This is some bull shit. Bottom Line Bob and his "toy" can suck it.

What do I have to do to become a Patriots, Steelers, or Packers fan and root for an owner that actually gives a crap about winning and what his fans want? Is there an application to fill out?

I picked mine up at HEB. I'm now a fan free agent. McNair can kiss my ass. As long as this moron owns the team, it's going nowhere fast.

I'm deciding among Dallas, NO, Atlanta, NE, GB, or Pittsburgh.

I'm listening to arguments for and against any of those, and as of now I have no really large favorite, but Pittsburgh and the Pack might have a slight edge at the moment.

If I were you, I'd go Pittsburgh because they are the antithesis of everthing that is the Houston Texans, despite the fact that Sideshow Bob evidently covets that organization...

I'm hoping Atlanta provides some entertainment in the playoffs. To me they look a lot like the Texans would if they had about three years of leadership.

Yup, love that organization. That is why they are right up there.

I'll still be around some, especially in the no spin zone...and a little in the football talk too. This isn't a goodbye, but I just can't take this crap anymore. I have given this owner the benefit of every doubt, but now that there is no doubt in my mind that he is incompetent, I feel I have no choice. It's not about the wins and losses in any one season, it's about the general incompetence and the fact that I don't get the sense that McNair really and truly cares about winning.

I have a very good friend I've known since we were in high school who is a lifelong Steelers fan We sat together through the 2005 ass-kicking they gave us at Reliant and we go back to the old Oilers/Steelers rivalry but it's all good. Every year when Bob's chumps fall short I get behind Barry's team for the playoff run so this isn't as much of a reach as it seems. It's almost business as usual except I don't really care what the Texans do now. I'm out as far as the thankless job of being a Texans fan is concerned.

Some people interpreted that as a "goodbye thread" but I never said it was goodbye or anything of the sort. I said I was done being a Texans fan if Kubiak came back and I am. I'm still going to post here because I've got friends who post here and people I care about. I'll be more in the NFL forum and the No Spin Zone though. The Texans can kiss my ass following this decision. Lousy team, stupid owner, shitty coach (second one of those). Great PR firm though. That and accountants. I bet they spin bullshit and count money as well as or better than any team in the league.

Will there be as much dancing in the streets and predictions of "next year" as there was when this same decision was made at the end of last year? Did going from 9-7 to 6-10 provide any dose of reality?

Didnt catch everything. One of the more sloppy recaps but hope it will do for now. My apologies.
_________________________________________________

Tough day. Appreciate all the hard work they did and put forth. Tough day from that standpoint but we'll move forward. Got serious things to fix on D.

What about your situation? Your reaction?

Tough day to be honest. Positive thing for me. Exciting. Appreciate Bob's confidence in me. I wanted to enjoy coaching the team last week and finish the season the right way. Visited today and decided on a new direction. Thankful for that but know I got work to do.

Position coaches you let go?

Our D was not good. Got some serious problems we gotta address. Wasnt all coaching. Issues across the board. Have to make a decision of how to get better. I made that decision to let those 4 guys go(DC Frank Bush and DB coach David Gibbs have been fired. Also, LB coach Johnny Holland and asst. LB coach Robert Saleh) and retained a coach(Bill Kollar). Combo of everything. We'll bring in a new coordinator and gotta be fair to him and putting a staff together.

Do you think last 4 years, how do you factor in d

Whatever we done in FA or draft, not good enough D.

Speculation about coordinators.

I have talked to no one. My focus was on Jacksonville. I will be talking to people as early as this evening. Need to get started on this to lock in a direction.

Thoughts on Wade?

I know him. Competed against him. Respect him. We'll talk to a number of people. Wade will be one.

Last time, you said you will interview several?

I will talk to several.

Your decision solely?

All apart of that process. Bob got ideas, Rick got ideas, I got ideas. We gotta come up with best group of guys.

Final say?

We will all work together.

You want a guy who has been a coordinator?

Yes, very important. As we move forward, want someone well respected. We will do everything to do best guy.

Matter if 34 guy?

It doesnt. Have to respect the guy we hire. DOesnt matter what we play. We'll have to adapt to them.

CBA an issue?

