With the exception of his bonehead mistake against the Bills (in 2002), the guy was a solid player for us. I hope he latches on with a team this week.

I agree that Foreman was a solid player for us and I wish him the best. No need to be rude or disrespectful everytime a player leaves the Texans.

So how much of a salary cap hit do we get from releasing these two?

jacquescas
03-14-2005, 02:47 PM
foreman cost 2.21 million against the cap, and we take a 1.3 million hit, so we gain 890,000 under the cap for cutting foreman.

If I recall correctly, both are slightly in our favor vs the cap space this year.

I agree, Brown was a solid player for us our first two years...

Does this mean we'll be getting a new banner at the top of the forum?

Does this mean we'll be getting a new banner at the top of the forum?I've had Fiddy giving me some new looks along with a few others for a few months now. If anyone wants to design one I'm open to use it if I see something nice. Every image you see on this board was fan created. I really like this banner but I have been planning to make a change for a while now. As of right now I've looked a ton of stuff, but nothing that has moved me yet.

Maybe I'm a big sap, but I'm sad to see one of our main players go. It's good in the sense that we are upgrading, but I guess I am sentimental.

One thing I just don't understand at all, are some of the people on here who are acting so cruel . . This guy was on our team for three years, he may have not been the best, but be played hard for us, and always worked hard.

No need to act like monkeys and fling your poop at somone on the day he lost his job.

GOOD LUCK FOREMAN AND BROWN. . .THANKS FOR ALL THE HARD WORK

This is becoming a pattern among Texans fans and frankly it's pretty sad to watch. We send guys packing with all the class of a bunch of battery throwing Eagles fans. The change it attitude over the past three years is hard to miss. The mob has gone from happy to have a team again and being in love with just about anybody the Texans signed to telling guys who played hard here to not let the door hit them on the way out and wanting to replace players who got here what? a year ago? (Wade) or two years ago (Weigert).

I for one hope Foreman finds himself a spot and has a very good rest of his career. May he find himself someday on a team that gets a ring. I wasn't his biggest fan by a long shot but he held down the middle in the beginning. He was an original Texan, he deserves better than what I'm reading.

Why didn't we let Foreman go after June 1? Why didn't we at least try to get some value in a trade. Several teams are using the 3-4 this year, It's not like he's going to be out of football this year.......unless his injury has something to do with it.

We cut him now in order to allow him more time to catch on with someone and possibly to free up cap space to make a run at Pace...

The only two reasons I can think of for cutting him now as opposed to waiting for a trade or after June 1 are:

1. In fairness to the player so he can negotiate in the traditional FA period.
2. Cap Room for a move (presumably a move that couldn't be made without the extra room)

Actually we cut one (Foreman) and signed one (Greenwood). Sharper is on his way out and a top reserve (Peek) may become a starter. And, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Texans draft another on Day 1.

Eric Brown was one of the hardest hitting guys we had out there. I remember him knocking himself unconscious on one hit at Reliant. He just lost a step or two and so it goes....

Foreman was steady and dependable but not a major impact guy. He's slow afoot and it's obvious the Texans want more speed at the LB position. His 2 million was a bit much for what he delivered. DaShon Polk gives you everything that Foreman does - for a fraction of the cost.

The Pace part of the article is the biggest news item. If we can fit Pace in and maintain our sanity, we could be on the verge of being a major thorn in a lot of other teams side. The remaining question is what about McKinney and the center position. No question Pace is special, but it would seem we would have one more hole to fill to achieve what we want with the offensive line. I'm happy to hear that we are at least considering changing the O-line to protect David. I would assume this has to be a dream come true for David. Obviously this is not a done deal, but I will say the fact they are entertaining a bid on Pace is indeed very good news and I take my hat off to them. As you know, I'm adiment on the need to improve the O-line if we are going to go anywhere. Vinny, thanks for posting the article.

sharper is next. this will definitely improve our chances of getting pace.....but hopefully we dont overpay bc this yr was a bit of a slide for pace despite being a probowler again.

he knocked himself unconscious in an exhibition game vs denver in 2003. that was sweet.

-- Brown Could Return to Denver --
Tue Mar 15, 2005 --from FFMastermind.com

The Denver Rocky Mountain News reports the Houston Texans released former Broncos S Eric Brown yesterday (noted earlier). While the phone has not rung yet, Brown's representative, Gene Burrough, said the Broncos certainly are on the safety's wish list. "I'm certain he'd want to come back," Burrough said. "You know he left his heart in Denver - that's where he got his start." Brown was the Broncos' second- round pick in the 1998 draft. Brown, who turns 30 on Sunday - has made 87 career starts but started only four games last season with the Texans.

And I'm sure the Bronco's coaches were extremely impressed with your coverage play in last year's game.

Cuts after June 1st spread the remaining signing bonus over a two year period instead of all this year. The Texans would rather take the hit this year and be totally clear of those salaries next season. I think it's a good decision if it can be done that way.

From ProFootballWeekly.com:

n the wake of being snubbed by UFA WR Plaxico Burress, the Vikings today signed former Ravens UFA Travis Taylor as they try to compensate for the loss of the traded Randy Moss. The details of the contract weren’t immediately available. Meanwhile, Burress had confused the Vikings by turning down a six-year, $36 million deal, with $9 million coming in Year Two in the form of a guaranteed roster bonus, and also rejecting a one-year contract proposal. Burress since has fired agent Michael Harrison and is expected to meet with representatives from Philadelphia and Miami. ... The Vikings have set up a visit with former Texans ILB Jay Foreman.

Foreman and Brown both made big contributions to this team during its struggling first few seasons. It sucks to see them go because they both would have made great backups.. but we have to do whats best for the team.. and in this case, letting foreman go because of the size of his contract, and letting Brown go because, im assuming, we either had enough depth, or he didnt want a backup role.. was necessary.

I hold NO ill will towards either of these guys, and look forward to seeing them playing on other teams. Its not like they pulled a Posey on us and left at the stroke of midnight :P.

And the reason we let Foreman go instead of holding onto him is because we werent likely to get anything for him since he was coming off an injury and was not a "top tier" prospect. We were doing him a favor by letting him go so that he could negotiate a deal with another team, without that team being obligated to give anything to us. Basicly.. we were helping foreman get a job.

Im glad we did.. we still have a classy organization.. we did what we had to do but we didnt screw Foreman over to do it.

this is just a good move by the texans in general. here's why, 1. Eric Brown had a heavy salary and the Texans have glenn earl, ramon walker, as well as simmons who can play Strong safety. i already had him gone after this season. 2. as for foreman, his hefty salary was just too much to play back up. with the addition of greenwood, the lineup will be something like wong, sharper, greenwood, babin with peek coming off the bench and we'll probably see wong play more ILB. and what if they drafted D. Johnson, we'd have the best corp of LB's in the league. i think giving sharper the option to seek a trade was just for fun. "Sure, Jaime go on out and see what you can get" . " There isn't much to do in March anyway". says Casserly

I too was shocked at the hard feelings by some Texans fans, I would even say shocked. In this day and age enjoy the player while he plays for you...because truthfully unless he is a franchise QB, RB or WR within a few years his price will cause the team to cut them loose. I personally wish him the best and hope he finds a place to play and I hope his team does well every game EXCEPT when they play the Texans
