This is my first time posting a mock draft , although Ive had the priviledge to read alot of yours and collect my thougts. So this is what I think that the Texans will do.

Round One
... Whith the 13th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft the Houston Texans select Alex Barron (http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/barron_alex) from Florida State University.

I know a lot of people on this board dont think that the Texans are going to take an OT with their 1st pick, but the more I think about it, the more I think that this is going to happen. David Carr is at a pivotal point in his career and if he cant get things going soon, then I think all his talent will end up being wasted, thats why the Texans would have spent so much for Orlando Pace. Not saying that Barron is Pace, but he is the best OT in the draft, with a specialty in pass protection.

Round Two
Matt Jones (http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/jones_matt) or Reggie Brown (http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/brown_reggie)

If I had to chose between the 2 than it would definitely be Matt Jones, but since hes the X-Factor of the draft and may be gone by then, I had to have a backup. Reggie Brown has good size and speed and was very productive in college. He will be a much needed running mate for AJ.

Round 3
Corey Webster (http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/webster_corey) CB out of LSU
At six foot, he is big enough to play physically with the types of receiver intering the NFL now a days. Good coverage skills, but lacks elite speed.

Richie Incognito (http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/incognito_richie) Very good size and strength, superb speed for a man his size, running a 4.84 40 yard dash. Could come in and add depth at both OG and OC, and maybe take over at the OC spot his sophmore year.

Round 4
James Butler (http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/playerprofiles/s/jamesbutler.html)
Has good size at 6-2 and runs sub 4.5s, great pick because he can play both safety spots adding depth to an already strong defensive backfield.

These are just my thoughts on what I think will end up as a successful draft for the Houston Texans. :thumbup :woot

Looks good to me, the only thing I see with it is what you already said about Matt Jones, a lot of what I have read and the latest mocks have him going in the late 1st round but there is still 2 weeks until the draft and anything can happen.

Let it be honestly known, Barron isn't even the teams highest rated offensive tackle. While Seth Wand's agent has been told to tell Wand there may be a possibility that an OT will be taken in the draft, I still do not believe it will happen, much less if it is Alex Barron.

Matt Jansen
Next Level Scouting, Inc.

So who sould be their highest rated OT, Barnes. Oh and by the way has Matt Jansen seen the Texans draft board? How would he know what it says.

Negative. But my boss knows some people that make decisions regarding player personnel that told him that. More than likely he could be BSing, but I'd take his word. He seems accurate.

I would hate all of those picks except Webster...Barron is terrible value for the 13th pick, as we need people who will come in and make an immediate impact, and Barron will probably sit a year behind Wand...Matt Jones will probably end up being a late 1st or early 2nd rounder, Reggie Brown wouldn't be the speed guy that many feel we need, Incognito will likely be a 4th or 5th rounder, and Butler will probably be a 5th rounder...

BuffSoldier- nice effort, at least your creating some good responses. Barron would not be the end of the world if he was on the board @ #13 and the Texans still owned the pick. I would be shopping him however to try and pick up more draft firepower, something like this which I've posted on another thread & the more its posted the more likely it will become :woot Texans trade the 13th pick to the NY Giants for their 2nd (43rd) this year 05, and their 1st next year in 06.

unless we go receiver with the 1st pick and take Williamson I would rather focus here on a value at CB or one of the elite guards if still on the table with that second pick, one of each if we have two #2's.

third pick I'd like to see the Texans go D-Line or LB, best available prospect
with the second pick in the 3rd round take the best WR or RB.

would have no problem with Butler in the 4th although it would be nice to add a quality OT here to develop.

Like I have said before its easy for a Dline to beat an O line when they know the playcall before the snap our TE gives us away. We get a full-time tight end who can block and catch, our O line protection will get better because the defense will finally guess wrong against us and we can exploit it.

Remember The Panthers under capers went to the playoffs utilizing 1 Wesley Walls, A TE. So that needs to be addressed somewhere in the draft or FA.

the Texans have Bennie Joppru & there are 788,750 reasons why they wait to see how he produces in 05. depending on how well he does this coming season will set the need for addressing TE via the draft in 06 or free agency.

Im not saying draft him with our first rounder.

Im saying we should atleast pick up a decent one in the event that Joppru does not emerge this year. If we put him on the shelf in the preseason again this year id like to try out another option besides the Breuner, Miller Shuffle.

actually to achieve your desired result & upgrade the Texans at the TE position would require the 1st round pick over what & who they presently offer. Of all the draftable positions TE is the weakest this year, I would'nt mind spending a 2nd or 3rd next year if nobody emerges after this coming season.

if that happens and the Texans need to upgrade here is a name for you for next year-

Tim Day, he has the size and athletic ability to play on Sundays in the NFL. 6'4 270 lbs and I'm guessing around a 4.8-4.9 forty, excells in blocking @ the line & down the field. excellent hands, can make the grab in traffic. red zone, stretch the field or short yardage threat. probably will grade out as a 2nd round pick, plays at Oregon and is a teammate of Haloti Ngata the nose tackle of the future for the Texans (I hope).

:woot Theres 9 players at 3 positions who I believe the Texans will take the one who drops to 13 . The 3 RBs are Cadilac,Brown and Benson . The WRs are Edwards ,Williams and Williamson . Then we have the CBs Rolle ,Pac Man and Rogers .

Derrick Johnson , Shawn Merriman and the 2 QBs are 4 more picks to get us to 13 . If you add DJ to the other 9 that gives me 10 players I'd take before Barron .

:hmmm: I think if Wand has all the physical tools to be a LT maybe he needs a fire lit under his big **** . The Oliver Stone theory is the Texans are trying to motivate him by saying their looking at Barron .

These will be the top 13 picks, no particular order:

1) Aaron Rodgers, QB
2) Alex Smith, QB
3) Derrick Johnson, LB
4) Shawne Merrimen, LB
5) Antrel Rolle, CB
6) Pac Man Jones, CB
7) Mike Williams, WR
8) Troy Williamson, WR
9) Braylon Edwards, WR
10) Cadillac Williams, RB
11) Cedric Benson, RB
12) Ronnie Brown, RB
13) Alex Barron, OT

Man, 13 is really where that talent level drops off

trade up to 11 or 12, where there are still some high talented studs. and most likely take Merrimen.

I don't think 3 running backs will make the top 13 anymore. I used to think so but now I think 1 will fall beyond that point. I think Clayton has a chance to go to San Diego because the other 3 receivers will be gone. Carlos Rogers, Demarcus Ware, and Dan Cody all have a chance to sneek in the top 13.

Corey Webster out of LSU, wont make it to 3rd round, his stock has been rising, and someone will jump on him early.

I just can't see the Texans picking Barron with the 13th pick. He maybe the best tackle on board but I've read that he lacks passion for the game and I just can't see the Texans picking someone like him. Especially at the left tackle position.

well let me rephrase that i guess...those might be the top 13 on the Texans board...realistically, you could replace Rodgers and Smith with Ware and Cody at the bottom or something...

My point is, I think those are the most talented players in the draft. And with the exception of the QB's, could very well help the Texans. It would be nice to get one of those 3-12 options
