Sorry if there is a thread already somewhere.

The Atlanta Falcons won the coin toss and will pick 19th in the 1st round. The Texans will pick 20th.

Also, there is finally some clarity on the Travis Johnson pick compensation:

Texans pick 20th behind Steelers 18 and Falcons 19. Then they rotate each round.

Texans in each round: 1) 20. 2) 19. 3) 18. 4) 20. 5) 19. 6) 18, 7) 20. They also have San Diego's sixth-round pick.

damn, that blows. Falcons are looking for defensive backs, so that 1 pick could make a difference

Once again Kubiak has failed. If he would have managed his chances correctly and knew to pick tails, cause it never fails, Texans would have got to pick 19th. Typical....

He probably couldn't watch the coin flip and had to turn away and bury his head in his plastic sheet that had 1) Heads and 2) Tails on it. That or he had the coin flipper attempt to throw it to another coin flipper. :)

What number is that pick? Not that it matters a great deal. Just want to have my numbers in a row so that I can be prepared on draft day.

I know what you mean but let's talk more about this. Expand on how it makes a difference before this thread gets out of hand.

Sweet! Now we can say we picked in the twenties, rather than the lowly teens. lol.

There will be plenty of good players available at #19 and #20 so I am not worried. Between Earl Thomas, Dan Williams, Patrick Robinson, Kyle Wilson, Mike Iupati, someone who can help us win will be available.

If one of the other CB's starts shooting up the draft board and cements a round 1 grade, there's a chance that the Falcons could take him at 19 and leave us to consider other options. That one player is likely Kyle Wilson.

I don't think it's as big of a concern as others. There are a number of factors that could marginalize this small concern.

1. The Falcons also have other needs to address, namely LB.

2. There's not yet a CB expected/projected to go where we're picking, so something would have to change in that regard to make this worrisome.

3. We're assuming that Smith & Co. are targeting a CB with their first round pick. That could very well be wrong.

4. FA could change a need for either us or the Falcons (the Falcons are one of the favorites to sign Dunta).

5. Trades, both player-for-player and within the draft, could change (a) needs for either team and (b)how the draft unfolds and where players are picked.

So, the chance that Kyle Wilson (or McCoutry, or whoever) ascends the draft board to solidy a justifiable pick at 19/20 and is taken by the Falcons right ahead of us is not likely.

Kyle Wilson may end up going to the Falcons because of this, so that might make the Texans trade back a few spots for an extra 4/5th round pick. They might be able to still get Earl Thomas in the mid twenties.

We swapped picks with the Falcons in 2007. The Texans gave them our 8th pick and we got their 10th. They selected Jamaal Anderson and we took Amobi Okoye. Officially passing on Patrick Willis and Darrelle Revis. Looks like Atlanta and Houston blew the first round of that draft.

Back in 2004 the Falcons drafted a CB right ahead of the Texans (8th for
Falcons, 10th for Texans), and no matter what you might think of Dunta Robinson at this point, I think he's turned out a wiser/better pick than DeAngelo Hall ?
So, don't have to draft early to draft smart.

Yeah, but if you're looking to trade back in the 1st, the extra spot does add value to it. It's all good though, I trust Rick Smith and his scout crew will make the right decisions. :texflag:

Why do we have to switch with the Falcons and Steelers during th draft? Why can't we just keep the #19th position throughout?

This is clearly punishment from God for:

McNair not firing Kubiak

Not franchising Dunta

Elective surgery on Kubiak's part in which he is taking the life of an innocent unborn sleep apnea

(And it also probably means our 20th pick will have some sort of birth defect)

No kidding. If I'm not mistaken, Adrian Peterson ended up going #9 in the middle of that right?

February 26
# (9:00 AM): Jags, Titans, Falcons win draft flips ... While the rest of the world was asleep the NFL conducted the coin flips to decide the three tied spots in the selection-order for the 2010 draft. As a result, Jacksonville will pick 10th in the opening round, with Denver choosing 11th with a pick acqured from Chicgao. Meanwhile, Tennessee will select 16th and San Francisco 17th with a pick from Carolina, while Atlanta won its flip with Houston and will pick 19th, with the Texans to select 20th. And with the coin flips in the books, here is the updated selection order for the first three rounds of the 2010 draft, as well as the breakdown of picks by team as we have it to date.

Touche'. However, every time I hear that song it reminds me of a very fun night I had when I was a Frosh in HS. I created a concoction of about 3-4 of my Dad's hard liquor and began the night. The night + Concoction + Pool party + a Chick = Ee er, ee er....Ah

I guess that stupid song was playing by the pool all night because that's the first thing I think of when I hear it.

I'm curious - did the Falcons choose the 19th pick because they "won" the toss? Or did they automatically get the pick because of it? I know it's silly and esoteric, but imagine if this happened for the #1 pick overall. Maybe the team that wins the toss doesn't want to pay #1 money.

Just a random, irrelevant thought.

Actually, there was no heads and no tails and no one called it.

There was a special coin with the Falcon logo on one side and the Texans's logo on the other. They tossed it in the air and the Falcon logo ended up on top.

I know you're just joking but... there you go.

I don't know that this has been reported here yet:

The Texans learned their draft position of the first round when they lost a coin clip to the Atlanta Falcons at the NFL scouting combine Friday morning to determine the draft order. Houston will have the 20th selection in the first round, five spots behind last year's position.
Last April, the Texans selected linebacker Brian Cushing out of USC with the 15th overall pick in the first round and he went on to win The Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

As for the subsequent rounds of this year's draft, the Texans, Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers, who all finished with 9-7 records in 2009, will alternate the 18th, 19th and 20th selection throughout the rest of the draft.

The Texans have eight picks overall. The additional pick is in the sixth round, acquired from San Diego in the trade of DT Travis Johnson.
