Prepare to be underwhelmed.

I have a feeling we're picking a WTH? guy.

People furiously google'ing our 2nd round pick and trying to figure out who he is and what he's done.

LOL.

Aw crap, Eisen is now on McCoy's nuts. LOL.

That seems to be the way most of our picks go

GP
04-23-2010, 07:25 PM
Crap. Now what is ESPN going to talk about? The areas of need for the team picking next? The player that just went?

You forgot about Colt McCoy!

Eisen is already all over Colt's jock. Immediately after the Clausen pick.

LOL. Rich, just. shut. up. already.

How silly is that guy?!?! "Is this maybe where Colt McCoy goes?" LOL.

I have the feeling you are correct...

Cody? That would a complete abandonment of all the Texans have believed in on the DLine over the past seasons.

Exactly, a lowering of expectations helps soothe the pain.

Mailman
04-23-2010, 07:26 PM
I think we're taking Gerhart or Burnett

TexCanada
04-23-2010, 07:26 PM
I wonder if we could trade back with some team that wanted McCoy and pick up a RB a few picks later

Thorn
04-23-2010, 07:26 PM
Prepare to be underwhelmed.

It's the 2nd round, and there are a couple of RBs left and only one pick in front of us. If the Texans don't take an RB, it certainly won't be the first time I guess (and hoped) wrong in the draft. LOL

Carr Bombed
04-23-2010, 07:26 PM
Rich Eisen is the guy who knows CRAP about football, but he has funny one-liners and is sort of like an older version of Ryan Seacrest.

But less gay.

GP

Ritz crackers should just stop. I am never eating your damn crackers.

I am not 68-years-old. We eat meat and in large quantities.

How is it a "epic failure of Jimmy Clausen". It's a "Epic failure of NFL GMS" Clausen is going to be a fine player in this league.
This is probably true, but I can't help but hate a guy for looking like/acting like a big ol douche.

rmartin65
04-23-2010, 07:27 PM
ESPN's coverage is so terrible. They are still showing KC on the clock.

LikeMike
04-23-2010, 07:27 PM
Damn Mays is gone... now Id definetly go with best HB available (which I think is Gerhart for our needs). O-Line like Asamoah would be alright for me, the best DTs are off the board right now. Perhaps Burnett...

Maddict5
04-23-2010, 07:27 PM
safety, o-line or DT and il more than likely be happy

JB
04-23-2010, 07:27 PM
I sure hope they learned from last year and get Gerhart or Tate

TexCanada
04-23-2010, 07:27 PM
But less gay.

Thats not saying a whole lot. Richard Simmons is less gay.

Blake
04-23-2010, 07:27 PM
Give me Burnett or Dwyer.

kiwitexansfan
04-23-2010, 07:27 PM
Perhaps we should draft McCoy, at least the talking heads would spend a few minutes talking about us.

Scratch that, who wants to hear what they have to say.

Kaiser Toro
04-23-2010, 07:28 PM
I would have no problem with Burnett, Asamoah or Brown

I'm watching on my PC, with NFL.com live on one screen and this on the other.

OzzO
04-23-2010, 07:28 PM
The movie critic... I mean, the general on 610 thinks it's gonna be Gerhart, even before Mays was selected.

Nawzer
04-23-2010, 07:28 PM
Well there goes Mays. I think the Texans had one guy in mind and they felt like he was going to be available at 51 and that's why they didn't move up. And if that's the case, it's probably someone a few of us have heard off. I'm feeling that it won't be a RB but an interior linesman.

GP
04-23-2010, 07:28 PM
But less gay.

Seacrest is gay?

LikeMike
04-23-2010, 07:39 PM

very nice trade. alot of these smallish moves down have only been netting teams 4th rounders. not a gerhart fan (im an arian foster guy) so not a bit bothered by who the vikes picked. we can take robert johnson now with that extra pick.

Blake

Jonathan Dwyer or Anthony Dixon. Maaaaybe Ben Tate.

Until they are taken JUST before us, similar to the Glen Coffee scenario last year.

Toby was not on Smithiak's radar, at least not enough to stay at the spot and take him. Which means Smithiak has lots of guys (targeted) they can take later in the 2nd.

If Gerhart turns out to be Alstott type player whom we need badly considering how many games we lost last year because we don't have anyone that could gain 1 or 2 yards, well this will be another one of those blunders.

Why are people so upset about this. Over and over again I've heard, on this board and other NFL boards, that this is one of the deepest draft in recent years. We get an extra THIRD just by going back 11 spot. That is a huge pick-up, and I'm confident Smitiak can pick good players in all three of our picks today.

I really like Toby... but there's 3 RBs imo (Tate, Dwyer, and Hardesty) that are similarly rated. I'd rather have that extra 3rd round pick. More picks = more chances to add talent.

The same people that are pissed about this trade down would've been cheering had the Texans traded down yesterday in a similar scenario.

Wow. Eisen completely dissed fans who say they don't like NFLN beating the commissioner to the punch on announcing the picks.

EXACT WORD-FOR-WORD QUOTE from Eisen:

"You know sometimes we get some criticism that we tell you about the pick before you hear it from the commissioner, we're only doing our jobs. And you're going to get it from somewhere if you don't get it from us..."

In short: NFLN follows the tweets and re-announces news that has already been tweeted.

Good point Joker.

Gerhart is not noticeably better than any of those guys.

Awesome trade! Way to go Smithiak. All the Toby lovers notwithstanding, there wasn't a "must have" player there. We can pick up Dwyer (my choice) or one of the other RB's in the 2nd, and address the other 3 clear needs we have with the two 3rd's and the one 4th.

tbh imo the draft would be 5 times more enjoyable if they didnt scoop the picks or show guys on the phone. let the commish announce the pick and react. thats all we want them to do. reactions are what make the draft great.

highlights of this years draft- the jags pick- nobody scooped the pick. pure WOW monent. ditto with the eagles taking graham (everyone expected thomas) & denver with tebow which was ruined slightly by showing tebow on the phone

But think about this: He is going to do BETTER by benefit of playing on the Vikings and all the ways they use their WRs and All-Universe running back.

On our team, I think he would possibly be a James Casey version 2.0 with all that potential and not really seeing as much opportunity as he will in Minny. He is going to be a Dallas Clark-type player in that Vikings offense.

Why are people so upset about this. Over and over again I've heard, on this board and other NFL boards, that this is one of the deepest draft in recent years. We get an extra THIRD just by going back 11 spot. That is a huge pick-up, and I'm confident Smitiak can pick good players in all three of our picks today.

because thay have a certain player they are stuck on that they think will take this team to the superbowl. then all you hear about is how new england never gets stuck on one player and thats why they rule the draft.

Hookem Horns

Look, you're a guy who knows what's up. Everything you just said, the talking heads just echoed. I am thinking YOU already observed how he eats up blockers, on your own without their help.

So when we trade down and don't have a chance to grab the guy, the trade down is hurting us. Extra pick for trading down? Yes. But there were two guys (Gerhart and Cody) who each, in their own way, could have beef'd up the team in their own way.
