Hopefully, because of his history with the Texans, they are not going to bring him in strictly with the intention of using him as a "camp body." That would be somewhat cruel. I hope he's in here because they sincerely see at least some potential for him on the team.

Amen.

I also saw where Seattle put Chester Pitts on the PUP list

Seahawks August 1: Announced the retirement of WR Sean Morey. Placed OL Chester Pitts, FB Owen Schmitt and CB Josh Pinkard on the active/physically-unable-to-perform list.

Seahawks July 29: Agreed to terms with G Chester Pitts. Released DE Robert Henderson and LB Anthony Heygood.

Wait a minute...the season hasn't even begun and Chester's already making false starts?

Chester Pitts is on the PUP in Seattle?

DAMN RON DAYNE!

I think we should start using that as a running gag for any bad turn of events whether Dayne was involved or not. Since it won't go away lets just use it.

"Yao Ming broke his foot again! DAMN RON DAYNE!" for instance.

We could even do a double tap "Charlton Heston" style when something was really bad. "DAMN RON DAYNE, DAMN HIM TO HELL!"

Big Nasty for LG?

Doubt he has adequate lateral movement for a tackle. Place the big guy at guard and let's see what he has.

Texans to give former OT Spencer a tryout

Former Texans offensive tackle Charles Spencer, who has been out of football because of a badly broken leg he suffered as a rookie in 2006, is getting a tryout with the team today.

Spencer said general manager Rick Smith called and talked to him about a tryout.

Its a blessing, said Spencer, who resides in Houston. I was looking for another opportunity, and the first team to call is the one that I have unfinished business with. I cant thank Rick enough.

Spencer, who was given the nickname Big Nasty, was the first pick in the third round and earned a starting job at left tackle as a rookie before suffering the injury in the second game at Indianapolis. He underwent surgery and rehabilitation.

Spencer signed with Jacksonville in 2008 but didnt play for the Jaguars.

I cant tell you how excited I am just to get a tryout, Spencer said.

This would be awesome if it leads to him making the team and eventually playing some for us.

Wouldn't that be awesome?

I'm a little surprised they called him and not vice versa. Anyhow, best of luck to CS.

I hope the guy is healthy enough to make the team. We have no depth at OT, and he can play both guards spots also IMO. I have to give the man credit, most people would have pack it in by now, he has been fighting to get back into the league and onto the field. He did play last season in the new league, so they must have some tape on the guy from last year.

But sadly I have a feeling, being that this so late into camp, they are just looking to see if he can be a candidate for a in season injury replacement call.

The man has a violent punch and the injury should not have an impact on that.

Hope I am wrong, cause I want this to have a happy ending for Spencer.

I watched Spencer's team in the UFL last year. From what I remember he played the second half of the first game I saw and garbage time in any others he got into. He couldn't crack the starting line-up there; I doubt he makes the team here.

Based on what I have read on the main site. It sounds like Rick is checking options. Also tried out Salaam. Looks like they are more than a little concerned about depth and perhaps starters. Personally, I would really like it if "Big Nasty" were able to make it back with us. Even if it was only as a backup player.

I agree that is exactly what it looks like. If someone gets hurt, they need options, guys they can call if someone goes down.

I have nothing to be optimistic about. But it has been one more year for recovery, gaining strength back, regaining mobility, etc. Sometimes that's all it takes. I'm pulling for him.

Tell ya what, if he's still as big as he was pre-injury, that 350 range let's see if he can be a nasty DT. You don't have to be fast to be huge, just gotta push a smaller guy over. If he could do that, I'd start him on the DL.

I can see him in red zone where you don't have to worry so much about a quick DE getting outside and circling to kill Schaub. That example and maybe 3rd and short. What Olineman gives you confidence?

I also think that he is being looked at as a guard now, on the left side. I think that is where he would be best at.

When, 3rd and short? I have faith that either Brown or Winston could move his man the necessary 1 yard. I have ZERO amount of faith in anybody between them however. I know, I know, Spencer isn't right for the system...change it then. Make a system that has mostly fast guys that get to the 2nd level but also keeps a BIG NASTY at OG to hold the point so that when the RB collects a handoff it's not the opposing DT handing the ball off.

Guys, Spencer and Ephraim Salaam were brought in to see if they could be viable calls during the season if one of the OTs got hurt. The team did not intend to sign them today. The team is only trying to find the names of guys to add to a list.

read here (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/7167139.html)

"We worked out Charles and Ephraim to see where they both are (physically)," coach Gary Kubiak said. "If we have some concerns down the road, the depth of our tackle position, we wanted to work them out."

It's just funny. Like, I feel that I could go line up at DT, a full 100 pounds lighter and 3 inches shorter than Amobi Okoye and fare similarly. Actually, I would bet money that if you gave me a full game of snaps, at least once a game I'd be laying on top of the QB telling him to eat my sack.

I'd really doubt many roster worthy guys are still available. No doubt this is an "uh oh, we only have 3 tackles" kind of deal. Still, big Spence is going to draw a little love from the board.

Rep to anyone who will take the Texans draft history starting AFTER the Charles Spencer pick and cherry pick their way to a super team, assuming Ron Dayne never derailed a 2nd career.

To me, this is Kubiak saying everyone who's not Winston, DBrown or Butler sucks....and I agree.

I didn't notice Pemberton or that converted TE guy, but Stenavich was rag-dolled. Getting thrown around by 2's, 3's and maybe even 4's can't make a head coach feel real good.

Maneri didn't play against the Saints, Pemberton did though. Pemberton is more of a RT and Stenavich is a liability in pass pro, so he should be RT or more likely a Guard. We have no depth at LT with Brown, Butler and Maneri, who is still learning the position.

I believe that Kubiak stated this evening on 610 not to make too much out of the personel that they were working out now.

Not Spencer related but Texans "have expressed interest (http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2010/09/beekman_drawing_interest.html)" in former Bears G Josh Beekman.

Not Spencer related but Texans "have expressed interest (http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2010/09/beekman_drawing_interest.html)" in former Bears G Josh Beekman.

Josh Beekman Profile (http://chi.scout.com/a.z?s=25&p=9&c=2&cid=921288&nid=4208293&fhn=1) from last November.

Even though he wasn't injured, Josh Beekman finished Thursday night's game on the sideline.

Beekman started against the 49ers and in the previous two games at left guard in place of Frank Omiyale, who started the first six games. But Omiyale was in the game for the final possession, which consisted of 11 pass plays.

"We just liked Frank's [Beekman's counterpart] ability to pass block," coach Lovie Smith said. "We were in a different mindset there at the end of the game when we had to pass the football. We like Frank a little bit more in that situation."

Beekman said he practiced with the starters on Monday but declined to speculate beyond that.

"Coach [has] the final say," Beekman said. "So we'll see what happens and just come out and improve and get better."

Beekman's blocking helped spring Matt Forte for a total of 68 yards on two screen plays, but he's had trouble dealing with bigger tackles.

"I watched the tape, and I just have to do a little better battling big guys," Beekman said. "Olin [Kreutz] showed me some techniques [Monday] of bull rushing and things like that, and I was just working on that and getting better. That's my job.

"I had pluses and minuses [Thursday], but the ultimate job is to go out there and have no minuses, be like the Pro Bowlers that I play next to. That's the goal."

Beekman plays between six-time Pro Bowler Kreutz and seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle Orlando Pace.

No thanks. I'm tired of these kind of guys...I want guys that have trouble dealing wtih the smaler tackles...I want someone who can take care of the bigger tackles.
