As if we needed any more proof that Dunta Robinson just wasn't worth that much....

Compensation for Dunta would come in 2011, not this year.

Yo... we get comp picks next year for DRob. They are for the previous free agency.

I hope they get rid of compensatory picks in the next CBA. If you can't hold on to your own players, then you don't deserve squat for losing them. This is football; it's tough on the field and off the field.

oh....so this would be based on who we signed last year? that's kind of strange...

The NFL bases compensatory picks on a secret formula that needs some time to run. With the free agency period running until a week or two before the draft, there really isn't much time to get the computations done for the upcoming draft and the last-minute variances could throw off teams' draft strategies.

As for HOU-TEX's lament about St. Louis and Detroit getting picks, by rule the top 2 teams in the draft get the last two picks regardless of what happens in free agency.

I didn't know that. Thanks, man

I knew the Texans weren't going to get anything, so I thought it was strange that they were getting a pick. Now I know.

Who the hell did the bengals lose to get 3rd and 4th round comp picks?

A super secret formula that gives New England 8 extra picks a year...

I think there were at least 3 decent players lost, one being TJ Whosyourmamma.

I can't figure it out for Cincy or Atlanta. If anyone else wants to spot the diamond in the rough for those teams, here's the best list I could find:

Library of NFL free agents by team and year (http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/features/freeagents/fa.php?option=By+Team&y=2009)

EDIT:
Cincy lost TJ Houshmanzadah for the 3rd round pick. Their 4th could have come from QB Ryan Fitzpatrick going to the Bills, or OG Stacy Andrews going to the Eagles.

EDIT #2:
The Falcons 3rd had to come from losing Domonique Foxworth to the Ravens.

And the Titans 3rd came from Fat Albert of course.

I posted this in an earlier thread, but the best analysis (though not always dead on, it's easily the best I've seen) is from this guy AdamJT. His predictions for this year were HERE (http://adamjt13.blogspot.com/2010/03/projecting-2010-compensatory-nfl-draft.html). From his predictions, Cinci's fourth was for Andrews.

I'm glad I wasn't the first to mention that but I really doubt I'll be the last....

Actually, they limit it to 4 per team, per a year. Although, it is odd that the Patriots got 4 7th round picks.

It's whatever. It just lets them move around the draft more, cause the extra picks. You can't trade compensitory, but if you get a 4th, you can trade your 4th if you feel you need to move up. Makes good teams stay good.
