I know, I am sure we all are disappointed with the Texans' season so far. However, it won't be good for our health to be mad every weekend so, let us think about something positive for a change. I will start.

Arian Foster continues to be a bright spot. Cushing finally forced a turnover (he caused the two INTs versus the Giants), and Mario Williams was awake this game.

Just for fun, Arian Foster's fantasy points since Week 1 (ESPN Fantasy Football): 41, 12, 10, 30, 2, 21, 22, 31, 11, and 23 (this week). Beast mode. Only Vick has averaged more points per game than Foster. Glad I have him in two of my leagues, one being a money league (though I'm on a three game slid in my money league, including this week, after starting off 8-0).

I'm just now watching the game on replay... it appears the Jets are running at will. However, looking at the game book, it appears we must have stopped their run game at some time.

Shonne Green who is averaging 4.1 ypc this year only got 2.8 yards Sunday. 15 carries, 42 yards.

LT racked up 36 yards on 12 carries. He's averaging 4.5 ypc this year.

They got us for 103 yards yesterday, thanks to Mark Sanchez's 2 carries for 22 yards.
They are the #4 rushing team so far, averaging 145 ypg.

Not a bad day against the run if you think about it.

Get a ball-hawking FS and this team's losing streaks will disintegrate.

Eugene Wilson is not a starter. Make Troy Nolan the starter IMMEDIATELY and decide by season end if Nolan has it. If he isn't it, he'll make a good back-up when Wilson joins the practice squad. Get a real FS!

If I had had my say, we would not have Okoye, but we'd have a ball-hawking FS....and Darrelle Revis would be ours as well...

2. Our CB situation should improve from now on (once McCain see morstly the bench.)
3. I never thought the Texans would ever be in zero coverage (all-out blitz), even though it burned us on that last play (The fans want this type of aggressiveness, didn't they?)

Yeah.... I'm looking at ypc, doesn't really matter how much they took advantage of the pass defense.

Since the depressing effort/performance in Indy on MNF, the Texans have
played hard for 3 consecutive weeks even though the results have been disappointing. Compared to some other teams like Minny & Dally I think that's a testimony to the players on this team rallying behind their HC. Of course many are here because of Kubiak and they'll also be gone if he's shown the door.

Happy Thanksgiving, See there's something positive.

Is it positive if the Texans finish 7-9 and still win the division?

Yes. That either reveals one of two things:
1) The division is tough and all teams are good.
2) The division is weak and all teams equally suck (a la NFC West).

I'd go with #1. Tough to call a division weak with the Colts. Plus, this division had the toughest schedule this season.

Edit: That wasn't very positive. So, go Texans!

To add to this, on the heels of a week schedule in 2009, it's telling me, that we aren't as good as we thought we were.

In 2005, there were players I liked (Babin, Orr, Peek, Wong, Brown, Earl, Wand, Gafney) that I thought were good, & reason I believed we could start winning right away (If Kubiak could get that light to go off in Carr's head).

A new staff come in.... maybe we need to re-evaluate Diles, Okoye, Wilson, Quin, Winston, Brown, Walter, Antonio, Casey...

Looking at what Babin is doing in Tennessee this year, leads me to believe it wasn't a problem with the talent, but a vision for how best to utilize that talent.

This is Kubiak's team, top to bottom. If this group of guys are going to have success on this team, it's going to be with Kubiak leading. Which is why I still have hope for the rest of the season.

I'm not making excuses for Kubiak, but with the way we've played over the last 4 weeks, I'm not too worried about the next 6 games. I still believe we have the talent to win, they've shown us in spurts here & there throughout the season, more spurts more frequently, more consistently over the last 4 weeks.

Through all the injuries & suspensions, & media buzz... they've done a "fine" job of putting together a competitive team. They've dug themselves in a whole to get them to this point, but that's no excuse.

After 5 years, I believe we should be a Super Bowl contender, not a one & done team. My opinions aren't very far from most, I'm just reserving final judgment 'till the end of the season, or we are mathematically eliminated.

Matt Schaub has 13,143 career passing yards in 50 games as a Texan and needs 249 on Monday night to break the franchise record. Maybe it's just me but it will be nice to finally have David Carr's name erased as a franchise leader in anything that represents goodness. Carr also holds franchise records for sacks (240) and fumbles (68) in his 76 games as a Texan, but unlike career passing yards, those records seem more fitting and representative of how fans remember the franchise's original QB.