Not sure that factors in. Difficulty that could come in play is if something lingers and we dont have our players in the offseason. That can get scary. Lets hope it doesnt. Important we do something fast.

Mario Williams

Always imagine a few players have a thought one way or the other but he wants to be successful. If we move to 3-4, we gotta convince him thats whats best. Gotta get the best guy. We wont go to 3-4 out of spite.

Who will play nose?

Cart before the horse. We got some holes. That would have to be addressed.

Harder to fire people?

Difficult, yes. Brutal day. Part of my job. My job is to do whats best.

[Missed question]

I'm very lucky. After our process and this year, I work for a great man that believes in me. Fortunate there. I wont let him down. I got a lot of work to do. Tough day but we'll move forward. I got confidence in myself and what Bob wants me to do.

Relief that your safe?

Not yet. I have to deal with many other tough things. Tough overweighs everything.

[Missed question but regarding potential FAs]

Few guys like that today. Met with everyone today. Open book because of CBA. Bernard convo was good. He's always played hard for us. He is a good player.

Want him back?

He has done a good job for us but we'll go back to evaluating.

How important to sign OD and Leinart?

All important but so much work to be done before that. OD wants to be here and we want him. Matt, very proud of him. I went through this before with Brian Griese. Matt came here and was about gaining confidence back. He is a fine young man and a team will be getting a good QB if he's not back here.

How much upside?

Huge. Got the IT factor. Watching him come here, where he was, to where he is now, hell of a QB.

Your new DC, give him personnel control?

No doubt. We need to do everything to support that guy. We got a problem. D was bad. Gotta sell our program to top notch guy. What he doesnt have, we gotta go get it. We need to be committed to getting better.

Rick's job is safe?

Only talked to Bob about myself. Cant speak for Rick and Bob's convos.

[Missed question]

Gotta be different. I had 2 opportunites. Gave 2 first time guys opportunites. Proud of their effort. What will be different? Well it gotta be different. It cant take time so we need right guy.

What do you mean gotta be quick?

We wont sit here and wait for everything to pan out of next month. Gotta start tonight. Whoever we get, gotta be successful next year.

[Missed question]

No doubt in my mind. We thought we were there 6 weeks in. We were not. We need to improve as a team. We know where the problems are.

[Missed question]

Tough. Obviously my friends I've known for a long time. Greatest feeling giving those guys opportunites but I had to shake their hand and move in another direction. Part of my job.

What happened to Cushing? Different player this year.

Brian missed time and that hurt him. When you miss 4 weeks, you dont bounce back just like that. Suspension hurt him. DeMeco hurt hurt Brian. Combo of things. Effort was the same though. Still made big plays. We needed him to be huge. When you look at whole D, it didnt happen. His effort was same.

Changes within yourself going forward?

I'll evaluate myself too. I listen to everyone. Thats why Ray and Mike Sherman were here. I dont see this hire being different.

[Missed question]

I cant speak for Ray. We talked. He has talked about retirement. His contract is up. As of today, Ray is helping with evaluations.

Mark Anderson

Good convo with him. Bill did good job with him. We'll see.

[Missed question]

I really dont know.

How do you address slow starts?

Have to go back and look. Started fast yesterday and in Denver. Just gotta go back and look.

[Missed question]

Evaluate that like everything else.

Thoughts on not making changes during season?

Didnt call for that during season. Coaches did their jobs. I didnt see that as the fix.

[Missed question]

Has a lot to do with...Bill does a hell of a job. He had 4 guys suit up who werent even on our team at beginning.

Bob mentioned extension to help with hiring coaches last year. Issue now?

I hope he gave me an extension because I was a good coach but that is part of the business. That is our job to convince whoever we bring in that we'll do it the right way and win.

I'm not going to spend too much time complaining about it. I'll acknowledge it and move on if we get Wade Phillips and an overhaul of the defense.

Exactly. What's done is done.

Thing is McNair thinks it isn't worth the risk of getting a new head coach. That's what it boils down to, only time will tell if he's wrong. History indicates that there is a good chance he may be wrong, but for all we know he may be on to something. I think it takes a lot of guts also for McNair to do what he's doing, once again going against the fans and popular opinion similar to the Mario over Bush/Young decision.

Unlike some others here I'll be rooting for Kubiak to succeed.

