It doesn't look good from what I saw on TV. I am guessing he'll be on IR. Sucks.

I would respect McNair if he would ring up Schobel and say "OK, you got it. Whatever you want. Seriously. What's your price? You don't want to be coached? Fine. Just suit up and play. Just play."

It looked like he had an air cast placed. Makes me think of a fracture, with or without knee ligament damage. We'll have to wait and see

That's what Tate with his fracture should have had on while being carted off.

The knee isn't supported by the aircast, therefore whatever the injury, it's below the knee.

My first thought was an ankle. The right foot was pointed to far to his right...and I can't remember the medical term for the direction it was pointed.

But is too far to the right. I can't imagine the pain.

I think you're talking about "eversion" of the foot. Looks like similar injury to Tate. I got called away, so I wasn't able to see much at the time of injury.

You could tell immediately that it was really bad, as about a second after he hit the ground he slammed his fist as if he knew. Our last 2 second round picks are cursed!

But yea Barwin is a huge piece of our D-line and we came out with these exotic looks with our front 4 that had them constantly moving around not only along the line but also dropping back to where our LB's were. Barwin's versatility allowed us to do this and once he went out, dead weight Shaun Cody got inserted and whenever he was in all we could do was just straight line up.

And if it is really bad, luckily for him and terrible for us he could have up to 2 years to recover due to the potential lockout

What I'm reading here is actually a relief. When I saw the injury, I was certain that ligaments in his knee got shredded. I'll take a bone fracture over a ligament tear any day when it comes to long term durability.

And I was so ready to see him be a holy terror on QB's this year. I hope Smith was on the phone with Schobel within five minutes.

I read somewhere that it was a dislocated ankle and he would be gone from 4-8 weeks. Any truth to that?

Just my thinking on it: Even if he was "back" after 8-weeks, is it going to be well enough to let him take the field for the remainder of the season?

Might as well stash him on I.R. and bring up another player from the PS. Then sign another player to the PS in that guy's spot.

It feels like, to me, it would be more valuable to I.R. him.

Maybe he and Tate and push each other in rehab, should be on a pretty close timetable. Sucks for this year but thats two talented players we get back next season.

That sucks... he was bound to have a breakout year. All of the sudden we are really thin at DE.

I would take a real hard look at Schobel now. It shouldn`t be about money, but about if his heart is still in the game, and if he is fit enough...

Just got a text from SportsRadio 610, Barwin out with fractured right ankle...

Smith needs to call Schobel today and have him come in on Monday. 8 million is nothing considering A: Playoff chance this year B: Non-cap year...

Bet we hear something by end of the week....

As I stated when Tate was reported to have a dislocated ankle..........a fracture virtually always accompanies an ankle dislocation.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like the ankle could be ONLY dislocated.

The pressure exerted upon that small area, to cause a dislocation, has be so intense that some little bones in there are cracked in the process.

Things like this could happen to any player at any time.

Should have seen the injury the RB from the Eagles had today. He went forward and his knee went 90 degrees the other way. Weaver I believe it was...

Texans defensive tackle Antonio Smith rolled into Barwin's leg during a play, and Barwin immediately fell to the ground and began writhing in pain.

The photo in the middle of the page captures Connor's pain and Kubiak's compassionate concern.

Weaver suffered an awful-looking leg injury while carrying the ball in the second quarter of the Eagles' opener Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

On a short run, Weaver was stood up by Packers Nick Barnett and B.J. Raji. As Raji -- the bigger man of the two -- hit Weaver high, his leg buckled underneath him.

When the play was shown on the stadium scoreboard, the sellout crowd at Lincoln Financial Field groaned loudly at the gruesome sight.

Weaver was helped off the field with what the Eagles initially said was a left knee sprain. He was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Might want to put a warning tag with that link. Not everyone may want to see that pic.

Anyway, I thought it looked really bad on tv. The ankle definitely looked like it was broken from the angle. But I also thought he tore up his knee. Really sad to see this happen to another one of our young players. Kubiak's little hug and concern was a touching moment. Hope Barwin is able to make a 100% recovery and ready to kick some ass next year!

It will be interesting next season when we have 2 young players in Barwin and Tate returning from injury. Its almost like having 2 extra picks in the draft.

That was tough to look at. Keep the faith, Conner.

If it's just about $$$ for Schobel, I don't know if he's right for this team. But if he reaches out to the Texans because he sees the potential this team has, I think there should be some bridge between what's been offered and was been requested.

Yeh, brings back memories where I slid into 3rd for a steal. The throw was high, and the 3rd baseman went way up in the air and came down smack dab on my ankle. At the time, cleats weren't rubber........they were metal and sharp. The shock momentarily knocked out the pain, and I tried to stand up to "shake it off." Then the excruciating pain hit me. My foot was hanging to the side at a true 90 degrees from my leg...........and the bone was sticking out of my baseball sock............... I also relived that injury seeing Barwin's foot

Unfortunately for the Texans, all the news wasn’t good Sunday at Reliant Stadium.

Second-year defensive end Connor Barwin suffered a season-ending dislocated right ankle.

“That’s a tough loss,” coach Gary Kubiak said. “He’s a fine young player doing some great things for us.

“They’re trying to get the pain under control right now. Obviously, we’ll have to fix (surgery) it, but I don’t know when.”

Barwin, a second-round pick last year, had 4 ˝ sacks as a rookie. He played in passing situations. He would have played most of the Colts game because the Texans were in a nickel defense, but he was injured in the first quarter when teammate Antonio Smith crashed into him while they were chasing running back Joseph Addai on a 2-yard run.

“We got tangled up in the mix of things, and I think he was trying to plant to go back out (to make a play),” Smith said. “His leg was under me, and I fell on it. I heard him scream as soon as I fell. When I turned around and looked, well, I never want to see that again.”

Free safety Eugene Wilson had a hard time looking at Barwin's injury.

"His foot was just kind of hanging there," Wilson said. "I saw them (doctors) pick it up and move it, but it was hanging pretty loosely."

Barwin was writhing in pain and had to be carted off.

“Man, it was real bad on me,” Smith said. “I felt like if I could have stayed up, he might not have gotten hurt. I was with him every day (over the off-season) in the weight room. Last year everybody was talking about how he was too light, he’s not strong enough. He put in so much work.

“For it to be taken away from him in the first game, it felt bad. I’m going to send my prayers out to him.”

Barwin was replaced by Jesse Nading, a second-year undrafted free agent from Colorado State.

well crap.. hate to see players get hurt like this, hopefully we can get him back on his feet. I've never seen a ankle dislocation, hopefully it's not a career ending injury.
