But Windows Movie Maker won't save it to the web. I used zillatube "try it" version. Is that why? Will it lock down until I pay for it?

The video is awesome. I gotta get it posted to YouTube tonight!

Save it on your computer as an .avi, upload it from there.

But I spent so much time in Windows Movie Maker...about 3 hours.

So I need to re-rip the original video, as an .avi fle, then take it into iMovie?

Ugghhh....

no, can't you just save it as an .avi?? like, file>save as> save as .avi?

No can do, not in Windows Movie Maker. It has only one format, and that's the Windows Movie Maker format.

Even when I try to save it to the computer, it stops at 18%. I think Movie Maker is broken.

I am re-doing it in freaking iMovie like I should have done in the first damn place. Screw Microsoft. Why do I always fall for this? I think I can do things on the Windows side of my MacbookPro, but hell no! I end up re-doing things in iMovie or other Mac programs.

!@#$%^!

Gonna' be late tonight before I get it posted. I still crack up at every line on the video I made, and I've seen it over and over for three hours. I have compiled lots of zingers. Nobody is safe.

OK, I have re-created my script with all the timing for each subtitle.

Now I have the clip in iMovie.

So it's a matter of slapping the subtitles at the right spots throughout the clip, which is easy since I did the script and the timing already.

Then export to YouTube.

Then I will release a link for you guys to get there.

Estimated time is about 2 hours or less. 11 p.m. or earlier, hopefully.

Sounds like just the punchline's going to be subtitled.

FYI, I'm not asking for GP to alter his work. Subtitling/captioning is best for me but I am just one person. I wouldn't want anybody to alter their vision and possibly diminish the punchline. Easy enough for me to ask somebody (and I WILL be asking) to transcribe.

So I am screwed on this deal.

Very irritated right now.

I have movie maker 5.1 on xp pro operating system. I finally got the "export to web" feature to work, and guess what?!?!? The only two places you can "export to the web" are two outdated nonexistent video hosting sites from maybe back in the late 90s or something. WTH?

I am sitting here with the project complete, ready to export OUT of Windows Movie Maker 5.1 and zoom it to YouTube...but I can't.

And when trying to use iMovie 6 on my laptop, guess what?!?!?! The subtitle function is HORRIBLE!!!!! Your line of subtitle text only stays on the screen for like 3 damn seconds, and it builds another 1 second into it for whatever reason. So if your chunk of a scene is not exactly 4 seconds long, your clips get jumbled and the playback of the video and audio gets jacked up. I have sorted through so many forums trying to resolve it, and there isn't anything to do about it. The consensus is that iMovie 6 is retarded when it comes to how it does subtitles. There's not a work around. You're just screwed.

The only other option is for me to grab Final Cut Pro 7, but it's like $999 and I can't spend that dough.

Or, if someone out there knows how to take a Windows Movie Maker 5.1 version "project file" and make it zoom off to YouTube, then we're golden. Otherwise, I am stuck. Maybe I can play the dang video on my laptop and then record it with a video camera? LOL. That's always awesome to watch, isn't it?

Just very frustrated. I'm very good with technology, and this was an unexpected diversion that has led to walking around in circles for 8 hours.

Any ideas out there? The video is just bad to the bone. Honestly it is. We gotta' find a way to get this Movie Maker version 5.1 project file onto YouTube.

OK, it saved the first 42 seconds perfectly. I can view it in Windows Media Player, so I know that everything is OK.

It now seems that because I used the zillatube FREE version, that they have some sort of encoding on the rip I performed to get the original source video off YouTube. In short: When I pay up, I just need to re-download that YouTube source video and it will probably let it complete all the way.

(Sigh) :(

Being a cheapskate screwed me over this time.

GP
11-04-2010, 12:48 AM
Yeah, zillatube programmers let you rip a video from YouTube (during your "free" trial) but they embed some coding within the ripped video that makes your exported-to-web file (out of Movie Maker or any other editing program you use) bog down and stop after 18% progress on the upload.

Purchased the full version ($30), unlocked it, re-ripped the same YouTube source video and whattya' know: It created a whole new ripped file with a different name than the one I had ripped for free earlier today.

I averaged about $4-per-hour today. If I had not been a penny-pincher, I would have had this up already. Maybe I'm more like Bob McNair than I want to admit? LOL.

Now I am converting it to a WMV file, and then uploading it to YouTube.

Brakos, I might still send you a zipped file. I haven't zipped anything out of Windows in a long time. How do I do that? I'm going to google it, but also would like you to advise me, as well. I am using XP Pro, service pack 3.

Right-click on the file in Windows Explorer > Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder. There'll be a new zipped folder, which you can send in an e-mail.

Once they are uploaded to it, I will PM you the user email and password so you can get in there and grab those files. One of them was 26 MB, and my att.net email account says I cannot exceed 25 MB. That's why I am going the route of dropbox.com

So, I am just going to put them on the Internet and we'll go from there.

Sorry if you already solved your problem, but I didn't make it much further than this post.

Go to Save Movie right underneath the Publish button. Save it according to whatever quality you want. Obviously the higher the quality the better. The format given should be a WMV file. I don't remember if you can upload WMV to youtube but if you can't, I suggest downloading a WMV to AVI converter on download.com. After converting you should have no problem uploading to youtube.

That's what's going wrong: Finalizing the video into a WMV format for uploading to YouTube.

Yes, the project is finished in Movie Maker 5.1 but when I go to export it out, by selecting the "Save to my computer" option in Movie Maker...it starts finalizing it and converting it into a WMV file, but then stops.

At first, I could only get 18% completion on the conversion from MM to WMV and it would crash. This gave me about 40 seconds of a completely viewable video....so I COULD put up that video as a teaser, but I don't want to.