Yeah freaking right. Kubiak is as close to being unfireable as anyone I have seen. Seriously, what on earth gives anyone reason to believe he would be fired after 2011 for anything short of winning 2 games.

Lmao.....seriously, like he has frickin Tenure at a University or something. My worst fear that I have had for a few days now once it sunk in the Kubiak is staying is that we go 8-8 next year and McNair will probably give him an extension.

I'm telling you, Kubiak must have some embarrassing photos of Bob using a regular dinner fork for his salad as apposed to a chilled salad fork that he doesn't want his wife to see. :gun:

If you won't be back, then you won't CARE if they are 7-9 or 16-0! :winky:

All kidding aside, I truthfully hope everyone will be back, but, with a positive attitude. What's done is done, and I truly believe we all knew Kubiak would be back for at least one more year. We are all passionate about our team, and all the negative remarks are just ways of venting those frustrations. I understand that, and empathize with most of you. Let's just put it all behind us and move on. We all have decisions to make, and I hope you all make the one's that you can live with, and keep your hopes and dreams for 2011 alive. Acceptance is not always defeat! We either accept what this franchise dishes out to us, or move on. I'm gettin OLD, but, I think I'll stick around, and HOPE and DREAM that my fav football team will make it to the bigshow before I die. I'd rather have that dream than no dream at all.

I can also hold out hope that most of Kubiak's decision making has been revoked and he is to remain focused on offense only.

Time to move on, y'all. We're either with the team or we're not, y'alls choice. I choose to remain a fan of this team. However, my emotional ties to the team have taken a huge hit over the last year and a half. I will always watch and follow the team. It'll just take W's to win back my heart.

Without a doubt they have built-in excuses for sucking in 2011 and keeping Kubiak through 2012 (although he'll sign an extension in February 2012 as McNair believes that magic fairies will someday sprinkle their magic dust on Gary's nostrils and he'll magically transform into Belilandry, so he can't let him go!).

A new defense? Easily a 2 year re-build! Plus, the CBA is looming, so that is a perfect excuse why Wade didn't have the full off-season to implement his defensive scheme, so expect Wary to be around for many more years with this inept and goober owner calling the shots.

sad part is Bob is the one kept him, but people are going to hate on Kubiak because of it..

it is what it is

Excellent point. McNair made the call to retain Kubiak. If there is hate to be spewed, then direct it at the correct target. If you want to be mad, be mad at the right person.

Did you expect Kubiak to resign? Would you have? If I were a head coach who screwed the pooch I wouldn't have just quit. I'd want another shot to make things right.

If I was McNair - and I say this as a Sunshine Club charter member - Kubiak would be packing his things today. I like the guy [again, I'm pretending to be McNair] and respect him as a person but I hired him to do a job and he didn't get it done. Time for me to look elsewhere for someone who can.

Having said all that, I'm still rooting for the Texans. I rooted for them through 2-14; I'll root for them through this.

Oh ok. I know what he was talking about now. It wasn't NSZ, it was a thread about Vince Young's restaraunt and I was ranting about $50 steaks.

LMFAO. What a terrible comparison. Internet access is something everyone in the world should have. The world would be a better place if that happened. On the other hand, $50 steaks aren't helping anything or anyone. What a joke of a comparison. I guess that's what I get for paying attention to Gary. I preferred it when I had no idea what he was talking about.

Man, that's powerful stuff right there!

McLain is good at one thing, and that's talking about the past of the NFL, especially anything related to the Oilers. He was on in the off-season talking about Earl, and how Steelers fans loved Earl. He played the game like they like it, tough, strong, physical. They actually like him a LOT more than they did Franco Harris, who often ran out of bounds instead of getting hit (which led to a longer career than Earl in the end).

Something full circle about seeing that image, and like you said, oh so wrong but soooooo right.

Bob McNair's words about the future are worthless now. He's proven that he is not a man of his word, but rather a ragweed that sways to whatever breeze is blowing that day.
He's a spineless, clueless weasel of an owner that has our eternal gratitude for starting an NFL franchise in this city. :tiphat:

I don’t live in the Houston area so don’t hear all the things on talk radio and such many of you do, sometimes that’s a good thing.

