Is it just me, or is Rackers not only getting the tackle here, but he's also going for the strip?

If so, gotta love it.

Rackers definitely does not "show up and pee down the leg....."

I don't know but you do not want to get plunked by a meek-looking mustached small man. Neil Rackers comes to play some tackle football.

That wasn't an ordinary tackle. That one was pretty violent. It was indeed a hit.

They should try out Rackers at free safety.

Rackers is like a third gunner out there. Definitely the most
aggressive kicker I've ever seen.

Wow. I like to see a kicker making tackles, but it tells me our ST is not getting the job done.

Could it be that he takes full advantage of his poistion after the kick while others have engaged blocks and lane responsibilities - he's roaming free from center field and making plays.

The kicker is often ignored by blockers on returns.

I believe there was an instance earlier in the season (may have been preseason) where Rackers forced a fumble but the returner was ruled down.

He's been in on many a tackle this season .... He's definately not afraid to get his uniform dirty.
He may not have a huge leg but he's accurate from 45 in .... Kicker is the one position Im not concerned with going forward.

Too many off the uprights in my opinion. I need a guy that can kick pass 50 for me to feel that way.

At least Rackers is hitting the uprights, Kris Brown was kicking it into Section 311, row 8, seats 25, 26....

I could be wrong but some returners don't view the kicker as someone who can take them down and then you get guys like rackers who come at you with all they got. Nice to see hustle by a special teams player!

With all the other holes on this team , Starting with the suckitude of the CB's , the inability of our LB's to cover a TE or RB , the DT's inability to generate pressure on the QB (Outside of the Titans game) and ending with the suckitude of the safety play ..... I think Kicker is so far down the list that Im totally satisfied with the play of Rackers this season.

Just tell me when the last time he missed from inside 40 ....

And yet....when the time comes and we somehow need a LONG yard FG to tie/win the game that determines our playoff fate, I'm not going to feel comfortable with Rackers.

:kubepalm: Kubiak would probably take a knee in that situation anyway

I hear what you are saying, but the if a kicker is making the tackle, its typically means the ST players were unable to tackle him and the returner got all the way to the kicker. Rackers is not especially fast, certainly not faster than the CBs and other quick ST players. I like that he gives an all out effort. I just wish he didn't have to.

maybe he'd go with a fake fg and have Rackers throw the ball down the field since the D would never expect that!

I think you need pay particular attention to Rackers on kickoff coverage .... you might just see that his performance isnt due to the suckitude of others. He's in on the tackles with the DB's and LB's because of his ability .... not the last guy to beat like most kickers.

No attempt outside of 45 yards is a gimmie for any kicker .... But if you recall the statement made by Kubiak when the decision was made to keep Rackers over Brown it was due to the depth he got on kickoffs. He's got the distance .... it is just a matter of being put in the situation and getting it done.

In most instances I would agree with you but Rackers does not kick the ball and the wait for the play to come to him, he goes after the ball carrier to make a tackle, not play last line of defense as most or all kickers do. I think that was the point that was being made.

Neil Rackers can tackle. I'm just afraid he'll get injured.

By the way, I stumbled across this video:

What's going on? What's a "free-kick?" Is it just a really long field goal attempt so the Giants don't even bother trying to block it?

If a kick is fair caught you have the option of trying a free kick. It is an uncontested field goal basically. It happened to us vs the Titans a few years ago too if I remember correctly. I think they made it from like 66 yards or something ridiculous like that.

It is usually only utilized at the end of halves or games as far as I know. If you could get a kicker who could literally hit from 80 plus.. on those short kickoffs if one of your up men caught the ball at the end of the half you could just take your guy out there and attempt the kick.

Mike

*edit* to clarify, uncontested means they are 10 yards downfield or more.
