Apparently McDaniels believes his Spread offense can overcome things like the loss of Brandon Marshall, Jay Cutler, and good quaterbacking

I wont doubt him thats for sure.

Now again, wouldn`t we`ve pulled the trigger on that trade offer as well? Having 2 2s, 2 3s, and 2 4s would`ve really helped us out this year, and in the second Im pretty sure we`d get McCourty or Robinson...

texasguy346
04-22-2010, 10:13 PM
I didn't think H-backs could wear single digit numbers.

They can't but clearly McDaniels and the Broncos must think Tebow is the second coming of Elway for them to give up that many picks for him.

didn't Denver just pick up Brady Quinn???
Orton, Quinn, Tebow?

I'm thinkin' this weird move trumps Crazy Al's weird move

This...Quinn must be trade bait, Orton has experience and Quinn is still young. If Orton is gone, Quinn would be the starter so what would they do with Tebow's development?

How come everyone behind us can trade down...

Damn the Ravens cleaned up on that trade from the Broncos. They got a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
The Texans couldn't have made that trade? Or used those picks? Jackson is that much better than anyone they could have picked in the 2nd round?

I guess he thinks Kyle Wilson is over rated as well, then based on his final mock.
I think Zierlein's mocks are based upon where he thinks the player will be drafted. Not what he thinks of the player.

Wow! It only takes one team to fall in love with a player and boy did the Broncos ever did. They gave up a boatload to get Tebow. I think Jesus made a personal phone call to McDaniels and Jesus gave Tebow a thumbs up.

It's comments like this that have earned you the #1 spot... Sorry Porkster :)

Wheeling and dealing does not always equate to a productive draft. Commenting on how a team works a draft at pick 27 is a bit of a knee jerk.

You call the team ahead of the team that wants the guy you want.

To be fair it is a desire to hear that narrative form in order to allay any anxiety over a concern that our guys are sleeping. I doubt the interviews have been completed.

Unfortunately that narrative is unlikely to be forthcoming given that the Texans have locked out the local media. I mean c'mon a national beat guy like Schefter calls it while McClain has been pumping a different guy for 10 days. We'll get some kind of bitter Justice column, a pablum McClain column how he called it on them wanting someone more physical than Wilson and then crickets on inside details.

OrdinaryAvgGuy
04-22-2010, 10:42 PM
Let me get this right:

You want the Rick Smith or Kubiak to come out in an official press conference and say "Well, we tried to get rid of the pick, but we couldn't. So we settled for Jackson at 20."

Now I understand that you trade down in this situation with the expectation that you can still get you guy earlier, but what that says is "we didn't think the guy we just drafted was good enough to take at 20."

So, no, I neither expect nor want anyone from the organization to step out and make that clear vote of no confidence.

That being said, I would have liked to see us trade back, too. Perhaps even position a pair of trades to move back in the 1st to take our CB and then turn around and move up in the 2nd to grab Taylor Mays (or a superior RB).

I think Zierlein's mocks are based upon where he thinks the player will be drafted. Not what he thinks of the player.

You know, the more I think about this, the more I disagree with LZ, conceptually speaking.
I mean, I agree that the talent level of supporting or surrounding players can have an effect on how a player plays, or appears to play, but I think any good scout should be able to evaluate a player strictly on how he moves, reacts, tackles, etc... especially a CB, who is on an island more often that not.
I'm just saying that a fair evaluation of the guy's play should be possible, exclusive of the effect other defenders.

The Lions are set to have a pretty potent offense if Stafford can be a quality NFL QB. He'll have Calvin Johnson and Burlson to throw to on the outside with Pettigrew (when he recovers from the ACL) and Scheffler at the TEs. Best as a change of pace back and Smith toting the rock.

Schwartz also has Suh to cause some problems on the defensive side of the ball.

They've been upgrading it the past couple of drafts. I'd expect them to continue to address it the next couple of days. They also traded for a guard, Rob Sims, recently as well.

Jerry Hughes is a good pick for the Colts.

As a TCU guy that watched him alot....he is a stud. He can fly around the corner and can tackle...not just a specialist.

Good job. And I will accept praise for posting that Patrick Robinson was a first round corner. A corner that the Texans should at least consider.

Nothing against Z. I like the guy. But I feel the same about all the McShays, Kippers, & Mayocks. I like what they do, I find their stuff interesting, sometimes entertaining.

But not only are they not the guys making actual picks, they aren't even on the staff of the guys making actual picks. They aren't, and never were GMs, head coaches, or scouts.

I put more thought in the mocks from the guys on this board than the MSM guys.

The more I think about it, the less I think we'll go for a DT in the second, unless he is an absolute steal.

Barwin was already getting more snaps at DE, we'll be moving Antonio inside more often, Amobi is going to start......

I'd love to land Houston.

I just don't see it happening.

What position do you think we will draft? I think, for us any other HB than Gerhart is a reach. Im not sure O-Line has much more value for us here than later in the draft. So that leaves FS and DT, and here I expect them to take best player availabe.

I don't always agree with alot of the guys out there but I think you are making their work into a little more of a lark. Some of these guys watch as much film as the scouts. That is how they make their living. Heck just local guys LZ and Jon Harris put out a draft guide that was as detailed as any I have seen. Harris watches film religiously. So overall I doubt our talk around here and the micks are close to what they cover.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/rounds

What he brings: Jackson may be the best pure cover corner in this year's draft. Jackson has tremendous feet, balance, anticipation and route-recognition skills when out on an island. He should be able to make a smooth transition to the NFL level coming out of a Nick Saban-coached defense. Video analysis: McShay | Edwards
How he fits: The loss of Dunta Robinson to Atlanta is a big blow and the Texans desperately needed a shutdown corner, so this pick is no surprise. Glover Quinn stepped up solidly as a rookie last season and Jacques Reeves will continue to play, but Jackson could very well provide the Texans with ability to take away half the field.

Great praise.

I've been watching NFLN for the past several years now and don't even think about flippin over to espn. I'm not very happy they added Irvin to the panel this year, but I think Eison's a great host and can add a little humor. I like Mooch a lot too, he's pretty funny and adds a coaches point of view. I think Mayock's one of, if not the best at what he does. Faulk and Irvin are just there.

Kiper and McShay are complete jokes at their evaluations and I think it's amazing they're still employed to do so.

What struck me was how bad the flow was with the analysts, and felt it emanated from the Directors. It was very herky-jerky. I would have expected that the seasoned ESPN crew would be at home together. I definitely felt that the NFLN crew was working as a team.

Hmm, sounds like Mathews didn't want to come to Houston anyways.

San Diego Chargers rookie RB Ryan Mathews was a big fan of former Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson while growing up and even wore No. 21 in high school and college to honor Tomlinson, reports Kevin Acee, of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Now, Mathews has the task of filling Tomlinson's shoes in the Chargers' offense. "It's hard. You can't fill shoes like that. ... There is a lot of pressure, especially after LT ... I have to go in with my own mindset and play ball. I think I play good under pressure," Mathews said. The Chargers gave up a lot to get him, but head coach Norv Turner said everyone will understand why when they see him play. "There was some talk about Houston (selecting him), and it started to scare me," Mathews said. "I'm lucky and blessed (the Chargers) traded up, and I'm super excited." General manager A.J. Smith said he feels Mathews is a "championship-level back" and the team wasn't going to sit around hoping he would fall to them.
