The Buccaneers released Aqib Talib? WTF? Didn't he start like 15 games for them last year?

We had someone on here... was it YTF?... who was totally on the Talib bandwagon back in the day.

I seem to remember quite a few people being high on thiguy:

G Max Jean-Gilles

Would really like to bring this guy in:

C A.Q. Shipley

I think Shipley may fit what we do extremely well.

J_R
09-04-2010, 06:43 PM
Max Jean-Gilles cut because Stacy Andrews trade to Seattle did not get through in-time, so had to release him. They want to re-sign him but of course, now that he is released, he is free to go anywhere. Don't know much on Shipley so I wont speak on that behalf.

I wouldn't mind RB Andre Brown, either.

I wasn't sure if C AQ Shipley fit what we do here or not.

Several RBs that are possibilities have been cut: Joique Bell, Andre Brown, Alvin Pearman, James Johnson, and others.

Can't wait to see who we pick up. Hopefully, we pick up someone good.

I wouldn't mind RB Andre Brown, either.

I wasn't sure if C AQ Shipley fit what we do here or not.

Heres some scouting reports on him pre-draft:

Shipley is a highly decorated center prospect, but the 2008 Rimington Trophy is the most compelling item on his resume. Shipley won the award as the nation's top center, beating out a handful of other players worthy of the distinction in what some scouts are calling the best center class in a decade. Being named best center in college doesn't make him the best center prospect in the NFL draft, but Shipley is certainly in the upper echelon. The All-American and Big Ten offensive lineman of the year is tough and physical, and uses his feet well. He helped pave the way for Penn State to rank 17th in the country with 205.8 rushing yards per game while leading the Big Ten with 38.9 points and 448.9 scrimmage yards per game during an 11-2 2008 season. Shipley turned in an impressive performance at the scouting combine and has demonstrated the leadership and attitude needed to anchor a pro offensive line. However, he lacks the height, bulk and arm length of prototypical NFL centers. Though he played multiple positions over the course of his career with the Nittany Lions, Shipley will likely only be used at center at the next level. He's unlikely to dominate the pro game like he did the Big Ten for four years in State College, but he should be a solid pickup in the middle rounds in April.

http://stats.nj.com/nfldraft/players.asp?id=124916

Positives: Stout, tough and physical at the point, plays like the former nose guard he is. Strong anchor in pass protection, and does not get bull-rushed as he uses his wide base to maintain leverage. Battles everyone and anyone on the field, playing through the whistle. Good enough feet to combo (in either direction) then get to the linebacker or safety and angle him while engaged. Adept at shotgun. Gets hands up quickly after the snap. Gets off his man to pick up late blitzers using his feet and hands. Only adequate moving laterally on pulls, but is still able to wall off linebackers inside. Team leader. Makes accurate line adjustments.

Negatives: Lacks height, bulk and arm length. Projects to center only, probably in a zone-blocking system. Short arms prevent him from maintaining contact with tackles on the move, which lets his man shed or get past him. Initial punch is only adequate. Does not consistently sustain his blocks, especially against stronger tackles.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/517530

Hadn't seen that second report before I posted that he'd fit well in our system.

From what I've seen of him, I would not mind him here either. Just pointing out the relationship between the two staffs and the fact that they run very similar offenses. Do you really think that Wash. is so deep in RB talent that they would let a promising young talent get away?

I like him also, although the knock on him is that he is more a dink dunk WCO QB, he's a shotgun QB who doesn't read all that well, and has a rather limp arm past about 25 yds.

Shanahan is only going with 3 RBs. Which seems dangerous.

His 3 are:

Clinton Portis
Larry Johnson
Keiland Williams

And he let Torain and Parker go.

The fact that Torain has been basically in the same offense all offseason would definitely be a mark in his favor, I would think.

The fact that Torain has been basically in the same offense all offseason would definitely be a mark in his favor, I would think.

1. Yes, it should be a no-brainer that we'd look at Torain because he's been in the same offense.

2. The question is this: Will Kubiak NOT look at him (a serious look) because The Shan Clan (I came up with that moniker, too, btw. Just now.) deemed him to be non-roster material. OR...does Kubiak scoop him up and try to send a little dig Shanahan's way.

Not saying that Kubiak would do this out of "extreme" malice, but the two coaches are competitive and I can see it happening.

I just re-watched the Redskins vs. Bills first preseason game. In that game was Ryan Torain and Joique Bell and those were the two guys I had intended to focus on. But there was a 3rd running back in that game that was also released who should be given some consideration, Chad Simpson. He's a 3rd year player who had been with the Colts basically as a return man.

Ryan Torain (17 rushes for 62 yards) looked slow and lumbering. When he got a crease, he didn't seem to pop through it. Early in the game, he seemed to go down at first contact a lot. Later in the game, he ran a lot harder and busted his way through some traffic but I had bad flashbacks to watching Chris Brown run. I could see why the Redskins kept Keiland Williams instead.

Joique Bell (5 rushes for 52 yards and 1 TD) looked small and quick. I was surprised that he seemed to do well in pass protection. Early in the game, he wasn't getting a lot of yards but he didn't seem to have any holes to run through. Later on, he got a crease and broke it for a 28 yard TD. I'd definitely consider this guy. He played special teams and had 4 tackles in the entire preseason and they also tried him in kick returns.

Chad Simpson (7 rushes for 67 yards, 43 yards on one play) looked small and quick, too. I expected him to get blown up in pass pro but I saw him throw some good blocks... I also saw him misread a blitz, take the wrong guy, and almost get his QB killed. This guy was a kick returner for the Colts for a couple of years so he could possibly take Slaton's place on KR.

The Bears cut LeFevour? Aw, man. I wanted Dan LeFevour in the draft but I knew we couldn't get him.

Even though he's young, he'd be a great pickup for us.

Looks like LeFevour knocked JT O'Sullivan out of a job today. Link (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/football/7187828.html)

Max Jean-Gilles re-signs with Eagles

Eagles also re-sign DT Jeff Owens to PS

I was really high on Owens in the draft.... I'd be tempted to ninja him off their PS if we have any roster room for it.

Pretty sure they have to clear waivers first before they are placed on the PS, so I would say not since we've already passed on him once.

I don't think so. I think his 15 minutes are up. He's never been that good of a DB and I think he's lost a step and his returns aren't what they used to be, eiter.

(I could be wrong, though.)

No to Vasher. Not sure what you read into this but if you thought Bennett was bad for us, Chargers kept Bennett over Vasher. Just sayin'

I probably didn't type that well, but I meant they will sign some dude I (or none of us) is really thinking about.

How do you pronounce that name "Joique"? Just curious because I haven't a clue.

Only time I've ever heard of him was on ESPN where they pronounced it "joy-k" Bell.

FB Tony Richardson cut.

looks like they went with the Terminator. Can't say i blame them, the dude looks like a beast. Richardson was an outstanding leader and any team would be lucky to have him.

If he is still available and by some chance Vonta goes down, this is the guy we should turn to.

The Jets have already confirmed that they are re-signing Richardson, and he will start week 1.

The 9ers released QB Nate Davis :mcnugget:. Just heard of this now and not sure if its been posted already. I'm surprised, the guy looked really good the times I saw him play. I'm browsing the 9ers forums and quite a few of them are pretty pissed off.

Wow, surprised he landed in there PS. I was hearing that quite a few teams were interested in him. Even though he's a 9er, I'm rooting for the guy to do well. Hopefully its somewhere other than San Fran.

Sometimes I think that teams have unspoken/gentlemen agreements when it comes to getting guys through waivers and onto their PS....

I tend to agree, though it does happen, just not much.
