Abe Elam.

Bullitt is locked up.

Adam Vinatieri and Melvin Bullitt are staying in Indianapolis.

Vinatieri, the 38-year-old kicker, has agreed to a three-year deal with the Colts, his representatives revealed on Twitter. Bullitt’s deal is reportedly also for three years.

Although Vinatieri has a reputation as one of the best kickers in history, he actually doesn’t have a particularly strong leg: He’s just 2-for-9 on field goals of 50 yards or longer in the last eight seasons, and the Colts have taken him off kickoff duty. But Vinatieri is coming off one of his better seasons, going 26-of-28 with a long of 48 yards.

Bullitt has spent his entire four-year career with the Colts. Last season he suffered a shoulder injury in Week Four and missed the rest of the year.

Love what DeAngelo has done in the league - the guy has been gold for me in fantasy football, and has been a great NFL back. But 5 years at 43 million, well the Panthers are a little foolish I think. Does anyone really see Williams still ripping it up at 33 years old? After an injury hit season last year (although shouldn't be anything to suggest a high likelihood of re-injury) - they're paying for what he's done in 07-09, not what he's going to do.

Via PFT (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/02/colts-sign-tommie-harris/), Indy picks up DT Tommie Harris:

Former Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=2776) is heading to Indianapolis.
Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Harris has agreed to terms a one-year deal with the Colts.

The 14th overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, Harris has played his entire seven-year career with the Bears, and at times played at an All-Pro level. But last year he fell out of favor and out of the starting lineup.

In addition to the Colts, the Patriots were showing interest in Harris (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/31/report-pats-bringing-in-tommie-harris-for-a-visit/).

The Colts use a similar defensive scheme to the Bears, so it likely won’t take Harris long to get up to speed in Indianapolis.