Even though he has not proved it, I think Kubiak is a capable coach; however the thought of moving in a different direction was intriguing, and disappointed we didn’t. He’s very fortunate to still have a job. That’s all here nor there now.

Was definitely a painful and heartbreaking season. Losing DeMeco really hurt, 4-2 with him, 2-8 without.

I hope we move quickly, but look at all our options for the DC position. We need to get this right! Sounds like Wade is pretty much a done deal. Not excited about the thought of moving to an odd front, hope we have and/or get the personnel needed to make this a smooth transition and get better here.

Hopefully we’ll be active in the first wave of free agency for impact players on either side of the ball.

I don't want an owner that is swayed by the public, but rather swayed by his own two eyes witnessing the obvious crap being perpetuated by his coach.

I used the metaphor because he gave us the impression last off-season that there would be accountability if the Texans failed to reach the playoffs (much less post a 6-10 record). I thought the dude was a man of his word and had backbone last year, but now, not so much.

And c'mon, listening to the advice of other owners? That's weasel right there. You think Bob Kraft asks other owners if he's "on the right track"? Dude should trust his instincts (if he had any) instead of listening to those that he's in direct competition with every season.

I think clueless is self-explanatory as a description, so no elaboration required.

So no contradiction, just a failed interpretation of my thoughts on your part. :howdy:

Cool by me. I think you wrote this post last year when they retained him. Head in the clouds or in the sand...one or the other. Enjoy loserdom with your owner. Glad I got this off to him through his admin this morning

Dear Mr. McNair,

I want to learn the secret as to how you made millions or billions because I figured you just fell into it the way you run a football franchise. You are blind and clueless. I’m not even a part of the NFL and my 35 years of watching has made me 10 times smarter than you are about what is going on with your team. It’s laughable.

I saw your piece with Bob Allen last night. Most Texans fans slapped their head and started drinking heavily after you basically admitted that a loser coach will be back. Let me clue you in. In the HISTORY of the NFL only one coach was brought back after 5 straight non-playoff seasons and his name was Bart Starr. I can see that considering he is a Hall of Famer yet he failed also. So statistics are against you.

Secondly, your theory on “traumatic” firings is a farce. Atlanta, Baltimore, Miami, Kansas City and many others have brought in new guys who changed the culture and then made the playoffs the next year with what they had in place. A majority of these are now competing for a Super Bowl while you are twiddling your thumbs at home…AGAIN. I’m not sure who is feeding you this bullshit but you do know that a new Defensive Coordinator coming in is basically the same thing…changing a system. That could take 2 years to implement according to you. So your lame ass excuse means nothing

Thirdly, GARY HIRED THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR. You have tried this already. Remember sorry Richard Smith..a Gary guy also. You told him to get someone new and he brought in his buddy Frank Bush instead of a real coordinator. Now you are blaming it all on the defense…something Gary helped put together with his staff.

You see a trend now Bob? Fourthly, all the losses this year weren’t on your defense. You see, in order to be down by 14-21 for a record number of times your offense has to also be stuck and not scoring. Something Gary’s offense did over and over. The only time they played well was in the last quarter, down by 2-3 TDs and with the other team in the prevent. Weird how that works yet Gary in all his “genius” never started games in the hurry up or adjusted. In fact he is solely responsible for having them prepared every game and they came out flat all those games. That is on the head coach, not on the defense…again, the one he put together with draft picks and coaches.

Lastly, how pathetically offensive was it yesterday that the players were treating the last game like a playoff game and would play for Gary? Strange how they didn't have that urgency for 16 games and couldn’t muster anything to win more than 6 games for Gary. Aren’t all games supposed to be like that, not just ones where they are playing a teams backups?

You are a farce of an owner if Kubiak isn’t gone. ALL the things pointed out above are FACT. If you can’t see that then you have lost this town and this team. People won’t be happy with another soft coach in Wade in here. You have a GREAT open market for coaches right now and are wasting it. You look like an ***** and other owners are laughing at you. LOOK at the facts and have some balls. Stop making the same mistakes over and over.

I like what I heard on the press conference today. This is the first time as a Texans fan that I've heard a sense of urgency from the organization.

At least they're finally talking the talk.

I've been hyper-critical of the organization the past couple of years. As of right now, I'm willing to give them another shot. I don't begrudge anyone for trashing them or even switching to another team. God knows they haven't given us a reason not to.