Then, I went and purchased the full version of zillatube, re-ripped the raw Hitler source video off YouTube, dumped it into Movie Maker 5.1 and used the same subtitles as I had previously. When I finalized this project, I got to 58% completion on the conversion...and it freaking stopped. So now I have about 2 minutes (it's almost four minutes long on the finished product itself) of a completely 100% viewable WMV file.

It just sucks that it crawls like it does. You know? It's doing what it should do, but it just can't get over the hump.

All I can figure is one of two things, or maybe both:

1. I am using Movie Maker 5.1, so maybe there is an inherent flaw within that version. I can't use version 2.6 (which is what an article suggested to use for the Hitler Gets Angry spoof video projects for people like us) because it's a Vista-only version and I am running XP Pro. Not even sure if it would be smart to upgrade to Windows 7 and use the newest Movie Maker because it the article says the new version of Movie Maker is too stripped down and you can't do subtitles like you can in earlier version. My version 5.1 of Movie Maker is working, technically, very very well. Very easy to use. It's the last little function that is crashing.

2. Maybe it was a bad idea to use the same subtitle set that I used in my first attempt. Maybe I need to completely start a new project, all fresh and clean, and reproduce all the components I need--The source video from YouTube, and the subtitles I make within Movie Maker 5.1.

I am going to try and reproduce this thing one last time. Of course, if brakos82 can use the Windows Movie Maker project file I sent him, he might be able to just do it himself. I also sent him the script, in Word format, that has all the subtitle text I invented...and it has the timings down, as to when it starts and when it ends, so there's a chance he can just rip the source video off YouTube and do it himself.

I don't like that very much, because it sort of robs me of the satisfaction of having done all the work myself. But hey, at this point all I want is for you guys to see and enjoy the video.

Hopefully we get something rolling today. Check back for the next update on our progress! LOL. See, this is like watching a TV series...you just keep coming back for more....

Yeah, I can't get Movie Maker 5.1 to finalize/publish the finished project.

And apparently I'm not alone. Multiple forums are full of people experiencing the same thing I am. And I don't think it would matter if I bought another converter/encoder program to rip the source file off YouTube...I think Movie Maker 5.1 is just screwed up in what is perhaps THE most important function of all. So awful, that the other 99% of it has been working like a champ for me.

Anybody got a copy of Final Cut Pro 7 for Mac they'd like to give me? It's only $999.

Brakos just posted on FB that he has it ready but doesn't have internet access right now to upload it.

This better be REAL good GP.....:bat:

Yeah, I can't get Movie Maker 5.1 to finalize/publish the finished project.

And apparently I'm not alone. Multiple forums are full of people experiencing the same thing I am. And I don't think it would matter if I bought another converter/encoder program to rip the source file off YouTube...I think Movie Maker 5.1 is just screwed up in what is perhaps THE most important function of all. So awful, that the other 99% of it has been working like a champ for me.

Anybody got a copy of Final Cut Pro 7 for Mac they'd like to give me? It's only $999.

I got a bushel full of tomatoes and lettuce with your name on it.

Booooooooo!!!!!!

You still get rep for all your effort. Sorry that crapped out on you. That sucks.

WOO-HOO!!!!!

All I hope is that it retained the same timing on the subtitles, etc. If it did, then I will be exstatic.

On a side-note: This stuff sticks in my brain forever. I mean, if I can't conquer a computer problem...it really irritates me. It's like my intelligence has been assaulted by the computer, and I have to choose whether I crawl away in shame or stand up to it and punch it in the face.

Even if Brakos gets it posted, and even if it's good, there will be the residue of FAIL left on me. I bet if I had Final Cut Pro 7 on my Mac, I could have had this accomplished in like 2 hours total. LOL.

Thanx for the rep.

I worked from 2:00 yesterday afternoon until 3:30 in the morning on it. LOL. I have no clue what happened in the news, sports scores, or if my wife and kids are even still around. LOL.

I get crazy like this if I lose something, too. I mean, I will skip meals and completely zone-out to try and turn the house upside down in order to find something I lost that I know I just saw the other day.

GP is coding at 6.8 mb/second with Apple but has decided to keep using Windows anyway.

I. Think. I. Figured. It. Out!

This whole time I was converting the ripped source file into a WMV file, which Movie Maker gladly accepted (and I thought nothing of, since it was working well during the production of the project).

I went back and re-ripped the YouTube source file into an AVI format, dumped the avi file into Movie Maker, and it FINALIZED IT!!!!!!!!!

#@$!%$!

OK, boys! I am now going to add my subtitles and shoot this thing to YouTube. Even if Brakos beats me to it, I feel great about figuring it out.

As a recent convert to a Mac myself, I can sympathize. I'm running VMWARE so I can have still use Windows 7. Haven't been able to totally make the transition, but it's not from lack of effort or want to :) I spent 29 years of my life on a PC, but this old dog can learn new tricks.

The race for glory begins... will brakos be able to snatch credit and piggyback on GP's labor? Or does GP shed his inability to cut and print a finished product? Only time will tell?! Tune in and watch what happens next...

Wow, I am going to rep you just for reading through the thread. (*edit must spread rep.....) I thought I was the only one. A bunch of folks just jump to the end and post stuff or ask questions that have already been covered!

He's going to have to hurry.

Because I am done with building the subtitles, and am at 40% completion on converting it to a WMV file.

Next stop: YouTube.

The Amazing Hitler Parody Video Race. Sounds like a great TV show to me.

(Plus, I made a few changes to the subtitles, changing some stuff up. Improved it.)

New thread in the Texans Tailgate section of this forum.

It has the link to the video, but you know how YouTube is when you upload a vdieo...it doesn't always appear right away.

But it's done, man. It. Is. Done.
