View Full Version : Houston Chronicles Lance Z says very good news soon about End to Lockout/Deal reached

06-10-2011, 08:07 AM
After reading a report from an online newspaper that an agreement had been reached and that the NFL lockout was likely over, I decided to call a couple of league sources (both on the players’ side) to find out whether or not they knew if there was any truth to this report. The first source said that the report was impossible because the players hadn’t been asked to vote on any new proposal. However, there was also some very good news.

After lengthy discussions with both sources, they both conveyed to me a great deal of hope that a deal would be done by July and possibly as early as late June. Why the sudden optimism? According to one of the sources, “both sides are focusing on the percentage of total revenue coming in (would include the first $1 billion the owners are currently taking off the top) and if that deal gets done, the other issues will probably fall into place fairly quickly according to what I’m hearing.”
You tell me, how reliable are this guys sources ?

I trust Lance above all the other Chron reporters. He's got good sources.

This is excellent news!

LZ has good sources. His father was the OLine coach for the Browns and the Steelers.

He doesn't run BS so I think there is real hope here.

I'll keep my hopes up. But I'll file this in the "Believe it when I see it" folder.

When do you think the regular season will start?

Week 1. September 11th.

Never doubted it.

Wow, after reading Lance's column, he's more than optomistic that not only will we have a full season of football, but a full preseason as well...damn I think I hear trumpets sounding off...and spider monkeys are doing flips!!!...Free Agency Please!!!:ant:

Heard something on tv about a overly joyfer dinner a witness saw the two sides eating last night. I am half asleep right now but hearing that and reading ya'lls post is waking me up to some positive news.

LZ is good and ALthough I sometimes disagree on opinions, I believe his statement has some positives.

08:05 AM ET 06.10 | Considering his participation in the rounds of not-so-secret talks, Robert Kraft's is a voice worth hearing right about now. [Kraft] sounded a bit more optimistic about a deal being struck in the not-so-distant future. "I think we???ve been fortunate that we???ve had two rounds of talks, and any time principals are talking in any deal that???s complicated or has potential problems, I think that???s a big plus," Kraft said [Thursday] at Gillette Stadium, following the team???s "Community MVP" event. "I???m happy that we???re talking, principal to principal." Kraft said the sides were further along than they had been when the lockout started in March. ... The message Kraft essentially gave to fans who have been patiently waiting for a resolution, is that the two sides were inching closer to the finish line. Or at least, it was in sight.

Like Thorn, I'll believe it when I see it.

However, I think it was on Mike & Mike this morning that said vaguely said their were some "jovial" dinners between powers that be from both sides, that the cold war is much warmer today than ever before.

*fingers crossed*

Like all of us, I REALLY hope this happens. :)

I hope so, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Didnt really go out on a limb or anything as I think the guys who thought the other way were definately the minority.

There is no way the wouldnt be an NFL season. Way too much money to lose on both sides.

Hope it gets done ASAP. The "best" part about getting something done by, oh, June 30 is that there'll be a rush for free agency and all that, then bam, training camp. No long waits to see everything come together, none of that. It'd be a great setup

I think this is a way to make sure the NFL owners don't think they have the upper hand in the eyes of the NFL fans.

The players rep is trying to make sure the NFL fans know that the players aren't just rolling over for the owners, though that might indeed be what's happening...still, it's got to get communicated right now that the players' side is not softening (though I think they surely MUST be, to some extent).

NFL denying it = "got dammit, who let that out?!??! he's fired...but go tell them 'no' to keep the suspense going"

It's far too much money to be had to **** around and not have a season. They will NOT screw this up.
