andre- mild ankle sprain day to day heading into the weekend.

James Casey- evasive to the question, avoided quantitating his ankle injury. Will be a longer road back.

We didn’t play well as a team, but some guys carried the game on their shoulders.

Slaton- Kick return must get better jump on the ball, get away from ball when appropriate

Wind made difference in decision for not going for FG (if you look, Rackers had strong kickoffs into the end zone from one side and to the 10 yd line from the other (against the wind side which was the side in question at the time of the FG) side

Very happy with Foster's pass blocking

Huge props to Andre goin out there even though he sprained his ankle, he had only one thing in his mind which was finishing the game.

Reminded me of last year when he threw up blood and even then wanted to go out to the field to help our guys out, they even took his helmet from him and hid it!

Kubiak Press Conference:

MRI update?

Andre got a mild ankle sprain. Day to day throughout the week. James is more severe. Both gonna be fine. Longer road back for James. More than mild ankle sprain for James.

Other guys ok?

Yeah, bumps and bruises. Matt and Vonta beat up a bit.

You had a lot of guys make plays, what do you think about Matt being able to throw a lot of yards?

IMpressive. Matt went down more than we wanted. He never got frustrated. We come to expect that out of him.

Where does this game rank?

Such a great game. So many big plays. Just great ball going on. Good NFL football. We didnt paly well as a team but had 4-5 guys put team on their shoulder. Mario, Andre, Matt, Pollard, Walter, they carried the team. Not one of the better games on film though

Looking back, what did it mean to have Kyle and Mike visit afterwards?

Great Deal. Been close with both of them. YOu see what Kyle is doing for them. A lot of respect on our behalf.

He said so proud of you. What does it mean?

It's special. All about respect.

You often talk about Dreessen, talk about him and the catch.

He continues to play well. He came in and made biggest play of the game. Solid as a rock. We need to keep him involved. Wouldnt expect anything different. Walter example as well.

Throughout Matt, what has he done to field the pressure better?

More football he plays, better he'll get. Our game plans are massive and its because of Matt. He deserves great deal of credit. He understands our offense and what we wanna do and how we wanna do it.

With Steve's struggles on KR, change there?

Steve needs to get better jump on the ball. He has shown flashes. Weren't good blocking but he can make some plays for us. Not disappointed with Steve's effort.

Given leagues emphasis to protect neck and head injuries, changes in the league in the coming years?

Starting to see that now. People talk about the target for DBs, linemen, etc. It's just changed. When you get in hitting position, everything is neck down now.

Something have to change at lower levels first?

Yeah, very important. If NFL does, everyone needs to.

Concern with pass defense?

Yeah, they schemed us up pretty good. Had some stops in 4th Q. Yeah, we got work to do. Know we're young but no excuse. People are gonna test us until we improve.

Surprised they abandonded the run?

When having success with pass, easy to see why they stayed with it. Mike trying to put the game away. They ran the ball a little bit in next to last drive. He went with hot hand.

Second guessed for not going for FG.

Wouldve been 53 yarder. Few yards short of being comfortable. Liked the momentum at the time in our favor. It worked out.

Initial thoughts on Cowboys?

Played them just recently. They're 2 plays away from 2-0. Same team loaded with talent that started the season. They'll play great football here. We'll have to play better than last week.

Worried about not winning giving up so many passing yards?

It concerns me. People see you struggle in one area, they'll go after you.

Standard procedure of not watching kick?

Something I've done my whole career. Just a habit. Not sure if good or bad, just a habit.

Talked aobut how your team responded, different confidence in this team?

We got pushed around in first half. Uneasiness in locker room. Guys frustrated but once that was over, they were still calm. We didnt panic in 2nd half. We just said lets go play a good half of football. We've grown up from that standpoint. We expect to play great games.

Arian didnt have big game rushing but did stuff in passing game.

He played pretty good. Arian excellent in protection. Screen play he had, he and Matt made good play. Had some good runs in there. We'll do what we have to do win, whether line up and run it or sit back and pass it.

Had no idea James Casey was injured. I am bummed, big time.

Thanks for posting that huge section of text of what Kubiak said in the presser.

I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed, but Coach Kubiak is very confident in this football team. Unfortunately for this weekly article, there is a correlation with his confidence and also his honesty in the press conferences (particularly for questions not dealing with injuries). Never-the-less, here is our weekly drill ( a few interesting nuggets included)… Coaches’ words are in black (compliments of houstontexans.com) and his thought are in red italics.

Head Coach Gary Kubiak
(on injuries to TE James Casey and WR Andre Johnson) “(WR) Andre (Johnson) has a mild ankle sprain. He’ll be day-to-day throughout the week. We feel better about it today than we did yesterday coming out of the game. He’ll be day-to-day as we head into the weekend. (TE) James (Casey) is a little bit more severe, but they both are going to be fine. It’s just James has a longer road back than Andre.”

AJ will play this week, even if we have to break into Brian Cushing’s stash of goodies! Casey may miss some time, but the important thing is that he gains some experience this season and is ready to assume a bigger role after we let Owen Daniels walk.

(on the health of the rest of the team) “Yeah, we’ve got some bumps and bruises. (QB) Matt (Schaub) is beat up a little bit. (FB) Vonta (Leach) is beat up a little bit, but I think all those guys are going to be fine. It’s just a matter of getting them through the week and getting ready to play.”

With Duane Brown out, I wonder if we're going to have more TE sets to help with protection. It'll be interesting to see how they set it up with Casey most likely not going on Sunday.

I think there will be a lot of that. There will also be that RB's are chipping out of the backfield and WR's in motion....

And why would we let OD walk? - don't say the injury, that's a moot point.

Three torn ACLs... Very high contract demands... A wealth of talented, young, and inexpensive talent at TE....
