From Brock's agent. You may remember him from this hit http://youtu.be/hCkUzetbXx4 RT @andysimms: FA DE Raheem Brock visiting the #Texans Wed

http://www.stampedeblue.com/2010/8/10/1616894/raheem-brock-might-be-headed-to

There was an interesting Twitter exchange this evening between Robert Mathis and his one-time Colts teammate Raheem Brock. It went a little something like this:

Brock: Anyone know a nice place to eat in houston besides pappadeux? Lol some good seafood

Mathis: wtf....u in houston mane???

Brock: don't kno yet! We will see!

Perhaps I am reading too much into this. Perhaps I am tired after a VERY long day and I'm seeing things that simply aren't there.

Then again, the Texans will be without the cheating Brian Cushing for four games to start their 2010 season. Also, superstud Mario Williams is getting a second opinion on his "hip issue." Looks like the Texans are in need of some help along the d-line. Brock's just as good an option as someone like former Bills pass rusher Aaron Schobel. So, I guess after looking at all those variables, a Brock to Houston signing makes some sense.

We'll keep an eye out on this potential story if anything develops. Brock has not signed with another team since the Colts unexpectedly released him back in March.

I have to admit, it would just be weird to see Raheem Brock in a Texans uniform. Really, really weird.

Schobel wants to skip out on camp so he is going to wait to "decide" if he's going to retire or not until camp breaks. I wouldn't mind having a player like Brock here.

Veteran free agent defensive lineman Raheem Brock is scheduled to visit the Houston Texans today, according to his agent, Andy Simms.

Brock, 32, last played for the Indianapolis Colts.

He was cut in March.

The 6-foot-4, 274-pounder recorded 32 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks last season for Indianapolis.

For his career, he has registered 287 tackles, 28 1/2 sacks and 11 forced fumbles.

Brock was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh-round of the 2002 NFL draft out of Temple.

I also heard this on sports radio on my commute this morning.

He's supposedly going to have a workout after practice today and is already there, per McGobbler.

I'm kinda confused here. Would he be a DE or a DT for us? IMO, we've got about a half dozen players just like him. I don't think I'd like this signing unless there's something about one of our players we don't know about.

His middle name is Fukwan, so he's got that going for him.

Good player to have on your roster as he can play inside and outside the trenches (DT/DE). Having played for the "enemy" is also a good thing as he might have some secrets to tell us about Manning :heh:

I don't know about that. They cleared him to practice and play in the game this Saturday. I think if there was any concern about his health, they would have him sit. We've got 4 weeks until the real games start. They would use that time to let him heal if they thought it was warranted. JMHO.

Although I like Bulman,

Schobel and Brock would be a huge upgrade over Bulmam and Nading. IMHO

I cant see Bulman or Nading getting 10 + sacks like Schobel.

Agreed.

My rankings:

1. Schobel
2. Bulman
3. Brock
4. Naeding

Two out of the four, with my top 2 being Schobel and Bulman. I honestly don't know much about Brock. Schobel? He can work the trenches and get past people. He's pesky and clever

Yeah Bulman is 27 (will turn 28 during the season, Oct) and Brock is 32 (turned 32 in june)...

That's 4 yrs. and some change of a difference...So yeah, Bulman is younger

But if we are trying to make the play-offs and be a team in serious contention for super bowls, then guys like Bulman will eventually have to be faded out...I'd like to see what he does in pre-season, but from what I've seen Bulman has not really gotten any better since he's gotten here so it's not like he has a whole lot of upside at age 28...

Of course that's just my opinion...

Probably due to the fact that Schoebel was a starter and Brock played mostly behind Mathis and Freeney...

Also, Schoebel is probably just better..

But Brock has avg. about 3.5 sacks a yr over his career...

Who is White?

He was supposed to be the next big pass rusher and got a huge contract to leave Tampa for Detroit. He ended up doing jack squat as a full-time player, but may be a good situational pass rusher

I see Brock as an improvement over both Bulman and Naeding, but not in a particularly impactful way. At that point, dollars come into play, and if you can get Brock for a salary amount commensurate with the marginal improvement you'd experience in depth, you do it. If you can't bring him in - meh, oh well.

Schobel on the otherhand is a guy I see having an impact under any circumstances, and if Mario's dealing with injuries for much of the season, that impact gets magnified. He's the type of guy I thing you overpay for if that's what you've got to do. I Will be disappointed (to put it mildly) if we don't end up with Schobel - and adding Brock instead will do absolutely nothing to reduce that disappointment.

As to the possiblity of adding both of them - well, it's not exactly like either Naeding or Bulman are linchpins to the Texans future greatness.

I would not mind cutting Bulman and Naeding...

They are not building blocks, don't appear to have much upside, and could easily be replaced in next years draft/free agents/players that may be on this years practice squad..

I know Bulman has experience, but I don't even know if I'd keep him over Malcolm Sheppard...Bulman just has not improved much since he's been here so I don't think we'd have to cut any young guys with upside to bring both Brock and Schoebel in...JMO

I approve these moves.

Bulman and Nading haven't given us that much. They're nice guys and all but they've got to perform. If Bulman's shoulder is bothering him, that's just one more strike against him.

If Brock only lasts a year but gives us better production, great. We can look at improving the talent in the next draft.

If White and Clancy can come in and improve our depth and talent, great.

(And of course, we still need to grab Schobel as well.)

Yeah, I think they have a fascination with elderly Linebackers for some reason.

Remember how Moulds left here and went to the Titans, correct? I think that's what happened. Of course, we picked up Chris Brown. It's like a civil war.

I have this visual of Bud Adams as a cross between Al Davis and Goldmember from the Austin Powers movie. He's sitting in a 1970s-style condo office wearing a crushed-velvet robe and smoking cigars while eating waffles. And he stands up only for the occasional middle-finger salute.
