And if it weren't for that same reason we would have WON the Rosencopter game and probably been to the Playoffs AT LEAST last year!!!! :choke:

You bring up a great point GuerillaBlack.

It really is amazing man. With all of the fluke injuries that go on, that man has avoided the major ones. It's just by the grace of God that he hasn't had something major that would keep him out, whether he wanted to play or not. It happens every week, someone gets hurt pretty severe. When you think about the amount of snaps he's taken and to be able to avoid that, it's mind boggling.

Hervoyel

I thought that the Vikings really only lost this because of two things. They abandoned riding Adrian Peterson in the second half too soon and Favre taking all preseason off plus Rice being out (plus Harvin's headaches) meant that they had no rhythm or consistency in their passing game. The Vikings were more discombobulated on their own account than the Saints made them. Six weeks from now Minnesota is not going to be any fun to play.

I don't know, Pat Williams was getting ridden in the second half when the Saints decided that running the ball was a thing too.

Oh yeah, he's showing his age. I thought that the "Williams Wall" was starting to look like it had lost a step.

But 9 points for the whole night? Those passes at so many peoples feet (Favre looks pretty inaccurate to me right now, he'll get better fast though) and having 9 minutes to burn for one score and doing nothing but throwing the ball was all on the offense. They weren't on the same page at all tonight.

RazorOye
09-10-2010, 06:58 AM
A couple of things encouraging and a couple of things frustrating.

I never dreamed a 14-9 score.

I was really, really impressed with the defense. The main problems in the preseason were poor tackling and anything between the wideout and the tackles running free in the middle of the field.

We tackled really well - was glad to see that.

And the adjustment at halftime on Shiancoe made all the difference in the second half. Putting someone to actually cover him helped - our corners held down the sidelines exceptionally well. Greer was a beast last night and I hope he starts to get wider recognition.

Harper played in coverage like I've never seen him.

Jenkins looked pretty good, too.

But our secondary wasn't a concern for me coming in except for covering slot WRs and releasing tight ends. I liked the adjustment we made.

I was really really pleased with the play from our defensive tackles. Ayodele looked better than I've seen him consistently. Ellis was solid. Didn't notice much from the ends except for Smith blowing a play up and facemasked (not called) which kept him from getting to Brett.

The linebackers were better than I thought. Shanle switched sides and started Dunbar. Vilma is sick.

Concerns were primarily on the offensive side of the ball and with our kicking game.

Not ready to worry about Hartley yet. He missed an easy one against TB and went on to do well in the playoffs.

Dropped passes. Colston dropped two. Henderson dropped another which would've gone a looooong way - perhaps a TD. Meachem dropped another TD. Two missed field goals.

Left a lot of points on the field - 13 or 17 at least. And that bothers me.

Gonna write that off as first game jitters - getting in a rhythm. But that's the optimist in me talking.

For those of you here - and the talking heads - who want to talk about Favre's issues or inaccuracy - there was also a lot of credit to be given to the Saints secondary. We didn't come after him quite as hard as in the NFCCG and he had time to throw on a lot of passes. But the coverage was strong all game long on the (admittedly hurt w/out Rice) WR corps.

There were a number of passes defended and deflected. And a number of others where coverage was so tight there was no place to actually complete it.

The offense will get better.

I hope the defense can keep it up. The Saints had a top 10 defense the first few games of the year when both Porter and Greer were healthy - I can only hope we can repeat that and they stay healthy. We're at our best (which sometimes ain't all that great) when both of our CBs are available.

It's a win, I'll take it.

It's against the Vikes and that makes it even sweeter.

Oh, and Bushrod looked really impressive vs. Allen. Early returns on post-mullet Allen is not good.

Evans and Nicks straight up maul people up the middle. Love those guys. Absolutely love our guard tandem. Running up the middle of that defense all second half. Wish we woulda tried it more in the first half.

Yeah but GM's and coaches say that guards dont matter. Thats why they dont draft them until the 2nd round.

/sarcasm.

heh...

I love how our management has gone about building both sides of the ball.

I love the interior of our OLine - running up the middle (and Bush has looked really good doing just that this year and Thomas has always been stout) and providing blocking for Brees.

And I love the secondary, CBs specifically. Favre was 4-of-12 last night targets WRs. Part of that is no doubt rust. But credit the DBs of the Saints. They looked really impressive. Jenkins looks like a future Pro-Bowler and Harper covered Shiancoe better than I thought he could.

I also like how the coaches - on both sides of the ball - use these strengths and scheme for them and target them in drafting/scouting/free agency.

I haven't loved our front office this much since Finks.
