Was it not clear already? LOL, just joking. Not necessarily, but I would think the announcement would be made in unison. Or it would be made first and then rumors would spread that its expecting some or most of his staff may be let go too. That would be my thought

Ya. As much as it seems almost certain now, there is still ambiguity in his interview comments from last night (and seriously, screw him for that!). But I've never heard of a coaching staff getting fired piecemeal at the end of the season.

And like Jesus, it is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end of the good news.

Unfortunately, it doesn't fit the savior requirement. No Messiah here.

But seriously, this is good news. While my first choice would be to see the entire staff go, I would hate to see that happen only for us to be stuck with a worse HC (I know some of you would scream, "That isn't possible." But I think Mr. Smith could prove you wrong).

I think it's obvious we're dealing with another season with Kubiak. I'd hope McNair and Smith learned their lesson by allowing Kubiak to make personel decisions. Please take any and all personel decisions away from Kubiak. If he's staying, have him involved with the offense only. Let the new DC deal with the defense without Kubiak's involvement. Sorta like the old Bears with Ditka and Ryans.

*Disclaimer: I am, in no way, comparing Kubiak or any Texans coaches to that of the Bears coaching staff. Just the situation

From what I understand, that has been the arrangement in the organization; Kubiak picks for offense and Smith picks for defense. That's what all the scuttlebutt about Ben Tate was for. Supposedly Kubiak wanted Gerhart, but Smith took Tate, and it caused some friction in the war room.

Kubiak said last week that the defense never recovered from the loss of Pro Bowl middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans, who ruptured his Achilles tendon in the sixth game. The Texans have given up at least 24 points in each of their past eight losses.

Our defense was still ranked dead last WITH DeMeco Ryans...

Hope they clean out all of our defensive and special teams coaches.

Joe Marciano has been one of the best in the business for quite a while.

Im of the opinion that he was handcuffed this season with a lack of talent for reasons ranging from injury to just poor personel decisions from above - mainly those of Rick Smith.

He's the one guy who's been here from day one and the Texans have always had good ST play up until this season when .... there was always something gone wrong.

Now comes time for coordinator moves, too: Houston fired its defensive coordintor Frank Bush.

From everything I've heard.... this isn't official.

I would've thought he (like Shanahan) wouldn't fire Bush, because he feels some culpability in Bush's position.

Now, I read a post here in this thread that says Kubiak had nothing to do with defensive personnel.... if that is the case, then that blows my "theory" altogether. Maybe why Kubiak doesn't feel he's got a share in the blame.

Either way..... changes the way I think about Kubiak. He's looking out for numero uno...... F.O.K. beware.

This is a good point.

If all the rumours that McClain is reporting are true, ie Kubiak retained and Philips hired, and it is also true that none of this has been discussed with GK (as he claims) then does it not logically follow that Kubiak is NOT in actual fact the Head Coach since HC by definition makes these decisions?

In this scenario, aren't we effectively operating without an HC? Kubiak runs offence, Philips runs the D, with Smith mediating on draft / personnel decisions.

Maybe that scheme works out ok. Or more likely something here does not jive. I guess the latter, and the piece we're missing is that WP has not been hired, and Kubiak will get to hire DC number 3.

McNair had some recent comments on the radio today that I heard. He simply didn't want to take a chance at stepping back, blowing things up and taking another 2 years to get back up to speed.

I wish he had the foresight (and learned in hindsight the error of Kubiak's ways) to know he's going to be doing this anyway 1-2 seasons from now. McNair's refusal to ditch Kubiak for fear of regressing smacks of Drayton McClane's refusal to let the Astros go through a true re-building period for fear of being irrelevant. Well, the Astros have been irrelevant for a few years now, anyway, and here they are getting a really late start on re-building.

I'm not saying the Texans need to be re-built, like the Astros do, but DAMN, you'd think these owners would be a little more in tune with their own clubs. The Texans problems are about the right people being in the front office/sidelines (a lot like the Astros).

Is it your assertion that all coaches for a team that has "miscues" should be fired at the end of the season? I don't see how firing Rick Dennison makes this team better. Also, I think one poor season out of 9 by the special teams units should condemn a damn fine coach.

Very appropriate.

Kubiak's a defensive coordinator killer. A DC has to really need a job to work under him. Kubiak has shown that he will throw assistants under the bus to save his own ass. No one outside of his buddy circle will ever work for him. Hell, he's gotten half of those guys canned.

Wade wants to be in Houston, and Kubiak is very lucky to get him.