Arian Foster has 1,230 rushing yards this season and needs 53 rushing yards to break Slaton's current mark of 1,282. Foster also needs one rushing TD to break Domanick (Davis) Williams' single season record of 13 rushing TDs. At his current pace, Foster will also break Williams' single season record for rushing attempts. Foster has 246 rushing attempts entering the Texans game against the Ravens. Williams set the franchise record (302 attempts) during the 2004 season.

In spite of all the negativity, our team is only half broke and McNair took positive action to fix what is broken without starting over with that which is not broken.

As determined by total yards per game, we had the #3 ranked offense - #7 in rushing and #4 in passing. In QB sacks given up we ranked #10. We ranked #9 in points scored per game. We have AJ, Foster and Shaub. Owen Daniels is back and we have an OL which has gelled into a seasoned unit.

On defense, we have a lot of talent which has under performed under a young coaching staff which was not up to the job. So McNair hires one of the best defense coaches currently in the league who has a history of taking a poor unit of players and making them better. This time Phillips has talent to work with - Mario, Antonio Smith, Shaun Cody, Cushing, Mitchell, Okoye, Ryans, Sharpton and Barwin.

And we have a #11 draft pick.

Momentarily forgetting about the CBA, I for one am looking forward to next season.

Yes overall record technically tops everything, but the easiest way to get a "top overall record" is to win within your division. How many times has a team gone 6-0 in their division and failed to make the playoffs or win the division? Without looking at the stats, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it doesn't happen very often, maybe just a couple of times in league history.

The easiest path to the playoffs is to win within your division and division games are more important than any other game on your schedule, because they count twice...you can get a win while you hang a loss on your divisional opponent.

Of course you want to dominate your division, but as you say, it's not necessary. A lot of people act like it's a necessity.

This is the first time in history that a team has swept their division and not made the playoffs. And I can't remember another team with a losing divisional record that's made the playoffs.

But the fact remains that it's possible and now, in fact, has happened.

And EVERY year, teams have winning records in their division and don't make the playoffs. That's why concentrating on the divisional record is pretty pointless.

The important thing is to win and get to double-digit wins however you can.

I'll take a 10-6 record going 0-6 in the division over a 6-10 record sweeping my division. It's like the Raiders this year going 6-0 in their division and 2-8 outside of it or the Bills from 2007 going 4-2 in their division and 3-7 outside of it or the 2006 Packers going 5-1 in their division and 3-7 outside of it.

Or the 2004 Texans going 4-2 in the division and 3-7 outside of it.

You can concentrate on those divisional games too much and lose track of the fact that you've got to win outside of the division, too, you're screwed.

The divisional games are important. I'm not saying that they're not (I mean, the 2009 Texans going 1-5 in the division and 8-2 outside of it is proof of that.) But they're not THAT much more important than non-divisional games. If we had gone 2-4 in the division in 2009, we would have made the playoffs OR if we had gone 9-1 outside the division. That's how important NON-divisional games are.

Dominating outside of your division can get you into the playoffs while dominating in your division won't.

That's all I'm saying.

All this talk about moving Glover Quin to safety is a great idea because he has good hands and knows what to do on hailmary plays, right?

Yes I know, I saw that as well....in 2009 the Jets made the playoffs with a 2-4 record..

So only one team in the entire league will make the playoffs with a losing divisional record, it's only further proof on how important it is to win within your division.

You know, I've thought about this some more and I'm going to restate my position a little bit.

Divisional games are important. Winning your division is a good thing. But having the best overall record you can is the most important thing. To have the best overall record, you have to win outside of your division and you need to win in your division, too.

I've never understood the fascination with winning the division. It's only 6 games. It's almost as important to win non-conference games every year. That's 4 games. Why don't people tout the importance of winning non-conference games? 4 games is the difference between 10-6 and 6-10.

People were mentioning how rare it is for a team to go 6-0 in the division and not make the playoffs. Yeah, well how rare is it to go 10-0 in non-division games and not make the playoffs? How about 16-0 in the season and not make the playoffs? lolz.
