With todays Colts loss to the Jags, Texans have a firm hold on the AFC South.

Who would have thunk it?

Big deal. Today didn't feel good at all. I'll get excited after week 17.

Not sure how firm the hold is but we are 1 game better than I thought we would through 4.

Aw, it feels pretty good to be 3 and 1 for the first time in franchise history.

The first quarter of the season is in the books. Three more like that and you're looking at a 12-4 team.

True, however I am not getting too excited until I start seeing this team play defense. Maybe Cushing's return can get that going.

One game isn't really firm. I'll take it though, just remember if we lose next week and the Colts win our records will be exactly the same. Lets keep this up though!

NOt exactly the same, 'cause Indy already has 2 division losses.

Yeah forgot about that, hopefully that won't come into play at the end of the season though. It's still true for the Jags and Titans though, Texans lose and they win they'll have matching records. It's possible going into week 6 all AFCS teams are 3-2 so Texans do not have a firm grip on this thing yet.

If we end up with the same record as Indy, and if they beat us on Monday night on their turf to even up the head-2-head, then, and only then does division win-loss record come into play with regard to playoffs positioning, if I am not mistaking.

Not saying it's not important, it is. The above scenario is highly likely.

Agreed. I'm not saying we should be doing better and should be 4-0, just stating how quick things can change.

To be 3-1 with what has happened with Cushing, Brown, and Andre being nicked up is a huge success in my eyes. Before the season i thought 2-2 was the most likely result in these first 4 games, so 3-1 is great.

I'm very happy we are 3-1 atop the division and hate to seem ungrateful about it, but 3-1 or not I don't think we are playing the best football in the division right now. Having said that I think at this moment the difference between best to worst in the AFC South is very little.

At the end of the day today we have the acorn....

This here is the very reason my feeling on this team's standing
right now is "meh." We surprised the Colts, beat a struggling
Eagles team, lost to a struggling Cowboys team, beat a bad
Raiders team. Same thing we've ALWAYS done.

If the Texans come off the bye with winning a majority of those next
five games, THEN we'll be sayin' something. As of right now, "meh."

I'll play devil's advocate a bit here and say if we surprised the Colts what was their excuse against Jacksonville? Also Dallas was struggling BEFORE we played them. I will be surprised if they don't win double digits. The Raiders at home with Bruce Gradkowski at QB are not that terrible actually.

Are we a perfect team? Heck no, but these wins are going to count the same come playoff time and we have some serious room for improvement.

The Colts losing to Jacksonville was no fluke. They are one of the few
division teams that actually get occasional wins against the Colts.
It was a tough game, at Jacksonville, that came down to a 59-yarder
to beat them. It's a DIVISION GAME. The Texans have yet to look
competent in the AFC South. Remember. The Jags SWEPT us last year.

Stare at the 3-1 record all-ya-wanna. I want to see this team win "the real"

I thought they looked pretty damn competent against The Colts opening day. Or do the Colts no longer count in the AFC South?

If you hate the Texans so much, maybe you should go sit with the Cowgirls. I never seem to be amazed at how many folks claim to be a fan, but have nothing but negative stuff to say about their team.

Before the season started I would have been happy just to see us at 2-2 when Cushing came back, but we are 3-1.

Our offense looks like it's can hang with almost any team in the NFL. Our defense continues to suck worse than cygnus x-1. (That's a black hole for the astronomically challenged.) If Cushings return doesn't help fire up the defense, we can still be in for a long year. There are to many good teams on our schedule left to play and our porous ass defense doesn't set well with me right now.

It sure feels good to be in 1st place, but it's too early to be super excited about it. All it takes is another 4 game divisional losing streak and our season's down the toilet.

This.

We have to put 30 points on the board to get a win right now. While I like were we sit, something has got to change. Otherwise any game where our Offense is less than stellar we might as well chalk it up to a loss.

With that being said I saw a ton of short dink and dunk passes up the middle today with the Raiders that went for 8-12 yards. I think Cush will help shore that up.

beat a bad Raiders team.

I'm not sure how you arrived at that observation. The Raiders have/had a top 10 offense and a top 3 defense. No doubt they have been poor in recent history, but they have actually been at a minimum an above average team this year.

I just want this team to get those wins when it matters. The meat
of the schedule is coming up. I want this team to prove it's no fluke.
They must have a winning record through the first 3/4 of the season
to have any chance at a playoff berth. 3-1 is a nice start, but they
have not done anything within the first four games to show
that we're "there."

We still have FIVE division games left, and quite a few AFC Juggernauts
left on our schedule. If this team continues to give up 24 points a game,
even against a team like the Raiders, they will get killed when they play
teams like the Ravens, Jets, Chargers, Colts, Jags, and Titans. We were
swept by the Jags last year, and have never beaten Vince Young. I want
to see SOMETHING different regarding those two teams before I "buy all
the way in." 3-1 is nice, but it's no where NEAR where we expect to be.

Who the Raiders play in the first 3 games of the year, to prove they are
a "top 3 defense?" Three games is not a good sample size to determine
how good any offense or defense is on the season. From what I saw in
today's game, they are a top 15 defense.

It isn't kool-aid...it is the fact that we are 3-1 and on top of the AFC South and have won our only divisional game against the Colts.

It is too early to judge what the other teams we beat/lost to are going to do this season so you just have to take it for what it is.

Game 1- The Texans beat a team that had went to the Superbowl the season before.
Game 2-The Texans beat a team coming off a W over Dallas.
Game 3-The Texans lost to a Dallas team that was 0-2 and needing a win bad.
Game 4-The Texans beat a Raiders team that was 1-2.

In simplest form.

I will admit our secondary needs improvement, but there is no sane person who can say our d line and backers are not giving every QB they see a hard time. Most don't like spending so much time on their backs. GO TEXANS!