All this would lead up to one hell of an "America's Game" episode. I'd love nothing more for Gary Kubiak to put a Super Bowl ring on his middle finger and show us all who's really number 1.

I just wanna know if McLaim read my posts here or got his information from the source.

Yes he will be fired. Bob imo can no longer sell "We're so close!"

Added the above quote for context ....

Oh but he can .... Just take a look at the numbers.

Rushing offense.

Passing Offense

Rushing Defense. Yes I said Defense.

#1 in 3rd down conversions </=1 yard.

3rd down conversion %.

Last I checked - Before the Titans game - they were no lower than 7th in any of those categories.

#1 RB in TD's , Yards rushing , yards from scrimmage.

AJ . 4th in recieving yards 4th in receptions despite mising 2 games so far.

Schaub - 4th in passing yards. One of only a handful of QB's to take every snap so far this season( as well as last year).

Thats the things McNair can sell while keeping Kubiak and saying how close the team is ....

owner Bob McNair took into consideration an offense that has ranked among the best in the NFL

They've also lost a few games in heart breaking fashion .... I know it doesnt matter how you lose but thats not the point. We're talkin about Bob here. Our opinions dont matter , he believes we are close and those losses like Jacksonville , NY Jets and Baltimore support his belief at least to some extent.

They lost to the Jaq's when a player made a play and an opposing player made a better one.

They lost to the Jets when a player made a mistake - the safety who had deep help on Edwards and turned inside rather than covering the outside (Believe it was Wilson).

With those two games they became the first team in NFL history to lose two consecutive games decided in the final ten seconds.

the freakish nature of at least five defeats

They played the first 4 without Cushing , They let Pay Me Rick walk via FA (I would have too). They lost Barwin for the season and the pass rush hasnt been the same since. They lost their defensive leader in Ryans ..... and who knows if he will come back. MW is playing hurt and has been all year.
In no way am I making excuses for the players on the field here .... but the coaches have been handcuffed somewhat by these issues.

Dont know if any of you know this but McNair told Kubiak point blank to stop accepting the blame for his players failures to the media .... McNair believes in Kubiak.

“I believe in Gary.

I just find it all kinda funny .... :mail:

Plzz tell me the special teams coach is gone 2 and we need a new Punterr Turk should be fired today

Marciano was not let go. You can be thankful for that decision. He's one of the best in the business. Cant blame him for the cards he was delt. Lot of injuried forced ST players into the starting lineup. Meaning they are taken from his list of available players in most cases.

He wasnt given much to work with at KR ....

As for Turk , yeah he had a down year and its time for him to ride of into the sunset along with Favre ....

His ST have been historically good thruout his time here - Thats why he has survived thru two regimes. Hell it was his ST that kept this team in games during several seasons.

When Marciano has the right tools (players) at his disposal the Texans ST is as dangerous as any in the league.

I vote that this becomes Bob's official nickname. Not sure who coined it but it is definitely fitting.

That's pretty cool how you were able to photoshop Bob McNair's head onto Courtland Innegan's body.

I get that. Turk needs to be gone. In a big way. Slaton can ride with him.

By this same logic, McNair would not be qualified to hire another coach.

He tried an experienced coach with success in his background, success with a rookie QB & an expansion team.

He tried an up & coming hot commodity offensive coordinator.....

I'm sure he's well aware of all the coaches that have their teams playing very competitive football after only 2 years. I'm sure he's also aware of the teams that change coaches every 2 years, & have been simply spinning their wheels.

Maybe he associates our teams with those teams mired in muck and decided not to change coaches every 2 years. That makes sense to me.

Maybe he believes this team is not in the same category as those teams & changing a coach now would be detrimental: I don't believe this... I think we were right there where the Jets were, where the Ravens were, & if we were as active in free agency as they were, we would have been as successful as they were in 2010.

Maybe McNair thinks the same way as I do, & faults the GM for not being as active or not being able to land a FA..... Lee Bodden & Cromartie came through Houston right?

Again, if Rick Smith continues to be our GM by the time we start the next football season (for some reason I don't think he'll change the GM till after the draft similar to the way he did Casserly) Then I'll be completely lost as to what McNair is thinking.
