For those of you who have mentioned Seattle's possible interest in Jamie Sharper, here is something to ponder on an otherwise slow Texans news day...

Seattle willing to take less than a 1st for Alexander (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2009885)

I know that many of you are behind DD, and he is a better than average back... BUT...

I don't think anyone would maintain that he is better than Alexander.
At least I know I wouldn't.

I'd be willing to bet someone on here would argue that statement...

I'm not too sure that a Sharper for Alexander trade would work, based on salaries...Carr is in a contract year, and if he has the year I hope he has, he'll be due a raise...Add Alexander to that, and the back-loading of AJ's contract, and you have the Colts of the future, production-wise and cap-wise...

I would rather trade Sharper for picks, if anything, because, while there is risk involved, the player used with that pick would make a lot less than an established player...

I'm not very up to speed on the financial aspects, it just seemed interesting to me what with the talk of Seattle being (supposedly) interested in Sharper...

How about Sharper for Koren Robinson. He could fill the void left by Bradford.

this had been touched on in a previous post.
the consensus is that K-Rob has terrible hands and most people here don't think we should make such a trade.

Sharper for Jerramy Stevens is a trade I would be all for, but I seriously doubt the 'Hawks would make that move...

Carr is not in a contract year and when his deal gets redone it will be to lower the cap figure not raise it. NFL players get their "raises" up front in the form of signing bonuses for the most part.

Its my understanding that we are having a HARD time trading Sharper... since we are prob going to release him if we cant. So K Rob would be MUCH better than nothing.

IMO DD has been doing fine and his is still young and, baring any injuries, I think he could be one of the top rushers in the league. I just dont see the logic in trading for a RB when we have holes elsewhere ex:#2 wr, LT, YOUNG DL, and so on.

I agree that DD has been doing an good job, but there's always room for improvement...
and while the position is not nearly as in need as others, both teams just happen to have a player that they say is available for trade.
If it's a choice between losing Sharper outright to release (which despite poular opinion, I think will never happen), and improving another position that isn't really a need... I go with attempting a trade.
Having said that however, I know that there are contract issues and the cap that will dictate (and have already to a point) any trade scenarios...

This is tempting trade bait for sure. I donít know about some of you other folks are looking at but IMO we still have??? at the RB position and this or a similar feature back trade could be a very good deal for us to make. The contract numbers I bet would be comparable ESP... once you consider that if we do this trade or something similar [i.e. colts: Edgerrin James] - We should not have to sign any of our current roster RBís to a big money deal to retain them. Reduce the playtime of DD and Tony H to third down backs and drop Jwells.

IMO up to this point DD, Tony H and Jwells have not been the big answers we need at RB esp. when it comes to durability, break away speed and taking over a game. If I recall correctly we donít have one RB on our roster that has played an entire season without injury for more than few weeks. Injuries happen in this league more than most as itís a contact sport, but I think we need a RB who can go the long haul as it wont do us any good to have another season with DD going for 1200 yds on the back half of the season again once itís too late and were out of the playoff hunt. If he gets injured again and misses several games or god forbid we make the playoffs and he canít go for more than 10 games we would be a One and done playoff run.

Bottom line for me - Since we are a Run first offense team Ė Why are we not looking at getting one of the 2 available pro-bowl caliber RBís out there going for bargain prices and trade out some of MLB were wanting to move anyway? Too me this is a heck of a time to deal and IMO Charlie should hop in the driverís seat on one of these guys for sure. Esp. since right now the big 3 teams who need RBís [Tampa, Miami, Arizona] are all 3 looking at drafting a RB in the 1st rnd. IMO to me that puts both James and Alexander within our reach if we want them and I think itís a move we should make to solidify our run game for many years to come.

thanks U4ikrob, I was beginning to think that I was crazy... I know that RB is not a position of critical need right now, but it just seems too 'right' that we have an opportunity to make such an improvement at the position. I haven't heard any rumours that the Colts are interested in Sharper, but for god's sake, if they are going to make a trade, they have to get D in return...
