Continuing our draft watch series, let's take a look at senior cornerback Patrick Robinson from Florida State.

The Texans primary needs entering the 2010 draft are at running back, free safety, interior offensive lineman, defensive tackle and cornerback assuming Dunta Robinson leaves in free agency.

Robinson played on one of the worst defenses in college football in 2009 so scouts will have to figure out what effect, if any, that had on Robinson's performance in 2009.

Robinson didn't record an interception in '09. He had one pick in 2008 and seven in 2007.

Robinson was one of several Seminoles players named in an academic cheating scandal in late 2007. He was suspended for four games as a result.

Despite some concerns, Robinson remains a top prospect according to the NFL draft pundits.

"I think Robinson is a first round talent," said Mike Mayock in an article by DC Reeves of Florida Today. "But I have some concerns about how consistent he plays. His technique is not always consistent. He takes some plays off. I want to see what his real speed is. And people beat him off the line of scrimmage when he got lazy with his hands. He has the ability, but he didn't always demonstrate it on a game-by-game and snap-by-snap basis."

Chad Reuter has the Texans taking Robinson in the first round in his latest mock. I'm kinda thinking not, but we'll have to see what the combine brings - and whether 23 leaves in free agency.

When you read the scouting reports on Robinson, two themes emerge. On the positive side is his speed and natural athleticism. On the negative side is inconsistent play and lack of physicality, especially against the run.
